University of Toronto. Students' Administrative Council

Includes administrative records in the form of correspondence, financial documents, minutes of committees, policies and reports documenting many of the activities of the Students' Administrative Council.
Early records to the 1960s are mainly financial and include trial balances, audit reports, budgets, financial statements and reports. There is extensive correspondence from the General Secretary Treasurer, Mr. E.A. MacDonald from 1934-1949 except a brief interlude during the war period when Ms. A.E.M. Parkes took on this acting role. There is correspondence for her tenure for the year 1943-44 only.
Financial records, reports, studies, policies and event files document the period from the mid 1960s to the mid 1980s. There are also files on broader student governing bodies such as the National Federation of Canadian University Students, the Canadian Union of Students and the Ontario Federation of Students.

Honorary graduate speeches, 1986-2004 (predominantly 1991-2004), and convocation citations, 1991-2004, filed chronologically. There are no graduate speeches for 1990. A list, compiled by the Office of the Chancellor, of honorary degree recipients, convocation addresses, and citations can be found in the first file.

Luckyj 1995 accession

Correspondence, notes, reports, manuscripts, press clippings, interviews, and photoprints documenting the career of George S. N. Luckyj as a professor in and chair of the Department of Slavic Studies at the University of Toronto. Included is a comprehensive account of the controversy over the establishment of the Chair of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Toronto (1979-1980). Also present are Professor Luckyj's diaries, his memoirs (1987), and the memoirs of his paternal grandfather (1942) and his mother (1970).

Patterson 1993 accession

Manuscripts, publications, notes, and correspondence relating to the activities of Professor Patterson in his capacity as an aeronautical engineer in England, Australia and as Director of the Institute for Aeronautical Studies at the University of Toronto.

Correspondence, certificates, contracts, addresses, drafts of articles and books (including audiotapes), and photoprints documenting the activities of Gordon Neil Patterson, founder and first director of the Institute for Aerospace Studies at the University of Toronto.

Sidney Smith Personal Papers

Personal records of Sidney Earle Smith, President of the University from 1945 to 1957. Includes speeches, addresses, correspondence, scrapbooks, clippings and files created while Minister of External Affairs, 1957-1959. Also includes photos of various events and ceremonies on campus while Smith was President.

Cody Family 1974 accession

Personal copies of books belonging to Dr. Henry John Cody:

  • Hardie, Martin and Warner Allen. "Our Italian Front", with the following material tipped in: a letter from Charles Hamilton Mitchell, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, who was associated with the authors in Italy with British military intelligence during World War I, with a black and white photoprint of himself.

  • Pepper, George Wharton. "Philadephia Lawyer: an autobiography", with scattered paragraphs marked for special attention and the following material tipped in: Convocation programme for the conferring by the U of T of the degree of Doctor of Laws (honoris causa) on Senator Pepper, and a press clipping reviewing a similar autobiography, "Confessions of an Un-common Attorney", by Reginald L. Hines.

Cody Family 1986 accession

Copies of "The Jubilee Volume of Wycliffe College" (1927) and the 1937 edition of same, with the following material tipped or laid in: correspondence, photoprints, press clippings, articles, photographs, programmes and Grip cartoons from the 1870s featuring individuals associated with Wycliffe College, including Daniel Wilson; presentation copies of the 1939 and 1943 Falconer Lectures given by Earl Baldwin of Bewdley and Lord Hailey.

Cody Family 1998 accession

Correspondence and report of Toronto Survey of Family and Children's Services (1950-51). Mrs. Barbara Blackstock Cody was Chair of the Toronto Survey Committee, Welfare Council of Canada. Minutes, correspondence, notes relating to her work in the Toronto Social Work Historical Committee (1962-1963) and the work of Mary Jennison (Dip. Social Services UofT 1928) on the History of Settlement in Canada.

Howarth 1986 accession

Consists of personal papers, including biographical materials, diaries, correspondence (1938-1975), as well as addresses, lectures (1961-1976), publications, articles (1954-1974), administrative files (1943-1976), as well as subject files on architectural institutes, councils, universities, associations, task forces and other organizations (1962-1986). Also includes architectural drawings and photoprints and audiotapes all relating to his career.

This accession contains records from the Office of the Vice President & Principal of University of Toronto Scarborough. Records contain administrative correspondence with external and internal contacts and organizations, faculty and staff, speeches, addresses, agreements, contracts, facility updates, memoranda, event records, and some committee work.

Luckyj 2000 accession

This accession consists of personal and family correspondence; letters of Ostop Lutsky from the Golog; correspondence and reviews relating to his publications, including publication projects with Kiev; course notes and MA thesis; notebooks; family photographs (1900-1994); photographs taken in Kosiv (1931-1936) and of the British Army in Germany (1945-1947); photographs for Professor Luckyj's memoirs; postcard designed by him; and three audio cassette tapes of Luckyj 'end of year reflections' (1980, 1983) and one tape discussing the making of the 'Ukrainian Encyclopedia'.

Two videos documenting the success of the Varsity Blues Football team in winning the Vanier Cup. The first is a taped broadcast of the entire game (Nov. 20, 1993). The second, put together by Friends of the Varsity Blues Football, depicts the trials and triumphs of this championship year. It is entitled "From the Cut to the Cup" (11 min.). (VHS)

Office of the Bursar records include cash books and ledgers (1839-1946) with records of early land titles; subject files dealing with pensions (1910-1938) and correspondence files (1955). Office of the Chief Accountant records include subject files dealing with pensions, salaries and budgets (1946-1964) and correspondence files (1955-1962, 1965-1968). Office of the Comptroller records include subject files relating to a study of the costs of medical education in Canadian colleges in addition to correspondence files (1946-1961, 1965-1967). Office of the Director of Finance records include a series of Estimates for budgets (1965-66 - 1968-69, 1972-73). Other financial record series contain Statements of Trust and Endowment Funds (1953-1969) and Billings (1967-1968). Records also include journals, ledgers, daybooks and cashbooks of Upper Canada College (1850-1894).

The accession contains one small Grand and Toy notebook, which consists of measurements for alterations to rooms or building furniture for a buildings associated with U of T such as Trinity College, Hart House, a museum, and OCE.

Consists of lab notes, research plans and notes, correspondence with researchers, laboratories and corporations, laboratory rules and procedures, research papers, miscellaneous records on mice experiments pertaining to immunotherapy, insuline and carcinogenesis, and files on various lab apparatus.
