Consists of a master copy, with extra illustrations and documents, of In Good Faith, being the story of some Jarvises, namely Stephen Jarvis, and his ancestors, along with an appendix containing the two elder branches of United Empire Loyalist families, namely Munson Jarvis and some family and William Jarivs and some family. Based on family papers, some of which were subsequently deposited in the Metro Toronto Public Library and in the Anglican Church Archives.

The collection consists of journals, reports, notes and correspondence on publishing in Canada compiled during Kane's career at McClelland and Stewart Publishing Company and at Macmillan Company of Canada. It includes journals from his coast-to-coast business trips, correspondence with authors such as Constance Beresford-Howe, John Diefenbaker, Bruce Hutchinson, Dennis Lee, Thomas Raddall, and business associates such as Jack McClelland and John Gray. It also includes notes and correspondence on censorship.

The collection consists mainly of manuscripts and typescripts of Kennedy's published work.

There are also images of the 198th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, showing parades, ceremonies, military exercises and athletic activities such as baseball, possibly at Aldershot. B1987-0024: Correspondence amongst members of the Henderson family including Velyien Ewart Henderson and his wife concerning family and university matters. In particular the letters relate to matters in the Departments of Pharmacology and Physiology, as well as the Faculty of Medicine, Hart House and campus societies. There are also correspondence discussing the departure of J.J.R. Macleod. (1927-1928, 1 box)

B2004-0008: This accession is largely made up of notebooks and loose notes taken by Byron A. Griffith while a student of Math and Physics and a lecturer in Applied Mathematics. Griffith went on to get a PhD. in Mathematics in 1936 and taught Applied Mathematics at the University of Toronto for over two decades. More notably, he played an early role in establishing the University of Toronto Computation Centre. Also included is Griffith's Ph.D. Thesis (1936), some correspondence including a letter from Josef Katz and a memoir entitled : "My Early Days in Toronto" which discusses, among other things, the early days of computers at the University of Toronto. Parts of this was published in the IEEE Annals of History of Computing, (Vol 16, no. 2 p.55-64). (1 box, 1928-1966)

B2007-0005: This accession is made up of course notebooks belonging to Byron A. Griffith, while a student of Math and Physics. Included are notes on 1st and 3rd year Physics and 3rd year Properties of Matter courses. Griffith went on to get a PhD. in Mathematics in 1936 and taught Applied Mathematics at the University of Toronto for over two decades. More notably, he played an early role in establishing the University of Toronto Computation Centre. (1 box, 1926-1930)

Collection is largely comprised of papers from Terry Schott, an orinthological artist and author and chief artist at the Royal Ontario Museum until his retirement. It contains Schott's notes on his field sketches and trip to Madagascar, as well as his draft typescript for two chapters in a planned book on wildlife and art. It also contains Lank's typescript draft of an article on Shortt.

A small collection from the pharmaceutical firm of Lanman and Kemp, New York, that consists of orders received from Canadian firms and individuals.

22 photographs document Ontario College of Pharmacy student Marjorie Wright, later Marjorie Downs. Included is her graduation portrait (1938), a photo album of snapshots showing her graduation, residence, working in a lab as well as King George IV and Queen Elizabeth's visit to Toronto in 1939. Also documenting her student days is a composite portrait of the Senior Executive Class of 1938, Ontario College of Pharmacy of which Marjorie Wright was a member. Finally, there is one portrait of Mrs. Downs later in life as well as an award marking the 50th anniversary of her graduation from the Ontario College of Pharmacy.

Thesis report and drawings by Charles Worsley, student in the Department of Architecture through the early 1940s entitled "Proposals for the future development of the town of Weston and its surrounding area".

The collection consists of the typescript of a novel, The Moon and the Morning Star, with many alterations as well as a suggested epilogue. With it are two pages of notes and a holograph letter from Livesay to Miss Byam in which she discusses the historical background of the novel.

Collection consists of official correspondence and personal letters of Otto Meissner. The material includes birthday greetings sent to Nazi party officials, invitations to Meissner to attend parades and other gala events, letters received sent by German citizens with suggestions and requests for Meissner, and notes accompanying gifts sent to Meissner by various citizens and companies.

The collection consists of eleven letters and notes written by Baron Macaulay to his family and friends. Six of the letters were published in Thomas Pinney's edition of Macaulay's letters in 1974. The papers also include one contemporary photograph of Macaulay, one photograph of his portrait in coloured chalk, and one engraving of him.

This fonds consists of one accession received in 2010 containing records created and collected by Prof. Robert F. Harney during his academic career. The records document to some extent his activities as a graduate student at the University of California (Berkeley), but mostly relate to his activities over 26 years in the Department of History at the University of Toronto. The fonds is organized into eight series and includes documentation relating to his doctoral education in the United States, correspondence with colleagues and students both at the University of Toronto and other academic and scholarly institutions and organizations, drafts of articles, papers, proposed books and research materials on Italians in Canada. Much of the correspondence from the mid 1970s on is signed in his capacity as President and /or Academic Director of the Multicultural History Society of Ontario, an organization he helped to establish in 1976.

