File consists of correspondence, from Rev. Kenneth Kinnett, regarding Nouwen's participation in a retreat for both Episcopalian and Roman Catholic clergy organized by the Clergy of the Diocese of Atlanta. Kinnett suggests Nouwen speak on the subject "The Interior Life: How can we be nourished by those whom we minister." There is nothing to indicate if that is what he did speak on.

File consists of three 1.5 mm audiotape reels, presumably sound recordings of Wilfred Watson's theatrical productions or his public readings.

The file consists of business documents including an original signed permission granted letter for the use of an excerpt of Nouwen's writing in Peacemaking: Day by Day, the associated cheque request, and the cheque receipt for Living in Deep/Lutheran.

August 1985

File consists of correspondence and other material regarding Nouwen's participation in August Desert Wilderness, an event protesting nuclear testing, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Includes a copy of a letter from Jim Antal to Anne Bucher and a letter from Jim to Nouwen regarding the event. Nouwen gave a talk on August 6th. Also includes a pamphlet about the event, a postcard, and photograph of Jim and family.

File consists of material regarding Nouwen's car insurance with American Mutual Insurance Companies. Includes documents related to the theft of Nouwen's car in October 1984.

  • Autograph letter (seemingly) by J.K. Huysmans to «Mons. Arnoud», dated «Vendredi 21 Xbre» Huysmans offers a copy of his novel À Vau l’eau to Arnoud.
  • Autograph letter from J.K. Huysmans to J.H. Rosny – with envelope, stamped from Toulon, July 21, 1891 (according to the Paris stamp at the back of the envelope) – the envelope bears the address of Alphonse Lemerre, Rosny’s publisher. Huysmans talks about Le Termite, a gallery of literary portraits published by Rosny in 1890. He enjoyed the book but deplores that the portraits of Villiers de l’Isle Adam and Barbey d’Aurevilly may leave something to be desired.

Baccalaureate/Yale Commencement - May 23, 1981

File consists of correspondence and other material regarding Nouwen's involvement as preacher in the Yale Divinity School's Baccalaureate service. Includes a program from the service. Nouwen's sermon was entitled "Go Where You Would Rather Not Go." May be same or similar address given at Princeton Theological Seminary commencement on June 2, 1981.

File consists of business correspondence concerning With Open Hands and Reaching Out; business documents including a fall 1987 Ballantine/Epiphany catalogue, a review of With Open Hands and cover proofs for With Opening Hands (2 versions), and The Way of the Heart (2). File also contains correspondence regarding a book by Gail and Jill Perry, "A Rumor of Angels" in which a quotation from Within Open Hands is used. Research into this book indicates that it was published in 1989.

Baltimore Clergy and Laity Conference - March 28, 1987

File consists of correspondence and other material, from John Springer, regarding Nouwen's participation as a speaker at a conference sponsored by the Baltimore Clergy and Laity Concerned (CALC), Baltimore, Maryland. His topic was "From Discord to Ministry - Renewing the Faithful Life in North America." Includes a letter from Nouwen to Springer in response to feedback he received from his talk. Also includes correspondence regarding a letter of recommendation to Father Gustavo Gutierrez from Nouwen on behalf of the 2nd Annual Latin America conference and a copy of "CALC Report" Aug./Oct. 1985.

Bank of Montreal - US chequing account

File consists of material regarding Nouwen's Bank of Montreal US chequing account. Includes receipts for items paid for with the US account, some including notes, expense forms and the cheque book in use at the time of Nouwen's death. Also includes correspondence, 1996 tax forms and a list of Nouwen's assets as of September 1996.

Bantam Books

File consists of business correspondence concerning Bob Durback's Seeds of Hope: A Henri Nouwen Reader, including translations in Finnish, Portuguese and Brazilian; business documents include copies of advertisements for Seeds of Hope.
Includes a letter concerning Wayne Muller's book How, Then, Shall We Live dated 12 September 1995.

Baptism file

File consists of letters and handwritten notes pertaining to baptisms occurring at Daybreak. File includes a copy of type letter to Father Wilfred Lenius from Connie Ellis, Nouwen's administrative assistant, regarding additions to the parish registry of baptisms carried out by Nouwen and an original signed letter from Nouwen to the parents of the children to be baptized as well as handwritten notes by Nouwen and other on baptism ceremony to be performed. File also includes ten books on baptism.

File consists of two brochures, Baptist Peacemaker International Spirituality #1 and Baptist Peacemaker International Spirituality #2. Within Baptist Peacemaker International Spirituality #2 there are annotations in Nouwen's hand.

Includes copies of several outgoing letters from Nouwen. Also includes a copy of the August 1990 L'Arche Nieuwsbrief, a newsletter for L'Arche Belgium.
