Richard Teleky Papers

Collection consists of extensive drafts, notes, editing and research material for various Teleky works, including: Winter in Hollywood; Pack Up the Moon; Hungarian Rhapsodies; The Paris Years of Rosie Kamin; Goodnight, Sweetheart and other stories; The Hermit's Kiss; The Oxford Book of French-Canadian short stories and early writings. It also includes manuscripts from other writers such as Larry Fineberg, Priscila Uppal, David Plante, Rosemary Sullivan, Adele Wiseman, Anne Carson and Betty Jane Wylie.

Lorna Goodison Papers

Includes early poetry drafts, many unpublished; Goldengrove corrected proofs, partial drafts and correspondence; Controlling the Silver drafts with holograph revisions ; miscellaneous holograph and word processed drafts of Turn Thanks, including some unpublished work and ink sketches; drafts of Travelling Mercies; From Harvey River drafts, proofs and correspondence (including early drafts titled ‘Rocksteady’ or ‘Rock Steady’) with editorial revision and correspondence; Fool-Fool Rose is Leaving Labour-in-Vain Savannah drafts; print, audio and video appearances by author, poet and professor Lorna Goodison.

Sir Edmund Walker Papers

This collection includes 56 boxes and items. The documents consist of personal and business correspondence, articles and addresses, banking and legal documents, estate information, biography information, and other items. The correspondence relates to art and the National Gallery, De Grassi Point, geology, Japanese consul, The Champlain Society, the National Battlefields Commission, the Royal Colonial Institute, the Round Table, University College Alumnae Association Building Committee. There is a significant amount of correspondence from the Canadian Bank of Commerce, the University of Toronto, and the Royal Ontario Museum, and with many prominent individuals in Canada and worldwide as well as letters to Mary before and after they married and messages of condolence received by the family after the death of Sir Edmund Walker. Other documents in the collection relate to the Alexander, Buchan, and Morrow families; the Coronation of King George V and other special events; the Duke of Sutherland's Scheme (Imperial Colonization Corporation of Canada); the West Virginia Debt Settlement; and C. White Mortimer. The items are books, a lace handkerchief, a wooden drawer containing numerous calling cards, card index of pictures and art objects, a framed drawing of the coat of arms, Sir Edmund Walker's certificates and medal upon being admitted as a Knight of the Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem, pieces of the fireplace from Long Garth, a silver vase, a silver bowl, a china plate with Walker crest and logo, and a fishing rod and net.

Elspeth Cameron Papers

Includes correspondence from writers, artists, poets, friends; material related to Elspeth Cameron’s life and work: such as writing, teaching, photography, literary juror, conferences, readings; print appearances; ESL scripts for videos to be made and used in Beijing to teach children; print material from 2001 accession has been incorporated, primarily print material re: Maclennan biography and Quebec Writers’ Federation Non-Fiction Jury 2000.

Bruce Whiteman Papers

Collection consists of notebooks and drafts of Whiteman's various writing projects, including poetry, book reviews, articles, lectures and other literary endeavours. There is also an extensive collection of research materials compiled for an unfinished bibliography of Contact Press, as well as correspondence.

Karen Mulhallen Papers

This collection consists primarily of material related to the production of Descant, the literary journal edited by Karen Mulhallen, as well as some of Mulhallen's personal papers. The Descant papers include original manuscripts, correspondence, copy edits, typeset galleys and office administration files.

Barbarian Press Papers

This accession consists of the manuscripts, illustrations, page proof sheets, correspondence and other editorial material for Barbarian Press books released between 2002 and 2005, including: Endgrain Editions Three: Peter Lazarov (2002), John Keats’ Eve of Saint Agnes (2003), Hoi Barbaroi: A Quarter Century at Barbarian Press (2004), Emily: Opposites Attract (2004), Carlo Toselli’s What is Time? (2004) and John Loney’s Gallipoli (2005). It also contains material for smaller, miscellanous Barbarian Press projects, including catalogues, wedding invitations and broadsheets.

Alberto Manguel Papers

The 2006 accession complements the existing Alberto Manguel collections held at the Fisher Library. It consists primarily of original draft manuscripts, translations, galleys and page proofs for Manguel's recently published work, notably The Library at Night (published 2006), as well as for his commissioned articles, reviews and other projects for a variety of publications. (Many of these published articles are in the collection.) It also includes manuscript drafts for two as-yet unpublished novels in English, At The Mad Hatter's Table and The Book of Praise. Among the other published works represented in this collection are: The Reading Diary (US version, published in 2004); two Manguel-edited anthologies: THe Penguin Book of Christmas Stories (2005) and Memoria Para el Olvido: Los ensayos de Robert Louis Stevenson (2005); A Room Full of Toys (2006); and, The Secret Supper, authored in Spanish by Javier Sierra and translated by Manguel. It also includes material for the book series Manguel edits for the French published Actes Sud.

There is a small number of personal diaries and agendas in this collection, as well as correspondence, primarily related to his work. There are also large files of correspondence and other administrative records from his two primary agencies of the past 15 years, Lucina Vardey and Westwood Creative Artists, both based in Toronto.

Eric Ormsby Papers

Includes ‘Readings’, Eric Ormsby’s weekly column in the New York Sun, both print and draft versions; Al-Ghazali drafts and translation; short pieces, reviews and poems, both published and unpublished; ‘Student Writings’ on various subjects, University of Pennsylvania, 1969-1972; a holograph notebook, 2004-2005; personal and publishing correspondence; first published poems and first published article and other material related to his life and work.

