This fonds was acquired in three separate accessions in 1986, 1987, and 1989. The fonds includes a collection of taped interviews and transcripts for a commemorative radio biography on the centenary of Albert Einstein’s birth (made between 1978 and 1979); two radio documentary programs, “Space Exploration” and “Eyes in the Sky” made between 1983 and 1985; and a two-part radio series for CBC’s Ideas, “Reflections in the Mind of the Machine” on the early history of artificial intelligence, made in 1987.

The 1986 Accession includes records related to the Albert Einstein commemoration. The accession includes 94 reel to reel audio tapes and 17 magnetic audio tapes containing relevant interviews, and one box containing typed transcripts for some of the interviews, and related textual materials.

The 1987 Accession is divided into 2 series based on subject matter. These are: ‘Space Exploration: The Dream and the Reality’, and ‘Eyes in the Sky’.

The First series, ‘Space Exploration: The Dream and the Reality’, includes 45 magnetic audio tapes and one magnetic audio reel to reel tape containing relevant interviews, and one box containing typed transcripts and notes on the interviews.

The Second series, ‘Eyes in the Sky’, includes 33 magnetic audio tapes and two magnetic audio reel to reel tapes containing relevant interviews, and one box containing typed transcripts and notes on the interviews.

The 1989 Accession includes records documenting the early history of artificial intelligence used in the preparation of the two-part CBC radio series ‘Reflections in the Mind of the Machine’. The accession includes 41 magnetic audio tapes containing relevant interviews, and one box containing descriptive notes and transcripts, and summaries of interviews with biographical notes about interviewees for all the interviews contained within the fonds.

Correspondence containing family news and comments on life in the British Army.

Collection includes correspondence; manuscripts, typescripts and some galley proofs of the work of Earle Birney; teaching materials; some Malcolm Lowry material; typescripts of other Canadian authors; scrapbooks and memorabilia.

Files were created by the CEA secretary-treasurers, four of whom are represented in the fonds. The records focus on administration and finances, primarily the organization of annual and executive meetings, financial reports, day-to-day accounts, bank and investment statements, and grant applications to government funding agencies. Also included are items relating to the CEA's membership in organizations such as the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences, the International Economics Association, and the International Economic History Association.

Files relating to annual meetings and the twice-yearly meetings of the executive council are extensive and include agendas and other meeting documents, local arrangements, travel grant applications and expense claims, minutes, and follow-up reports. Files from various committees of the association are also present. The administrative files also include general correspondence, membership information, and directories.

Financial documents included in the Secretary-Treasurers’ Series include financial statements, bank statements, cancelled cheques, cheque books and stubs, receipts, bank books, receipt books and copies of taxation forms such as T5s. The CEA publishes the Canadian Journal of Economics and is a sponsor of the Canadian Public Policy/Analyse de politiques. Files for the two journals deal primarily with administration and finances, for instance, the appointment of editors, monthly expense reports, grant applications, revenue statements, correspondence with publishers (particularly concerning costs of publication and distribution), etc. There are very few purely editorial files (that is, submissions to the journals, readers’ reports, manuscripts, proofs, etc.).

This collection of photographs and photographs of drawings of sixty-two Canadian authors was probably made about 1921. Some of the authors included are obscure, others are well-known such as Charles G.D. Roberts.

Includes information regarding surreptitious funding being given by several organizations to Czech banned writers, letters outing Czech cultural figures supporting Bolshevik organizations and includes also references to author and President Václav Havel, Nobel laureate Jaroslav Seifert and filmmaker Miloš Forman.

Correspondence, memoranda, notes, reports, minutes and addresses relating to Donald Clarke's involvement with the Banting and Best Department of Medical Research. Included are files on the opening of the Best Institute, and the following activities linked to the impending construction of the Medical Sciences Building: a review of the BBDMR, renovations to the Banting Institute (including a blueprint), and meetings Faculty of Medicine Advisory Committee on Audio-Visual Resources. Included is a photograph of Clarke and Charles H. Best (1970), and of a frigate and corvette on which Clarke served as a group radar officer during World War II (1944-1945).

Scrapbook on forensic pathology compiled by Dr. William Deadman, city Pathologist for Hamilton from 1919 to 1956 and graduate of the University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine, 1913. Personal records of John Gerald FitzGerald, Professor of Hygiene and Preventative Medicine at the University of Toronto and Director of the School of Hygiene and Connaught Laboratories. Records mainly consist of general correspondence with professional colleagues, 1909-1943. Correspondents include: H.J. Cody, Robert Falconer, Ernest Jones, Adolf Meyer, William Osler, and William H. Welch. Records also include congratulatory letters upon Dr. FitzGerald's appointment as University of Toronto Dean of Medicine, 1932. There is also correspondence from the Rockefeller Foundation concerning Dr. FitzGerald's involvement with the International Health Board, 1918-1938.

