File consists of nine letters from Janet Lander, including three short poems, from August 10 to September 16, 1964, including a letter draft by Wilfred Watson.

Letters from Marshall McLuhan

File consists of four letters from Marshall McLuhan, from 1964 to 1968. Correspondence includes an undated handwritten letter with an attached offprint translation of James Joyce's article, "Daniel Defoe", published in "Buffalo Studies" v1. no.1 (December 1964); an 11 page typescript by McLuhan and annotated by Watson titled "Noah's Archetypes"; a letter of introduction from McLuhan to the University of Toronto Library; and a handwritten letter from Marshall McLuhan dated August 31.

Letter from John Sutherland, Northern Review Press

File consists of a letter, dated April 19, 1954 on Northern Review Press letterhead, from John Sutherland of the Northern Review Press (Montreal, Quebec), rejecting Watson's submitted poem "Water's Paradox". The original submitted copy of the poem is attached.

L'Arche Trosly-Breuil fonds

Henri J.M. Nouwen was a close friend of Jean Vanier and was invited to join the L'Arche Trosly-Breuil and was an active member of their community from August 1985 to May 1986. His experiences at Trosly-Breuil are published in his work, "The Road to Daybreak". The fonds consists of eleven audio cassettes of lectures and retreats given by Nouwen. The fonds also contains one compact disc of photographs of various subjects, including Nouwen. The records range in date from 1985 to 2008.
The Fonds has been organized into two series:

L'Arche Trosly-Breuil (Association)

Sound Recordings series

Series consists of eleven audio cassettes of lectures and retreats given by Nouwen from 1985 to 1994. Specifically, there are two audio cassettes from a ALT Brugge Retreat on the topics of Prayer and Reconciliation. There are two audio cassettes which contain a Mass given by Nouwen on Compassion. There is one audio cassette titled "La Visitation" and another titled "Francais – Homelie – Houietie". There are also five audio cassettes of Nouwen leading a seminar on the Gospel of St. John while he was at L'Arche Trosly-Breuil.

Photographs series

Series consists of one audio compact disc dated April 19, 2008. The CD contains photos taken of L'Arche, including photos of Jean Vanier, Henri Nouwen, Barbara Swanecamp, L'Arche Trosly Breuil, Père Thomas, Pope John Paul II, core members, and assistants. CD was created for the memorial service of Barbara Swanecamp.

Community Council files

Series consists of minutes of regular meetings and correspondence files of the Daybreak Community Council, established to permit participation by staff and core members in the key communication and decision making activities of the community.
The types of records include: incoming and outgoing correspondence; agendas and minutes of meetings of the council; special research reports; calendars; program proposals; event planning and administration documents.
Subjects found in the series include: Daybreak constitution; work programs; spirituality; celebration of holidays and community events; administrative and program analysis and restructuring. See file descriptions for more detailed content information.

Election materials

Series consists of flyers, posters, booklets, official forms and documents, correspondence, and newspaper articles regarding Patrick O'Neill's role as presiding officer at a polling station in the 1918 Irish election, his campaign in the 1920 election for county councillors, and his campaigns in the 1921 and 1929 general elections. Series also includes correspondence regarding the Boundary Commission, O'Neill's decision to take his seat in parliament in 1926, the creation of the National League of the North, and his decision to retire. Series is arranged chronologically.

Correspondence with constituents

Series consists of Patrick O'Neill's correspondence with constituents, supporters, and government ministers in his role as MP for County Down (and later Mourne division) regarding the concerns of his constituency, including: inquiries relating to pensions, licenses, and agricultural subsidies; filling appointed and hired positions such as Postmaster, Inspector for Ministry of Education, or members of the Royal Ulster Constabulary; amendments of acts and bills (relating to public utilities, transportation, agriculture and fisheries, for example); issues such as temperance and gerrymandering; and matters relating to the development of nationalist politics, such as the creation of the National League and the activities of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians. Series also includes notes, official documents, and newspaper articles regarding the affairs of his constituency. Series is divided into the following sub-series: 1. Correspondence with constituents, 1926-1928 2. Correspondence with constituents, 1935-1936. Sub-series are arranged alphabetically by correspondent or subject. Although Patrick O'Neill sat in parliament from 1921-1938, this fonds contains only correspondence records for the years 1926-1928 and 1935-1936. It is not known at this time where the other records reside; some may be found at the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland.

Collected materials

Series consists of press cuttings, booklets, pamphlets, census reports, and correspondence, which Patrick O'Neill collected during his political career, relating to affairs in the town of Warrenpoint and his wider constituency of County Down as well as national issues including the Anglo-Irish dispute and the partition of Ireland. Series includes materials created predominantly during the period from 1920 to 1936, with some correspondence from 1875 to 1920.

Teresa V. O'Neill sous-fonds

Sous-fonds consists of records related to O'Neill's role as literary executrix of her father's estate. Sous-fonds includes a draft of her thesis, correspondence regarding the thesis, correspondence with researchers regarding her father's political papers, and newspaper articles and genealogical information related to the O'Neill family, as well as university diplomas.

Series consists of correspondence with researchers and the Public Record office of Northern Ireland regarding Patrick O'Neill's political papers, as well as genealogical information and newspaper articles relating to Patrick O'Neill's political career, the Crown Hotel, and Teresa O'Neill.

