Greg Fitz fonds

  • UTSC 017
  • collection
  • 1972-1977, 1993

The fonds contains photographs taken and developed by Greg Fitz and document a first-hand account of student life on campus from 1972-1976, including campus and residence social life, student and campus events and dances, staff photographs, class registration, and the surrounding grounds of the Scarborough campus. The fonds includes photographs of many events at the St. George campus as well, including the annual downtown Homecoming Parade, and other events with the Engineering Society, including Lady Godiva Memorial Band events, as what had previously been a rivalry between the Scarborough campus and the society later became an alliance. The fonds also includes textual material such as U of T songbooks, stationery, and magazines mentioning Greg Fitz.

The Scarborough College Student Council Darkroom opened in 1972 when Greg Fitz, together with the student council, proposed a budget to Scarborough College administration to build the darkroom. The darkroom was located one floor under the Meeting Place in room S-203, next to CKSR, the campus radio station office. The darkroom was used for black and white processing but was also equipped for colour work and Cibachrome. During some years, in order to use the free facilities of the darkroom, students were required to provide Balcony Square, the student newspaper, with at least two photographic prints to be published in the newspaper.
