Personal records of George Zarb, Professor Emeritus of and former head of Prosthodontics in the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto, who introduced dental implantology to North America and who is recognized internationally for his contributions to his field. The records include personal and professional correspondence; files on many of the numerous honours bestowed on him; administrative files; teaching files, course material and lecture notes with accompanying slides, along with slide presentations from student projects and theses; files of correspondence and related material pertaining to professional activities, including selected conferences and editorial work; and drafts of chapters of books, articles, and addresses, with accompanying photographs and slides, and some born-digital material.

Frederick William Baker fonds

This fonds consists of one accession documenting Dr. Fred Baker’s association with the University of Toronto mainly during his period as Director of the Sioux Lookout Program (SLP). The accession is arranged into seven series. Series 1 summarizes his career in curriculum vitae, and his appointment to the University and the Sioux Lookout Program. Series 2 to Series 4 contain Dr. Baker’s personal files relating to his role as director of SLP and includes some lectures and workshop files, as well as correspondence relating to native health care. Series 5 documents primarily his committee activities with the Canadian Paediatric Society and the Council of Faculties of Medicine of Ontario. Series 6 contains Dr. Baker’s copies of two reports relating to native health.

Series 7 contains computer files of both personal files and official administrative files.

A2016-0007: Contains records from the Centre for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies (CERES) and its predecessor the Centre for Russian and East European Studies (CREES). Records include exchange program files for studies engaged in the Canada-USSR exchange, various CREES committee meeting minutes and agenda, Centre newsletters, promotional material, director's correspondence, graduate student information, faculty lists, visiting fellow lists, annual budgets and reports, and event files for many workshops, colloquium and seminars that were organized by the school. Also includes records of the Stalin-Era Research and Archives Project (SERAP), a SSHRC funded project seeking to stimulate the reinterpretation of politics and society in the USSR under Stalin through the use of newly declassified archival materials.

A2016-0020: This accession contains records from the Centre for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies (CERES). The records include executive council minutes, event files, activity reports, Centre reviews, some fundraising files, and a small number of HR files. All material in the box 1 comes from the office of the former director Robert Johnson.

J. Fraser Mustard fonds

Fonds consists of the records of Dr. Fraser Mustard, documenting his long and varied career in health, medicine and education, and his work building interdisciplinary, cross-university institutions for research and advocacy. The contents of the fonds primarily document the last 20-30 years of Dr. Mustard’s career, although there is some coverage of his early research and teaching career in medicine. The fonds provides a significant record of the work of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIAR) and Founders’ Network, as well as the Early Years Report, Council for Early Childhood Development (CECD), Aga Khan University and Dr. Mustard’s work in Australia.

Records include correspondence, day planners and itineraries, travel files, meeting notes, presentation slides, news clippings, reports, minutes, outreach material, photographs and other records documenting Dr. Mustard’s speeches, awards and honours, writing, travel, and support for various government initiatives, businesses, academic institutions and community organizations. Evident throughout is Dr. Mustard’s innovative approach to pedagogy and organizational structures, his persistent advocacy, and his insistence that governments and communities adopt strategies to early childhood education that are grounded in sound research.

The fonds also documents some aspects of Dr. Mustard’s personal life, including some family correspondence and records relating to personal events, such as his 75th birthday, the publication of his biography, and his death.

Till, consisting primarily of correspondence, honours and awards, teaching materials, research and administrative files, manuscripts and addresses (including slides), interviews, and photographs, documenting Dr. Till's career as a professor of medical biophysics at the University of Toronto and as a cancer specialist. Includes files on the Centre (later Joint Centre) for Bioethics and the Department of Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto, the Canadian Cancer Society and the Ontario Cancer Institute /Princess Margaret Hospital.

Correspondence

This series begins with a single biographical file, followed by correspondence. Much of Professor Fuss’ professional correspondence prior to 1990 has not survived. The paper files in this series are arranged by general correspondence (including by author), followed by references, and then by comments of papers. Much of the post-1990 correspondence is in electronic format, in ‘folders’. These electronic folders are listed at the end.

Folders that are empty or have nothing of archival value in them are not included.

Conferences

This series beings with paper files for workshops at the Brookings Institution (1997 and 1998) and a conference, ‘Hedonistic regressions’, held on 11 November 2002 at the Department of Finance in Ottawa, and a file on the National Bureau of Economic Research (USA) workshops and conferences (2003-2005).

Research

This series consists of grant applications and related research files for projects, the results of which were all published. They do not comprise the whole of Professor Fuss’ research projects, published or not. The paper files contain the applications, covering correspondence, and reports. The arrangement is chronologically by project.

Professor Fuss’ compact disc #3, titled ‘Research’, contains a large number of files on research projects, arranged by folder, sub-folders and files. Where the results were published, files that could be were printed out and filed in Series 8: Manuscripts and publications. Some files were also printed out and placed in Series 1: Correspondence. Only files that could not be printed, or where formatting made tables and mathematical formulae incomprehensible, or the files were extremely long, are listed.

Four digital files of typed extracts from the personal diary Professor Latta began keeping in Dec. 1965, relating to the Department of German at Trinity College, the Combined Departments of German, and, as of July 1, 1975, the university German Department. No. 1 contains entries dating from November 1966 to December 1988; No. 2 runs from January 1989 to December 1995; No. 3 covers from January 1996 through December 1998; and No. 4 is January 1999 to December 2005.

Ernest Mastromatteo fonds

This fonds contains records related to the professional activities and personal life of Dr. Ernest Mastromatteo, occupational physician. The bulk of the material in this fonds documents his roles as a medical practitioner, researcher, and occupational health director. The series documenting the activities of the Nickel Producers’ Environmental Research Association, an association Dr. Mastromatteo was heavily involved in during the 1980s, is the largest, with smaller series documenting his career at Inco, his work with the American Conference of Governmental and Industrial Hygienists, and his many projects, case studies, organizations, associations and societies, as well as legal cases he provided testimony in. There is also a relatively large amount of material documenting his research in the form of addresses, and additional material chronicling his time as a student at both the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine and the School of Hygiene.

Records include correspondence, notebooks, publications, drafts, prints, reports, meeting minutes and memoranda.

Mastromatteo, Ernest

David Rayside fonds

Records in this fonds document most aspects of Prof. Rayside’s career as an administrator, activist and academic. Series 1 (Biographical) and 2 (Correspondence) give a good overview of his career and the professional correspondence in Series 2 relate to or complete most other series in the fonds. Correspondence can also be found in all other series.

His role as an adept administrator is documented not only in Series 3 (University of Toronto Administration) but also in the records found in Series 4 (Advocacy) and Series 5 (Professional Associations) where his leadership and involvement on committees is evident. Prof. Rayside’s academic interests coincided with his political activism and this is well documented in Series 4 (Advocacy) seen in reference to records in Series 7 (Books) and Series 8 (Articles, Papers and Talks) that extensively document his research and writing. Finally his roles as a teacher and mentor are well documented in Series 6 (Letters of Recommendations and Evaluations) and in Series 9 (Teaching).

These files were created by FMLE coordinators to assist in the running of the FMLE Integrated Clinical Encounter (ICE) component.

Consists of various administrative files including; policy statements and forms, human resources contracts, student files, budget information, student and faculty inquiries, yearly reviews and reports, program events, grant applications and general correspondence. The accession also consists of a large number of invoices and contracts. Many of the files appear to be from the desk of Derrick de Kerckhove, Director of the McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology from 1983 until 2008.
