This collection contains papers and other material pertaining to the work of Eric Ormsby, a Montreal-based writer and Islamic studies scholar. Born 16 October 1941 in Atlanta, GA, Ormsby, a McGill professor, is the author of several collections of poetry and works of non-fiction. His poems have been published in numerous well-known publications, including The New Republic, The New Yorker, The New Criterion and the Norton Introduction to Literature.

Includes word-processed and holograph versions of numerous poems, including sections of forthcoming collection Time's Covenant, short stories, plays, reviews, and essays. Douglas Fetherling Papers

The collection contains a variety of business, personal and family correspondence, photographs, drawings and paintings, printed appearances and materials, galleys, and notebooks as well as Fetherling’s correspondence files, 1959 to 1990.

Douglas Fetherling’s literary papers include drafts, galleys, notes, printed appearances and his art work, as well as significant information on literary works and on well-known and aspiring Canadian authors. Authors forwhom files exist (Atwood, Fulford), are listed in the Container List. There is also correspondence with well-known and alternate presses, such as Fifth House and Broadview Press.

The Fetherling family papers have family correspondence and photographs along with material about Fetherling’s father’s work for an American company that manufactured weapons in the early 1940’s.

The collection includes Fetherling’s correspondence, typescripts for two of his books, four unpublished typescripts (three by other writers) for the New Views of Canadian Art series that he edited, research material for his 1998 biography of George Woodcock: typescripts and print appearances by Woodcock, material about Woodcock, and articles on anarchism.

Other materials in the collection are manuscripts from other writers edited by McKay, as well as correspondence with various writers and friends. It also includes extensive research material, most of it holograph, on writers for his teaching activities.

Derek Walcott Papers

The collection contains literary papers relating to Walcott's poetic, theatrical and prose writings from the early 1980s to the mid-1990s. Holograph notes, rough drafts and revisions are included, as well as final drafts and galleys of publications. Many drafts are the result of a 'cut-and-paste' method using a variety of formats. These are referred to as "composite drafts" throughout. Many works, both poetic and theatrical, also include screen adaptations.

There is a small collection of material relating to Walcott's role as stage director, particularly with the Trinidad Theatre Workshop. The literary papers are complemented by sketches and watercolours by Walcott, often in the form of stage directions or film storyboards.

A collection of David Young's correspondence, literary manuscripts, business papers, and ephemera. Correspondence includes both business and personal matters from the late 1960s to 1995. The literary papers include multiple drafts and the galleys for his novels Incognito and Agent Provocateur, the notes and drafts for some of his most successful dramatic works, among them Fire, and Glenn, and many TV scripts. Also included are several of his adaptations of works by other authors for radio, such as Carol Shield's Swann, and Michael Ondaatje's In the Skin of a Lion and The English Patient. Collection of 190 pieces of vellum in Greek and Latin illustrating the history and development of handwriting from the 4th century until the end of the Middle Ages. Items 1-21 (which are Coptic in origin) illustrate the development of uncial writing from the beginning up to its decline in Egypt in the 9th century. All leaves, with the exception of items 106 and 170 are mounted; items 62-90 and 113-169 are bound volumes.

It consists chiefly of the personal files of individual CCF party members and others active in the socialist and labour movements in Ontario. Among those individuals include: James McArthur Conner, William Crocker, William Dennison, Alice Loeb and Desmond Morton, among others. Also included are the records of Arthur Mould, a labour leader and president of the Ontario section of the Canadian Labour Party.

The collection consists of letters and documents concerning the van der Smissen family in Germany and Canada. The correspondence includes letters to Jacob Gysbert van der Smissen from Johann Lavator, a Reformed minister in Zurich, from Johann Heinrich Jung-Stilling, an eminent theological writer, and from Carl Heinrich von Bogatzky, an influential and prolific Lutheran writer in Germany. The remaining letters are primarily family correspondence, along with a family history, a travel journal, and the sermons of Wilhelm Leendert. It also includes W.H. van der Smisson's English translation, in the original metres, of Goethe's Faust.