Series 5 and 6 provide only a sampling of the original scholarly work that he produced during his relatively short academic career. Series 6 does not contain any manuscripts for the six published books he authored or coauthored between 1975 and 1985. In Series 5 only a small percentage of his articles and papers listed on his curriculum vitae will be found. However, as a result of his untimely death, researchers will find the manuscript for From the shores of hunger consisting of a collection of previously published essays brought together by his son and published posthumously in 1990. No complete manuscript for Prof. Harney’s intended work on Italians in Canada has been preserved.

These records are important for their documentation of the development of one of the first programmes in ethnic, immigration and pluralism studies at the University of Toronto. Prof. Harney’s shift from a specialist in European and Italian history, to immigration and ethnic studies is well documented in the correspondence files and in the sampling of manuscript articles and papers in this fonds.

Includes records relating to his role on the Canadian Libraries Association subcommittee on Library technician programs including articles, workshops, surveys, research materials etc. Also included are records relating to the Ontario Provincial Consultative Committee and files on other community colleges and universities. Biographical file documents his firing in 1954 from Victoria Public Library and public apology by the Board of VPL in 1998.

Consists of an archival collection about the history of the Soviet peasantry, collectivization and repression in the countryside during the 1930s. Records were acquired by Professor Lynne Viola in the course of co-editing two document collections on Soviet collectivization. Included are photocopies of documents from the major archives in Moscow. Some of the documents on collectivization and dekulakization became accessible to researchers in the 1990s, which enabled the publication of the 5-volume The Tragedy of the Soviet Village: Collectivization and Dekulakization, 1927-1939 [Tragediia sovetskoi derevni: kollektivizatsiia i raskulachivanie: dokumenty i materialy 1927-1939], a work that was the result of collaboration of historians from six countries: Russia, USA, Canada, UK, Australia, and South Korea. Another important publication, which was a result of the collaboration, is the 2-volume set The Politburo and the Peasantry: Deportation and Special Resettlement 1930-1940 [Politbiuro i krestianstvo: vysylka, spetsposelenie 1930-1940]. The greater part of this publication contains material from the Archive of the President of the Russian Federation. The collection contains photocopies of documents that were not included in the above mentioned publications, but have enormous historical significance and archival value. The documents came from five major archives in the Russian Federation: The Russian Center for the Preservation and Study of Records of Modern History [Rossiiskii tsentr khraneniia i izucheniia dokumentov noveishei istorii]; The State Archive of the Russian Federation [Gosudarstvennyi arkhiv Rossiiskoi Federatsii]; The Russian State Archive of the Economy [Rossiiskii gosudarstvennyi arkhiv ekonomiki]; The Russian State Military Archive [Rossiiskii gosudarstvennyi arkhiv ekonomiki]; and The Central Archive of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation [Tsentral’nyi arkhiv Federal’noi sluzhby bezopasnosti Rossiiskoi Federatsii] (which is the successor to the Soviet secret police agencies OGPU, NKVD, and the KGB, and which is still closed to all but a handful of researchers.) In addition, the collection includes documents from provincial archives of Russia and Ukraine. The gathering of this material was a part of the Stalin Era Research and Archives Project (SERAP) based at the Centre for Russian and East European Studies (now the Centre for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies) at the University of Toronto.

The collection consists of letters and documents concerning the van der Smissen family in Germany and Canada. The correspondence includes letters to Jacob Gysbert van der Smissen from Johann Lavator, a Reformed minister in Zurich, from Johann Heinrich Jung-Stilling, an eminent theological writer, and from Carl Heinrich von Bogatzky, an influential and prolific Lutheran writer in Germany. The remaining letters are primarily family correspondence, along with a family history, a travel journal, and the sermons of Wilhelm Leendert. It also includes W.H. van der Smisson's English translation, in the original metres, of Goethe's Faust.

This fonds is a very complete documentation of all aspects of Prof. Stoicheff career. His relationship with colleagues at the University, nationally and internationally is evident throughout but especially in the Series 1 Correspondence, Series 8 Professional Association and Activities, and Series 9 University of Toronto. Series 1 Correspondence also documents his mentoring role and his role as a referee and evaluator of peer and student work. This is also documented in Series 11 Teaching, Series 12 Correspondence with Students and Series 8 Professional Associations and Activities. His research activities are extensively documented not only in Series 6 Research but in Series 10 Ontario Laser and Lightwave Research Centre and in Series 3 Publications. Records document Milton Israel’s graduate studies at University of Michigan, and his publishing, teaching and research activities as Professor of South Asian Studies in the Department of History at the University of Toronto. The records relating to his graduate studies consist of research notes and some footnote drafts for his doctoral thesis “The Anglo-Indian in defense of authority, 1905-1910”.

A significant portion of the B2002-0009 accession documents his research and teaching activities relating to South Asian settlement and migration during the 1990s and includes course materials for HIST 394, a course he developed on this topic. In addition there is correspondence and reports relating to the Sikh Studies program in the Department for the Study of Religion developed at the time he was Director for the Centre for South Asian Studies.

