Great Eastern July 13, 1866 – Sept. 8, 1866 Telegraphs Telegraph Collection a narrative of the laying of the cable. Minor incidents are recorded here such as on July 17 “warning bell touched by accident” and the following day “cables are entangled in tank”. The cables become much more detailed toward the end of July and the second part of this signal journal describes the successful attempt to refind the 1865 cable repair it and complete its connection with Newfoundland.]

Most are printed in Scotland; imprints include Glasgow, Paisley, Edinburgh, Stirling, Falkirk, Aberdeen, Ayr and Kilmarnock, as well as London, Sheffield, Newcastle, Manchester, York and Coventry. Most are anonymous but some titles attributed to authors such as Hannah More, Daniel Defoe, Robert Burns, John Bunyan, James Hogg and Allan Ramsay. Many of the titles are illustrated wtih woodcuts.
