Expansion of the ritual

The series contains primarily correspondence with Camps Two through Nine, much of it dealing with the matter of verifying candidate credentials from different jurisdictions. There is also some correspondence of a social nature related to the establishment of authorities and Camp Wardens in new jurisdictions. The system of record keeping by Camp appears to have stopped in 1954, after which correspondence pertaining to the Camps may be found in the individual correspondence files in series 5. Arrangement is by Camp number, followed by the records pertaining to discussions of expanding the Ritual to the United Kingdom, India and the United States.

Camp Ten records pertain to a proposed camp in Ottawa, which was never established. Camp Ten, when it was established, became the camp for the Université Laval in Québec City in 1956. Camp Twelve was established by Carleton University in Ottawa in 1958. The B1995-0040 accession includes one file of material, from 1978-1987, related to the expansion of the “Links” programme of the Order of the Engineer organization, based in the United States. The records for Camp Five contain an example of an early iron ring.

Filmmaking

This series contains the original film elements for several films made by Kay Armatage.
There are also files documenting this facet of her career including correspondence, film proposals, research notes, clippings, grant applications, budget reports, shot lists and scripts. Several files document her films Striptease, Storytelling and Artist on Fire, as well as Prof. Armatage’s attempt at writing and directing a film about Nell Shipman which did not go beyond development.

Photographs in this series include shots taken during the production of several of her films. There is one file documenting the filming of Storytelling which includes shots of Northrop Frye in New York City. There are also three contact sheets by Babette Mangolte taken during the making of Artist on Fire, with views of Joyce Weiland’s Toronto studio and home. The series also contains one file of printing plates used in the creation of publicity material for Prof. Armatage’s early film Jill Johnson, October 1975.

Religious artifacts

Sub-series consists of religious artifacts owned by Henri Nouwen but not a part of the collected materials from his office, including psalms and prayers, rosary beads, stoles, vessels, large wooden crucifix, a tabernacle, and a gold chalice.

Eight-key cocuswood flute with wide sterling-silver bands : Thomas Prowse, London

Item is a flute, made by Thomas Prowse in London. The flute has sterling-silver keys with salt-spoon style ends, mounted on blocks. It is a brilliant example of the large-holed flute developed by the great English flutist Charles Nicholson Jr. The historical importance of this model is that Theodore Boehm heard Nicholson playing it during a visit to England in 1831. The epoch-making Boehm flute universally used today was the result.

Royal Society of Canada

The series partially documents Francess Halpenny’s participation into activities of the Royal Society of Canada, from 1982 to 1991. It partially documents her participation to the Royal Society of Canada centennial celebrations, in 1982 ; her involvement as a member and president of the Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences Council, also called Council Academy II, from 1982 to 1988. The series also partially document Halpenny’s involvement in promoting women’s place in scholarship by participating into activities of the Affirmative Action Committee in 1988 and 1989 ; by giving lectures and talks about women in scholarship during a tour of the Maritimes in 1990 ; by participating in the discussion “Women in scholarship : One step forward, two steps back?” at the Society’s annual meeting in Victoria (British Columbia), in 1990 ; and by participating into the conception of the booklet "Claiming the Future".

The series consists of 10 files including minutes of meetings, personal notes, drafts of reports, correspondence, press releases and press clippings. The series also includes 2 photographs of Dr. Halpenny taken during the Society’s annual meeting in Winnipeg, 1986 ; one photograph with Professor Laurent Dennis during a reception at the Faculty of Library and Information Science reception in honour of her election to the Royal Society of Canada.

University of Toronto Governing Council

Series A, University of Toronto Governing Council, covers the years 1963 through 2002. The Governing Council is the highest governing body of the University of Toronto. In 1963, the Governing Council drafted A Provisional Plan for Two Off-Campus Colleges in the University of Toronto, which established Scarborough College (later UTSC) and also Erindale College (later the University of Toronto Mississauga, or UTM). The series includes correspondence and address lists for various council members, by-laws for the council, and council minutes from 1973 to 2002. Also included are documents relating to the opening of the College in 1964 for extension courses and the formal opening in 1966. Materials regarding the design and construction of the College, including architectural drawings, are included as well, since the Governing Council oversaw the construction of the initial buildings.

Administrative, financial and legal files from the Bursars of King's College and University College, including Henry Boys, Joseph Wells, David Buchan, John Edward Berkeley Smith amd Ferdinand Albert Moure. Consists of accounts, advertised tender and sale, bank receipts, bonds, commission, correspondence, indenture, securities, and warrants. Includes publications (ca. 1822-1927), a plan of a subdidvision in the eastern part of Port Hope, original keys and an external view of University College before the fire of 1890..

