B1980-0032: Certificate presented to Arthur D'Orr LePan, Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds, University of Toronto, at a dinner held in his honour in the Great Hall of Hart House on 2 February 1931, with signatures of the attendees and a copy of the menu, all mounted in a mahogany case. The certificate was designed by J. E. H. Macdonald and measures 53 cm x 35 cm. The dimensions of the case are 70 cm. x 49 cm.

Approximately 3500 to 4000, 3.25 x 4.25 inch glass plate negatives and roll film negatives taken by K.B. Jackson, Chairman of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science from 1942 to 1963. Subjects include: the W.W.I. military from Canada (Petawawa) and Europe; France, Germany, England and Scotland (1923); and Jackson family photos. Many of the photographs concern the University of Toronto: exteriors and interiors of professors’ houses (1920-1939); portraits of university professors (1920-1939); Hart House theatricals and Camera Club; and the first snowmobile prototype. There are also photographic land survey experiments, photographic aerial survey experiments, and physics lab experiments.

This surgical fellowship was established in 1954 by surgeons who were residents under the tenure of Robert Meredith Janes, Chairman of the Department of Surgery from 1947-1957. B2001-0009: Three binders of biographies of members of the Janes Surgical Society. Each card includes photographs of the member and his (her) spouse, personal information and a list of professional appointments and accomplishments. Cards are arranged alphabetically within each binder. A copy of "The Janes Surgical Society. An Illustrated History", by Alan Carrie, Stephen E. O'Brien and Charles R. B2013-0028: Portraits of William J. Houston, student in the Faculty of Education in 1913 and later a graduate of Arts (B.A. 1924) in World War I uniform. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the 170th Canadian Infantry Battalion and subsequently in active service in France in 1918.

Included in this accession are the personal bound letter books belonging to educator, journalist and graduate of the University of Toronto William Houston. The two bound volumes date from Dec. 31 1883 to June 13 1891 and from July 6 1891 to Nov. 8 1895. The correspondence covers the period that Houston was a member of the University of Toronto Senate and Legislative Librarian. Also included are notes on Houston family history compiled by Mrs. Eila Hopper-Ross, grand niece of William Houston (ca. 1980s - 2000).

Fonds also includes 2 photographs: a portrait of William Houston ca. 1923 and a photograph of John Houston standing in front of the family home in Waterdorwn, 1937.

Also includes one piece of correspondence from John Houston to "cousin" Theresa McAfee (1935).

B2009-0013: This accession consists of correspondence and subject files on individuals who were colleagues of Prof. Hayne during his 40 years in the Department of French at the University of Toronto. It complements other accessions within this fonds (see list below) since many of the letters relate to the discipline of French language and literature in particular and University College and the University of Toronto in general. Correspondents include, among others, F.A.C. Jeanneret, his former teacher as an undergraduate and other colleagues at University College in the Department of French such as, Paul Perron (Chair, Department of French), C.D. Rouillard, Douglas V. le Pan, among others, and Victoria College such as Northrup Frye and David Smith. (1 box 1956-2008).

Also includes Practice Sheet dated April 1905, 3 lettering charts and "Bill of Materials for Marine Boiler, Jan. 1906. All drawings are pen and ink with some watercolour. Size: 56 cm X 38 cm. B2003-0015: Three photographs originally belonging to engineering graduate Chester B. Hamilton Jr. documenting engineering students at the University of Toronto. Hamilton received a Diploma in 1906, a B.A.Sc in 1908 and an M.E. in 1920. Included are group portraits of students in the mechanical and drafting rooms (1906) as well as a composite portrait of the Mechanical Club 1937-38 of which Hamilton was Honorary Chairman.

Jabez Henry Elliott fonds

Two scrapbooks compiled by Jabez Henry Elliott, professor of the History of Medicine, documenting his attendance at the 10 and 11th International Congresses on the History of Medicine that were held in Madrid and Toledo, Spain in 1935 and in Yugoslavia in 1938, respectively. Elliott was sent as the representative for the University of Toronto. The first scrapbook contains programmes, a running typed report on the conference, press coverage, annotated photographs, conference pamphlets and brochures (including one on the history of medicine). The second scrapbook includes his report to President Cody on the conference . It also contains tourist brochures and maps of the period, postcards and original photographs of sites throughout Yugoslavia including Belgrade, Zagreb, Sarajevo, Mostar and Dubrovnik. Also includes memorabilia such as invitations and programmes attended by Elliott during his stay.

This fonds consists of Byer’s work as a Professor at the University of Toronto, and his government and private-sector work for various committees and councils. The fonds includes a large collection of lecture notes, syllabi, and class materials used by Byer to deliver instruction for various engineering courses. The collection also includes Byer’s research notes for numerous committee and council projects for the University of Toronto and for various public and private-sector organizations. Many of Byer’s publication notes, talks, and conference presentations are also included in this fonds. The Philip H. B1994-0001: Papers of Charles Kent Duff, student of engineering from 1914 to 1918 and research assistant in Electrical Engineering in the 1920s and 1930s under H.W. Price. Includes correspondence as a student, a lecture given to a class of Harold Innis', who, during their student days, was a roommate of Duff's. Also includes graduation diploma and 1 graduation photograph, along with his C.V. from the 1950s. (3 boxes, 1914-1955)

B1999-0020: Includes: Diary and related photo album covering a large part of Duff's work in China as a teacher at a mission (1921-1924, 1926) - photo album also contains photos after 1926 when he left China, documenting travels throughout England and Ontario. A second photo photo album covers his student days at the University of Toronto 1914-1918, while he was at the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering. Also includes biographical items detailing his work with H.W. Price in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering and with the Hydro-electric Commission of Ontario including photographs of an automatic regulator designed by Price and Duff.