Champlain Society Papers

Consists of the administrative files of the Champlain Society, including material related to various Society publications, including manuscripts. This accession is primarily material and correspondence from the files of former General Editors J.B. Conacher and Morris Zaslow, and Honorary Treasurer J.K. Armour, as well financial and other administrative material from the mid-1990s onward

Joe Rosenblatt Papers

This collection consists of manuscript drafts and other material related to various writing projects by poet and visual artist Joe Rosenblatt, including Parrot Fever (published by Exile Editions, 2002) as well as two as-yet unpublished works: Dog Poems, a collaboration with Vancouver-based poet Catherine Owen and photographer Karen Moe, and Hogg Variations / The Lunatic Muse, a collaboration with Barry Callaghan. The collection also contains a large volume of correspondence, primarily e-mail.

Erika Ritter Papers

The collection includes manuscript drafts of Ritter's literary output, including her plays, novels and various short pieces for newspapers, magazines and radio. It also includes correspondence.

Ronald Hambleton Papers

This collection consists of various projects – some completed, others unfinished and abandoned – from freelance writer Ronald Hambleton. It includes some older material, including interview transcriptions from his broadcast work for the BBC and CBC from the 1940s and 1950s and some original holograph drafts of his poetry, along with more recent work, including an unpublished novel entitled Private Performances and some children’s stories.

Eric Ormsby Papers

Includes correspondence (personal, publishing and editorial); drafts for articles; talks; unpublished works; ‘discarded poems’; photographs (E.O., Morocco and others); printed appearances; E.O.’s bible 1965; holograph notebooks; ‘letters to Dorothy Ormsby (former wife), 1966’; notes pertaining to Islamic Studies work and translation.

Trinidad Theatre Workshop Papers

2005 Accession: Includes papers reflecting the various activities of the Trinidad Theatre Workshop, 1990-2005, from performances and travel, to budgetary and financial information, correspondence, teaching, training and theatre education. The Trinidad Theatre Workshop was established in 1959 by Derek Walcott, with artistic direction by Albert Laveau.

2006 Accession: Includes material reflecting the various activities of the Trinidad Theatre Workshop, from scripts and correspondence to budget and financial material.

Mary Burns Papers

Includes early writings and drafts of published and unpublished material, extensive research, personal and business correspondence, and other material related to her books and publications.

Coach House Press Papers

This is the first accession of the Coach House Press (CHP) papers by the Fisher Library. It primarily includes files accumulated and maintained by Stan Bevington, founder of the CHP. (While Library and Archives Canada holds a significant amount of Coach House Press materials, Bevington held back many of his own personal files related to CHP, with the intention of donating them to the Fisher Library). The papers include accounting materials for the Press–price quotes, sales invoices, payroll information, etc. –and other materials related to the running of the CHP. It also includes material collected by Bevington, dubbed “Stan’s ephemera,” which contain handwritten notes written by Bevington, as well as correspondence, programs and other assorted and interesting items.
The collection is particularly noteworthy for its extensive collection of computer-related material, including the files for SoftQuad, the company co-founded by Bevington that was at the forefront of the digital age in publishing. Bevington is considered a publishing pioneer in the transition to digital technology from traditional typesetting.

Dennis Lee Papers

Includes a complete archive of the work of Dennis Lee, beginning from the last accession in 1998 to the present; with material from: Bubblegum Delicious (2000); The Cat and the Wizard (2001); revised edition of Garbage Delight, subtitled Another Helping(2002); Pasticcio di Alligatore (2002); Un (2003); SoCool (2004); reprints of Alligator Pie and Jelly Belly; editing material; Toronto Poet Laureate Material; early (1957 on) and later literary correspondence; letters from children; critical reactions from children and young adults to his poetry and other material related to his life and work, such as the Queen’s Jubilee Luncheon. Includes some photographs.

Alberto Manguel Papers

This collection includes original draft manuscripts, galleys and page proofs for Manguel's published work, including his book A Reading Diary (2004) and his anthology Penguin Book of Christmas Stories (2005), as well as for his articles, reviews and other projects for a variety of publications. It also includes translations of his work, published clippings (of his own work and articles about him), correspondence (October 1999-July 2005) - both personal and business - material related to his work on various literary juries (including the Man Booker International Prize 2005), his drawings, and bound galleys and page-proofs of books sent to Manguel for review.

Jim Christy Papers

A complete archive demonstrating the variety of activities in the life of Jim Christy. It includes holograph notebooks, manuscript drafts of his work, correspondence with numerous writers, doodles, sketches, collages and material related to the United States Vietnam War draft and anti-war movement.

George Fetherling Papers

Consists largely of manuscript material for Fetherling’s novella, Tales of Two Cities. It also includes correspondence, both editorial and personal.

This collection is comprised of material from a number of different and important British and Canadian families. It has been collected and maintained over the years by Rosemary Partridge (nee Annesley). She is the daughter of John Smyth Annesley, whose original documents comprise a large share of the material in this collection, which is broad in its diversity. It includes an extensive collection of 19th century seafaring material, including ship logs, diaries, and British Naval documents, through to items from the First World War, including photos and correspondence. It also includes extensive correspondence among member of the various families represented in the collection, as well as original diaries and journals.