B1995-0001: Records of the medical society including minute books from 1931 to 1948, as well as correspondence and reports. Also included are records of the medical society At Home Committee filed by its various sub-committees. Files contain correspondence, memoranda, reports, minutes and some memorabilia. There is also one minute book dated 1923-30.

B1997-0002: Minutes 1942-1947 and 1972-1990; Daffydil Programs and Posters 1972-1996; Medical Open House Programs and Posters 1987-95; Constitution and revisions 1986-1989. Orientation handbooks have been transferred to the print room - see M009.006.

Material assembled by John Coleman relating to Leopold Infeld, whose PhD student he had been at the University of Toronto in 1943. The files contain a covering letter to the accession; correspondence between Coleman and Infeld in 1950, with covering letter of explanation, 1985; reviews of Infeld's book, 'Why I left Canada', 1978-1979; the programme for the Infeld Centennial meeting in Warsaw, June 22-23, 1998, which Coleman attended; and correspondence with Howard Stern of the Ottawa Citizen, who wrote articles (included) for the paper on Infeld in 1998 and 1999, with earlier letters and press clippings (1968-1999).

The collection consists of correspondence between Agudas Israel and H.B. Eisner concerning a land claim in Palestine that was finally settled to the benefit of Eisner. Some family correspondence between Eisner and family members during his trips to Palestine in 1931 and 1935 is also included.

The collection consists of copies of correspondence and memorabilia relating to the lecture tours made by Russell to the United States in 1928 and 1930-31. A telegram and the copy of one letter are from Russell to James Pond, who organized the tours. The rest are carbon copies of letters mainly from Pond to Russell and concern arrangements for specific lectures.

The collection consists of architectural drawings for various projects by the British architect Salvin. Drawings are either executed by Salvin himself or by other architects or draughtsmen in his office. Additional material includes: 8 photographs of Salvin projects; 5 drawings by Salvin's wife, Anne Andrews (Nesfield) Salvin; a catalogue of Salvin's library at Elmshurst; and engravings of British cathedrals.

This fonds consists of 5 series, divided by format. These are: Textual Material, Photographic Material, Audio Material, Video Material, and Artifacts.

The first series, Textual Materials, includes material relating to CRTC applications, specialty services, CHUM, CityTV and other organizations. The bulk of the material pertains to programming on City, MuchMusic and CHUM, though personal correspondence, journals, and administrative documents are also included.

The second series, Photographic Material, includes personal and professional material. Of particular note is a series of black and white prints from the early days of CityTV in the 1970s.

The third series, Audio Material, consists of hearings from 1970s CRTC hearings, as well as MuchMusic’s commercial compilations and original performances by Canadian and international artists.

The fourth series, Video Material, consists of informally filmed one-of-a-kind events at CityTV and MuchMusic, as well as more personal events (Switzer’s wedding, reunion shows, etc.). Also included are DVDs of CHUM international projects featuring videos by performers from around the world.

The fifth series, Artifacts, consists of a number of items used for publicity, including t-shirts, toys, a snowglobe, pins, and lunchboxes.

The collection includes correspondence both private and public, diaries, natural history notebooks, a few sketches, and scrapbooks. Much of the material pre-dates Fothergill's arrival in Upper Canada in 1816. Some of the family correspondence continues for over 30 years after his death in 1840.

Collection of photographs, offprints, clippings, memorabilia and some correspondence chiefly relating to F.G. Banting and to Gairns' work as his assistant in the Department of Medical Research of the Banting Institute. The collection also includes some personal memorabilia. Most of the printed material about Banting and the photographs are duplicated in the Banting Papers (MS Coll. 00076).

Papers consists of typescripts of short stories and author proofs; other writings by Gallant; biographical materials; and audio-visual recordings of interviews with and readings by Mavis Gallant.

Records relating to the founding and early operation of the Association of Part-Time Students, created and collected by its founding president Joyce Denyer. Includes briefs, reports, correspondence, memos, minutes, surveys and essays. Also documented, is Denyer's advisory role to the Ontario government on matters concerning part-time students especially regarding issues of student financial support. There are also some records relating to the Department of University Extension.

This fonds contains records documenting Mr. Davies' university education at McGill University and some records relating to his teaching at University of Toronto (mainly internal publication of Staff notes for courses such as Elementary Surveying), and the Royal Military College, Kingston (1938-39) The majority of the records relate to the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors and its examinations ca 1948-1955. These records include lecture notes and copies of examinations relating to Algebra, Astronomy, Curves, Surveying, Drainage laws, etc. and collected and produced while operating his Tutorial School.
