The collection of more than 3000 items contains all the books hand-printed by Leonard and Virginia Woolf at the Hogarth Press in London (1917–1932). (The hand-printed works include many variant issues and bindings). It is also a nearly comprehensive collection of Hogarth Press machine printed books to 1946 (the year Leonard Woolf and the Press joined Chatto &Windus) and contains many rarities and all the significant texts. Included are many variant bindings, first editions, subsequent isues and editions, presentation copies, proofs copies, limited editions and signed limited editions. A substantial number of ephemeral publications, press catalogues, announcements and notices enhance the research utility of the collection. Most of the records in this fonds document Harris' research in the history of Higher Education, a subject on which he published widely and gave numerous addresses. Some limited documentation provides researchers with some information on his contributions to several administrative posts. There are also early lecture files on English literature which document his early teaching career and some files relating to the researching and writing of the university history although most of those records are in the records of the University Historian. Finally there are original university records collected by Harris regarding the University of Toronto Faculty Association and its predecessors.

This fonds is a very complete documentation of all aspects of Prof. Stoicheff career. His relationship with colleagues at the University, nationally and internationally is evident throughout but especially in the Series 1 Correspondence, Series 8 Professional Association and Activities, and Series 9 University of Toronto. Series 1 Correspondence also documents his mentoring role and his role as a referee and evaluator of peer and student work. This is also documented in Series 11 Teaching, Series 12 Correspondence with Students and Series 8 Professional Associations and Activities. His research activities are extensively documented not only in Series 6 Research but in Series 10 Ontario Laser and Lightwave Research Centre and in Series 3 Publications. B1966-0005: Correspondence, notebooks, and illuminated addresses presented to Prof. Macallum in 1906 by undergraduates in the Faculty of medicine on the occasion of his election to the Royal Society of Canada documenting his contributions to the study of biochemistry. Includes correspondence with William Osler and Ramsay Wright. Photoprints include several images of Professor Macallum and one of Taddle Creek and McCaul's Pond, c. 1879. (Described in all 4 series)

B1969-0001: Updated documentary scrapbook on Dr. A.B. MacAllum, professor of biochemistry prepared by Dr. A. D. MacAllum. Consists of copies of articles, biographies, writings, photoprints relating to the life of Prof. A.B. MacAllum pasted into a scrapbook. (described in Series 2)

B2003-0022: Correspondence to A.B. Macallum who was professor of Physiology starting in 1901 and later professor of Biochemistry from 1908-1917. Some of the correspondence relates to his role in helping to organize the Meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science at the University of Toronto in 1897. (described in Series 1)

James Carscallen fonds

Fonds consists of a scrapbook which contains newspaper clippings, congratulatory messages and letters, photographs and postcards related to his Rhodes Scholarship and his time at Oxford. James Carscallen's thesis from Oxford is also included along with manuscripts and notes for other works.

Fonds also contains a collection of playbills and concert bills for various performances in Toronto and overseas, as well as notices for Victoria College events including performances of the Ichthyology Ensemble, for which James Carscallen played the piano, as well as the Victoria's Winter Musical Interlude.

James Carscallen was a member of the Graduate English Renaissance Group, and the fonds contains notices for several of this group's events. There is a also a file related to an event held at Victoria College called An Evening of Romanticism in Literature, Music and Art, which contains a thank you note from Northrop Frye. Fonds also contains 2 photographs from James Carscallen's retirement from Victoria College in 1996.

Milton Israel fonds

Records document Milton Israel’s graduate studies at University of Michigan, and his publishing, teaching and research activities as Professor of South Asian Studies in the Department of History at the University of Toronto. The records relating to his graduate studies consist of research notes and some footnote drafts for his doctoral thesis “The Anglo-Indian in defense of authority, 1905-1910”.

A significant portion of the B2002-0009 accession documents his research and teaching activities relating to South Asian settlement and migration during the 1990s and includes course materials for HIST 394, a course he developed on this topic. In addition there is correspondence and reports relating to the Sikh Studies program in the Department for the Study of Religion developed at the time he was Director for the Centre for South Asian Studies.

The B2011-0004 accession contributes significantly to his research and teaching activities, including course materials and lecture notes for HIS 101, HUM 101, HIS 232, HIS 282, HIS 364 and HIS 394, relating to British colonialism, the history of India and particularly modern India, and South Asian civilization and migration. Also included are several popular lectures and seminars that Professor Israel gave over the course of his career.

Records documenting his publication activities in Series 4 focus on primarily three projects: his book In the future soil: a social history of the Indo-Canadians in Ontario (1994), his work on Encyclopedia of Canada’s Peoples (1999) while he was Chair of the Multicultural History Society of Ontario and “Safe Haven. The refugee experience of five families”, a book and exhibition produced in cooperation with the Royal Ontario Museum. Accession B2011-0004 also includes notes and correspondence regarding several published reviews and articles by Professor Israel, as well as reviews of these key publications.

An earlier accession (B1995-0052) is represented in Series 6, and includes correspondence, research material, notes and card files relating to, with drafts of, Milton Israel's book, "Communications and Power: propaganda and the press in the Indian Nationalist Struggle, 1920-1947" (1994).

B2002-0003: Records in this accession document various aspects of Prof. Gotlieb’s career as a leading computer scientist. Most notably early correspondence, association files, publication files and research files document Gotlieb’s early work and contributions. These along with records relating to his role as a teacher shed light on the early development of computer technology in Canada, the emergence of computer scientists as a profession and their subject expertise as a discipline of academic study. This accession also contains records relating to Gotlieb’s wider social advocacy demonstrated in his involvement in Science for Peace and several Jewish groups. Finally, this accession has several photographs of early computer installations at the University depicting technology that was unique to the world at that time. Included are images of the experimental computer UTEC as well at the FERUT (Ferranti Electronic computer) - the first electronic computer to be purchased anywhere (1952). (23 boxes, 1942-2001)

Clippings, diplomas, awards and photographs document 1939 B.A.Sc graduate Mackenzie McMurray. McMurray, who also graduated with an Masters in Commerce in 1954 became president of Dominion Bridge Company. Included in this accession are thirteen photographs taken by McMurray while a part of the Hart House Camera Club in the late 1930s. These photographs, some of which won awards, were exhibited as part of the Annual Camera Club Exhibition at Hart House 1935 - 1940. There is also a graduating composite for the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, 1939.

Nelles, 1875-1879 and finally, a record of theological students and their marks, 1875-1877.
