Taken in 1950 on a trip to Italy, Henri Nouwen and [Fiammetta?] Cavatorta are seen at Ostia Antiqua. Also included is a photo of Henri Nouwen with Mr. Cavatorta near Naples. The annotations on the page read: "Met Fiammetta naar Ostia Antiqua 1950" and "1950 met Mijnheer Cavatorta en Franco naar Napels".

Taken on a trip to Zuschen Sauerland, Germany between February 7-12, 1964, the photos capture various scenic views of an unidentified town, snow covered roads and a [hotel?] called the Icle Edelpils. The annotation on the page reads: "Zuschen-Sauerland 7-12 Febr 1964."

Photographs of Topeka, Kansas

File consists of 127 photographs taken while Nouwen was working at the Menninger Clinic in Topeka, KS. The photographs feature landscapes, the outside of the Menninger Clinic buildings, unidentified people (including several children), a group of men hunting in the winter, a group of men riding horses (including one photograph of Nouwen and several taken from the back of a horse), a red Volkswagen Beetle car, a large group of men in a line entering a large building (possibly a capitol building?), some of a lunar module outside (possibly taken in Houston?). These photographs were likely taken by Nouwen between November 1964 and November 1965.

File consists of an album of twenty-six photographs of Nouwen (wearing a blue collared shirt, light gray sweater and gray pants), Peggy McDonnell, Nathan Ball and others at McDonnell's home in Peapack, NJ, where Nouwen stayed during part of his 1995-1996 sabbatical and formed the "Red Barn Community". Handwritten captions accompany many photographs; pages 11, 14 and 23, are missing photographs, but contain the following captions: "LOVE THY NEIGHBOR AS THYSELF" (page 11); "HE LIVES - AND SMILES (HE DRANK FROM THE CUP)" (page 14); and "I THINK I NEED A SABBATICAL (DID I SAY THAT 8 MONTHS AGO?)" (page 23). Page 24 contains only the caption: "YOU'LL ALWAYS BE IN OUR, UM,/ER,/PRAYERS/DREAMS/HEARTS/THOUGHTS/AND THE REST OF/OUR LIVES".