Bibliography working files

Series consists of research notes, index cards, correspondence and draft manuscripts of Feeley's bibliography on Marshall McLuhan. Also includes a draft paper of an article by Feeley on Plato and McLuhan.

Correspondence with Marshall McLuhan

Series consists of 12 letters to James Feeley from Marshall McLuhan. The letters are predominantly from 1962-1965, but there is one letter from 1977. The series also consists of five letters from Feeley to McLuhan between 1964 and 1965.

History and Spirit of Faith and Sharing

The series consists of documents about the history and development of the Faith and Sharing Federation. This includes documents related to first retreats and the incorporation of the Faith and Sharing Federation as a registered charity. There is also material on the history and development of the regional groups. This includes correspondence from the regional delegates about the organization of annual retreats and meetings, 1972-1976, lists of attendees and representatives and newsletters detailing the activities of the regions. There is also a collection of annual reports for the period 1995 to 2002. There is also material on the organizational structure of the Faith and Sharing Federation and the North American Committee including a practical guide to the retreats and personal reflections on the Faith and Sharing movement by members of the North American Committee.

Documents describing the spirit, the structure and the format of retreats

Sub-series consists of documents regarding the organisational structure of the Faith and Sharing Federation, the spirit of the Faith and Sharing movement and a guide describing the format of the Faith and Sharing retreats. The majority of the documents are in two sets of the documents, one written in French and the other in English. Only a French copy of the 2010 Faith and Sharing Organization Structure was provided at the time of donation.

Annual reports on the Regions

Sub-series consists of annual reports from Region 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7. Also includes pamphlets regarding local retreats and meetings and a booklet celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Faith and Sharing community in the Quebec region.

Documents of the Secretary, North American Committee

The series consists of a copy of the original list of the Faith and Sharing Federation fonds produced by Madeleine Seguin, August 15, 1994. Also includes documents relating to the deposit of records to Archives Deschalets, Ottawa, in 1993-1994 and the donation of the records to University of St. Michael’s College in 2004.

Documents related to participation in the Canadian Conference of Catholic Lay Associations

The series consists of documents collected by Madeleine Seguin related to Faith and Sharing's membership in the Canadian Conference of Catholic Lay Associations. The records include reports, memos and agendas regarding meetings, bulletins and other news updates, and a copy of the Charter of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Lay Associations written in French.

Faith and Sharing Bulletins

The series consists of Faith and Sharing bulletins for the years 1977 to 2012. The bulletins generally contain a short letter of introduction by the Secretary and the Co-ordinator of the Faith and Sharing Federation, agendas for retreats and lists of participants. After 1979 the newsletters contain the minutes of meetings for the Executive Committee. The bulletin often features letters written by attendees of the retreats regarding their experiences, regional news items and copies of letters written by Jean Vanier and other members of the Faith and Sharing Federation regarding their experiences and reflections on the work of the Faith and Sharing Federation and the L'Arche communities. Also included in the series are reports of accounting balance sheets for the bulletins for the years 1997 to 2011.

Financial Files

Series consists of annual and monthly financial reports of Faith and Sharing (later the Faith and Sharing Federation), including statements of income and expenditure, and income tax reports.

Sound recordings of Retreats

The series consists of sound recordings of Faith and Sharing retreats throughout North America between 1971 and 1993. The majority of the recordings feature retreat talks given by Jean Vanier, but contributions made by other Faith and Sharing members appear throughout.

Séguin, Madeleine

Draft of Preparing for death

File consists of handwritten notes and a draft manuscript of the introduction to "Preparing for Death". This article is regarding death and Nouwen's second near death experience from an infection. It has been published recently in a revised edition of Nouwen's book, "Beyond the Mirror".

Nouwen's education records and study notes

Series consists of research notes, papers and essays, and reading notes created by Nouwen throughout his own education. Series includes records related to Nouwen's advanced degrees in Psychology and Theology, including research for dissertations.

Nouwen graduated from St. Aloysius College Gymnasium on June 12, 1950. He studied at the minor seminary at Apeldoorn from 1950-1951 before entering the Diocesan Seminary at Rijsenburg, Holland in 1951. He studied Philosophy and Theology while in the seminary from 1951-1957, and was ordained on July 21, 1957. Nouwen studied Psychology at the University of Nijmegen from 1957-1964. He spent two years at the Menninger Clinic as a Fellow in Religion and Psychiatry from 1964-1966. From 1970-1971, Nouwen returned to the University of Nijmegen to pursue a doctoral degree in Theology.

Series consists of published works written and collected by Nouwen during his lifetime. Although there are some of his earliest writings dating from 1956, the series is predominantly dating from 1970 to 1996.

Sub-series consists of published articles as well as bookstore advertising, and transcripts of radio reviews regarding Nouwen's books, audio cassettes, and booklets. Also included are book reviews mentioning Nouwen's forewords and a book of which Nouwen was a contributing author. The articles are in various formats including entire publications, clippings, and photocopies as originally saved by Nouwen. This sub-series contains only those articles which Nouwen or his office collected.
In an attempt to re-establish a system similar to that originated by Nouwen, the Archives created one file to represent each reviewed book, etc., combining the various translations for a single book in the single file. On occasion, articles were photocopied by the Archives staff should more than one of Nouwen's books be mentioned; the copies were distributed to the appropriate book review files.

File consists of one typed copy of one German review of Schöpferische Seelsorge [Creative Ministry]. The review is by Michael Schneider in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