The B2011-0004 accession contributes significantly to his research and teaching activities, including course materials and lecture notes for HIS 101, HUM 101, HIS 232, HIS 282, HIS 364 and HIS 394, relating to British colonialism, the history of India and particularly modern India, and South Asian civilization and migration. Also included are several popular lectures and seminars that Professor Israel gave over the course of his career.

Records documenting his publication activities in Series 4 focus on primarily three projects: his book In the future soil: a social history of the Indo-Canadians in Ontario (1994), his work on Encyclopedia of Canada’s Peoples (1999) while he was Chair of the Multicultural History Society of Ontario and “Safe Haven. The refugee experience of five families”, a book and exhibition produced in cooperation with the Royal Ontario Museum. Accession B2011-0004 also includes notes and correspondence regarding several published reviews and articles by Professor Israel, as well as reviews of these key publications.

An earlier accession (B1995-0052) is represented in Series 6, and includes correspondence, research material, notes and card files relating to, with drafts of, Milton Israel's book, "Communications and Power: propaganda and the press in the Indian Nationalist Struggle, 1920-1947" (1994).

Fonds consists of a scrapbook which contains newspaper clippings, congratulatory messages and letters, photographs and postcards related to his Rhodes Scholarship and his time at Oxford. James Carscallen's thesis from Oxford is also included along with manuscripts and notes for other works.

Fonds also contains a collection of playbills and concert bills for various performances in Toronto and overseas, as well as notices for Victoria College events including performances of the Ichthyology Ensemble, for which James Carscallen played the piano, as well as the Victoria's Winter Musical Interlude.

James Carscallen was a member of the Graduate English Renaissance Group, and the fonds contains notices for several of this group's events. There is a also a file related to an event held at Victoria College called An Evening of Romanticism in Literature, Music and Art, which contains a thank you note from Northrop Frye. Fonds also contains 2 photographs from James Carscallen's retirement from Victoria College in 1996.

Fonds consists mainly of administrative records of the Trinity College Literary Institute, including the Debates and Conversazione Committees. These records show the wide variety of activities in which the Trinity College Literary Institute has traditionally been involved and the large part played by “The Lit” in the life of the College. Annual social events included TCLI dinners with some well-known speakers, as well as the annual formal dance, the Conversazione which began in 1871. Elaborate programs, posters and graphic works were produced to promote and advertise these and other events.

Collection consists of various posters for lectures, meetings, performances, elections, and other events on campus. Posters vary in type and style. Posters may be professionally printed, screen-printed, handwritten, or printed from a computer.

Accession B1984-0008 is 1 box of speeches and writings, 1938-1979, which are described in Series 3.

The remainder of the fonds is in accession B2004-0017. These records document much of the research, consultant and teaching activities performed by Professor Etkin over his lengthy career from the mid 1940s to the present with the greatest emphasize being on the 1950s to 1980s time period. Series 1, (Correspondence and Committees) gives a good overview of his professional activities and relationships. It also documents his teaching and mentoring of graduate students who often went on to other University or agencies. Series 8 (Teaching) also documents Etkin’s role as a teacher but is limited to lecture notes on his various courses.

Series 2 through 6 document the breadth of Etkin's research and publishing activities. Often there is a cross over among these series where files for a specific topic can be found in several places. This reflects the tangential nature of his research. A research topic, for example, may have begun as a consultant project but ultimately led to further study resulting in a professional paper being presented at a symposium or published in a journal. Etkin often continued to research into areas of interest even after the grant funded research was complete. So while Series 2 (Lectures, Talks and Seminars) and Series 4 (Research Files) represent the bulk of the research he did on his own, most often there are related topics found in either Series 6 (Grants) or Series 7 (Consulting Files). As a general rule, research conducted for a government agency was usually done as part of a granting structure and is documented in Series 6, while research undertaken for industry was done on a consultancy basis and is documented in Series 7. Series 4 (Book Files) only contains documents related to his books on Flight Dynamics. Records relating to research that Etkin undertook toward the improvement and development of a new particle separator have been placed at the end of the fonds in Series 10 (Infrasizer Ltd.).

While Professor Etkin held several minor and two significant administrative posts at the University of Toronto, only a small amount of records exist in this fonds that document these roles. They can be found in Series 8 (University of Toronto).

This fonds will be of great interest to researchers interested in the early development of the Canadian aerospace industry, especially in the early years of the Cold War. The University of Toronto Institute of Aerospace Studies received much of its outside funding from U.S and Canadian government agencies during this period. Work being done by Etkin and other IAS colleagues documents the link between industry and government in the field of aerospace research. Naturally, this fonds would also be of interest to anyone wishing to study the history of IAS and the early teaching and research of aerodynamic engineering in Canada.

Records in these eight accessions document mainly Ham’s work as a student, a teacher and his professional activities as an engineer. There is also correspondence and memorabilia that document his personal relationships with family members. Although some series do touch upon his administrative posts at the University of Toronto and his advisory roles on government bodies, most of Ham’s activities in this regard can be found in the official archives of that body or office.
