[Collection of nineteenth century Scottish chapbooks]
A collection of approx. 600 chapbooks, mainly from the first half of the nineteenth century, although most are undated. Most are printed in Scotland; imprints include Glasgow, Paisley, Edinburgh, Stirling, Falkirk, Aberdeen, Ayr and Kilmarnock, as well as London, Sheffield, Newcastle, Manchester, York and Coventry. Most are anonymous but some titles attributed to authors such as Hannah More, Daniel Defoe, Robert Burns, John Bunyan, James Hogg and Allan Ramsay. Many of the titles are illustrated wtih woodcuts.

Illustrations depict common household goods, such as furniture, mattresses, and glassware which would be featured in Simpson’s catalogues, and ads in the Globe and Mail, The Evening Telegram and The Toronto Daily News. Includes illustrations made for the Royal Coronation in 1937 and the Royal visit to Toronto in 1939.

This collection of post cards, greeting cards and silk handkerchiefs belonged to the Parker/Marriott families. Cards were manufactured predominantly in France, England and Germany. Most of the cards in this collection are addressed to Kate Marriott and Kate, Frank and Vera Parker. WWI period post cards were sent by Frank Parker to his wife Kate and daughter Vera from Europe. Addressed postcards were sent to England and Toronto. The collection includes 18 items that are embroidered silk or include textile components. A list of the items in the collection is available as an electronic finding aid.
