Mary took a pound of expensive oil and anoints the feet of Jesus and wipes his feet with her hair.

All the problems "out there" are in our communities too: authority, relationships, breakages, communication, questions of morality, religion etc. L'Arche is often a mess, so we live the reality of our world..

I picked this reading because it is the essence of what we are called to live as L'Arche and L'Arche's call in the world. The parable about the grain is radically different from what our world tells us about where we will find life.

The gift of Mary is the gift of the heart, the gift of love and gentle listening to Jesus. The gift of Martha is to serve. Be attentive this week to let Mary come up in you, i.e. to cherish silence, which is difficult. Yet silence is the place where we meet Jesus.
