National Japanese Canadian Citizens’ Association

Primarily textual material created by the National Japanese Canadian Citizens’ Association (later the National Association of Japanese Canadians) and collected by Kanbara as he participated in the organization. Meeting minutes, agendas, notes, and correspondence between Kanbara and others from the organization are included, almost all with marginalia by Kanbara. Records date from around the Japanese Canadian centennial and then later in the early 1990s.

Bryce Kanbara accession

The collection consists of material collected by Kanbara during his time as an active member of the Japanese Canadian Citizens’ Association (later the National Association of Japanese Canadians) and the various off-shoot organizations. Many of the records are from the period of the Japanese Canadian Centennial, and continue from the many organizations it inspired. Records relating to Japanese Canadian Redress are also included, including material from Sodan Kai. Later records from the NAJC’s art events where Kanbara played a significant role are present, like the AI symposium.

The Mike

This series consists of volumes of The Mike, the official student newspaper of the University of St. Michael’s College. The newspaper has been in operation since 1948 and has been published on a predominantly bi-weekly basis.

Yearbooks

This series consists of the various configurations of yearbooks published by the students of St. Michael’s College. Titles include: The Year Book of St. Michael’s College (1910-1931; 1934-1935), The Thurible (1932-1933; 1937-1948; 1950), Through St. Michael's with the Camera (1940-1942; 1946-1948), Keystone (1968), Windrose (1969-1970; 1980; 1982-1985; 1987-1995, 2022, 2023), The Sword (1995-1999).

This fonds consists of publications created by the students of St. Michael's College. This includes yearbooks (for St. Michael's College, the University of St. Michael's College, and some of the books from St. Michael's College School), the Mike (student newspaper), and literary collections featuring students and faculty of USMC.

Publications

Series consists of various publications about Father Donovan, the Donovan Art Collection, and artists included in the collection. Publications include articles, reviews, exhibition catalogues, promotional materials, and full-length issues of magazines and newspapers. The series additionally includes two published catalogue books of the Donovan Art Collection, along with a DVD of the OMNI Television show about the collection.

Although the series contains mostly original copies of different publications, the series also demonstrates Father Donovan's personal practice of cutting, arranging, and gluing various article texts onto blank paper for safe-keeping.
