Safarian 2018 accession

Accession consists of the last remaining records of Prof. A. Edward Safarian. Material predominantly consists of records documenting his professional life as a professor and researcher. These include teaching files from his time at the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Toronto as well as research files and drafts of publications on topics primarily related to multinational enterprises and public policy, mergers and acquisitions, foreign direct investment, free trade, and NAFTA. This accession also contains material reflecting Prof. Safarian’s international outlook, including several personal and business trips to Armenia, a research project on China, and involvement as a board member of the Mosaic Institute. Records include correspondence, annotated articles and notes, reports, lecture notes, research files, drafts of publications and addresses, and photographs.

Safarian 2006 accession

Personal records of Edward Safarian, Professor of Economics at the University of Toronto consisting of personal correspondence, including a file on the Table Ronde d’Économistes France-Canada (7th : 1991 : Paris) and the granting of an honorary degree by the University of Toronto to Arthur E. Child (1994); research files, including interviews, for Safarian’s writings on foreign ownership and multinational enterprise; and files on his professional association with the Canadian-American Committee, including notes on its confidential meetings (1972-1992), and the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (1991-1997), especially its Economic Growth and Policy Program. The files for the last include confidential minutes, notes on discussions and correspondence with officers of the CIAR and the directors and members of the Growth Program, presentations by Safarian to the CIAR and addresses to outside bodies on behalf of the CIAR.

2015 acquisition

The accession is arranged into the four series ‘Gig’, ‘Audio’, ‘Video’, and ‘Order of Canada’, which correspond primarily with the format of the record and have further subseries.

Series 01: Gig Series: Consist of material relating her to many concerts, both within Canada and internationally. Date of performance, and venue are noted.

Series 02: Audio Series: Arranges by media format, and with further subseries based on media format and subject matter, this series captures the wide array of Anne Murray’s musical career. Material includes live recordings, commercially released material, special edition box sets, recorded interviews and demos, and television and radio recordings. The last subseries consists of early Edison Cylinders and a player from the early 20th century.

Series 03: Video Series: Recordings of the many performances and television appearances done by Anne Murray. These include appearances with Alan Thicke, The Mike Douglas Show, and The Merv Griffin Show. Award ceremonies where Murray was present have been recorded and included, as have various television specials.

Series 04: Oder of Canada Series: A framed certificate and accompanying textual records for the Order of Canada.

A variety of publications (scholarly communications, government documents, magazine articles) largely focused on fish, limnology, oceanography, studies of fisheries, ecology, and some miscellaneous topics. There are also several theses, exams, and zoological studies of mammals, marsupials, and insects. Some publications are collaborations with other authors in the collection, but all have been organized by their principal author, retaining their original organization.

Cody Family 1988 accession

Records of members of the Cody and Blackstock families, in particular Henry John Cody, his son Maurice Cody, and his second wife Barbara Blackstock Cody, but including some of her siblings and uncles. Included is correspondence (largely from ca. 1920-1950); records relating to World War I, including correspondence from soldiers at the Front, files on injured soldiers, along with pamphlets, press clippings and related material; press clippings, pamphlets and correspondence relating to World War II; undergraduate course notes and prize books; lecture notes for courses in church history and related subjects given in Wycliffe College; other notebooks, numerous scrapbooks, and publications relating to education, religion (including the late nineteenth century conflict between the Protestants and the Roman Catholic Church), reconstruction, the temperance movement, and other topics of interest to Dr. Cody; poetry; photographs; artifacts.

This fonds is divided into two series: ‘Textual Material’ and ‘Audiovisual Material’.
The first series, ‘Textual Material’, consists of nine subseries. ‘Press and Publicity’ consists primarily of published articles, profiles and reviews of the band between 1980 and 2003. ‘Correspondence’ consists of communications between members of the band and their management, and between management and record companies/promoters; this subseries contains numerous letters from celebrities, and spans the period between 1985 and 2001. ‘Legal’ consists of incorporation documents, contracts, and litigation; this subseries dates from 1984 to 2000. ‘Accounting’ consists of financial statements, royalty statements, invoices and receipts; this subseries dates from 1982 to 2000. ‘Creative’ consists of lyric sheets, poetry, string charts, scrapbooks, sheet music, and artwork; this subseries dates from 1975 to 1999. ‘Memorabilia’ consists of t-shirts, bandanas, displays, promotional postcards, and other items; this subseries dates from 1986 to 2002. ‘Posters’ consists of 67 posters advertising the band and particular concerts and recordings; this subseries dates from 1987 to 2002. ‘Photographs’ consists of photographs of the band and people associated with them; this subseries dates from 1981 to 2002. ‘Miscellaneous’ consists of 40 awards; this subseries dates from 1981 to 2002.
The second series, ‘Audiovisual Material’, consists of two subseries. ‘Audio Recordings’ consists of released and unreleased studio recordings and released and unreleased live recordings (including rough mixes, alternate takes and outtakes); this subseries dates from 1973 to 2003. ‘Video Recordings’ consists of footage of live concerts, interviews, award shows, EPKs (electronic press kids), videos, television advertisements and a documentary film about one of the band’s tours. 2017 acquisition

The Lisa Balfour Bowen fonds contains many aspects of her long career. Her time as an arts reporter and writer is well represented, as many of the gallery programs collected from visits have been included. Her time as a political corresponded is also represented, as there is correspondence between her and those in the public eye. The inclusion of note and original typed articles reflects not only her writing ability and skill as a journalist, but the way in which the news industry used to publish and proof their articles.
The collection is broken into three series:

Series 2: Published Articles
Series 3: Subject and Research Files.
