The passion of our Lord according to Saint Matthew : set to music by Johann Sebastian Bach : programs

File contains programs for performances of Bach's St. Matthew's Passion at Convocation Hall at the University of Toronto. The concerts were prepared under the joint direction of Ernest MacMillan (conductor) and Richard Tatersall. The choirs were made up of members from the choirs of the Timothy Eaton Memorial Church, Old St. Andrew's Church, Upper Canada College, Holy Trinity Church, Bloor Street United Church, the Conservatory Choir, and the Mendelssohn Choir. The Music Committee of Hart House and Hart House Theatre were also involved in the productions.

Massey Hall : Marilyn Horne, mezzo soprano ; Levering Rothfuss, pianist

File contains an autographed copy of the program for a concert by the Marilyn Horne with Levering Rothfuss at Massey Hall, Toronto, and two newspaper clippings from the Toronto Star (December 1, 1978 and December 4, 1978) about her performance. The performance was Marilyn Horne's "first local appearance since singing Amneris with the Canadian Opera Company...in 1964."

Scrapbook compiled by Amoï Bird

File consists of a scrapbook compiled by Amoï Bird (1902-1988), containing programs and newspaper clippings of reviews from various concerts, the vast majority of which took place in Toronto. Bird attended the Bishop Strachan School in Toronto, before studying music with Dr. Albert Ham. The file includes a brief biographical note about Bird by Godfrey Ridout.

John Weinzweig

File consists of copies of newspaper articles and programs featuring John Weinzweig and a copy of a memorandum from CBC AM Radio regarding two radio shows on Weinzweig (1973). Weinzweig (1913-2006) taught at the Faculty of Music in the University of Toronto from 1952 until his retirement in 1978.