University of Toronto. Department of Public Affairs

One video documents President Prichard's address at Spring Reunion on June 3, 2000. A CD containing photographs and a web presentation document the dedication of the Roy Oglesby Room at 21 King's College Circle. Two CDs document the University of Toronto 175th Banners. They contain portraits (Tif files) as well as images of each banner (PDF files). There are 136 people, mainly famous or accomplished alumni and faculty.

University of Toronto. Department of Public Affairs

Banners (5) produced by the University to commemorate the 175th Anniversary. Banners were displayed on street polls along high traffic areas of the Greater Toronto Area. Each banner contains image of an individual graduate: Margaret Atwood, Peter Gzowski, J. Robert Prichard, Vaira Vike-Freiberga and Deborah McGregor. Also includes accompanying brochure with biographies of alumni.

Minutes and agenda of the following Faculty of Nursing Committees: Admission / Applications Committee (1970-1978, and 1999-2002); Admission and Awards (1970-1999); Awards Committee (1998-2000); Committee on Standing (1983-2003); Curriculum meeting (1971-2005); Faculty Council Committee (1975-1996, 1998-2000); Faculty of Nursing Executive Committee (1972-1991); Graduate Committee (1979-1999); Monograph Committee (1994-1998); and Staff Meeting (1955-1988). Also included are personnel files as well as some print materials and 2 boxes of artifacts (nursing uniforms).

University of Toronto. McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology

Consists of various administrative files including; policy statements and forms, human resources contracts, student files, budget information, student and faculty inquiries, yearly reviews and reports, program events, grant applications and general correspondence. The accession also consists of a large number of invoices and contracts. Many of the files appear to be from the desk of Derrick de Kerckhove, Director of the McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology from 1983 until 2008.

University of Toronto. University College Archives

This accession contains material collected by the University College Archives. Most of the records have been collected and donated over the course of the College's existence, and range from personal records of prominent faculty members (Barker Fairley, George Needler, John McCaul), and various University College departments and committees, to more ephemeral and biographical reference material generally relating to the College. The accession also contains a large amount of photographs and sounds and moving images, as well as artifacts from the College.

University of Toronto. Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences

This accession contains early records from the Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences dealing particularly with eye pathology. Included are several textual records proposing the formation of an ophthalmology department and photographs of early eye pathology labs. There are also a large number of slides containing samples of eye pathologies. Some patient records are included.

Hart House Camera Club

This accession from Hart House contains a quilt made the the Crafts Club to commemorate the University of Toronto's 150th anniversary. The quilt is made of squares designed by various members of the university community. The quilt was put together by Janice Page. Also included in this accession is a copy of the minutes of the Craft Club initiating the sesquicentennial quilt project in order to provide context.

University of Toronto. Faculty of Information (iSchool). Inforum Library

This accession of records transferred from the Faculty of Information's Inforum Library contains the records of Winifred G. Barnstead, and document her work as the first Director of the Library School at the Ontario College of Education—the original incarnation of the Faculty of Information. The records document Barnstead's work in developing formalized training at the Library School during her tenure from 1928 to 1951. The records include correspondence with libraries and other library schools, UofT staff and faculty, drafts of manuscripts and articles written by Barnstead, School/Faculty informational bulletins, information on course programming and development, as well as some miscellaneous collected material relating generally to librarianship and library studies.

Promotional materials and memorabilia

Series consists of a promotional booklet and poster, which feature the same photograph and include excerpts of newspaper reviews of his performances. Series also includes his wooden conductor's baton.

Huntsman 1978 accession

Accession consists of correspondence, research notes, manuscripts, ca. 1600 sample fish scales, maps, articles, offprints, newspaper clippings dealing with Huntsman's research in fishing. Also includes publications, photoprints, photographic negatives, aerial photographs, scrapbooks and some slides.

Cody Family 1980 accession

Badges and medals awarded to Henry John Cody (1918, 1937, 1945); medals awarded to his wife, Barbara Blackstock Cody, with accompanying correspondence, certificates, press clippings.

Ontario College of Pharmacists

Photoprints, magazines, brochures, certificates, documenting the Ontario College of Pharmacy. Arranged in the following series: Series I, Graduating Class and Class Sessions, 1986-1977; Series II, Class officers and officials, 1899-1925; Series III Committees and Council, 1911-1964; Series IV, Athletic Teams, 1896-1930; Series V Building and laboratories, 1910-1923; Series VI Miscellaneous photos including Niagara Apothecary, Niagara-on-the-Lake; Series VII Textual items relating to Niagara Apothecary and the OCP, 1871-1902; Series VIII Artifacts including medallions and decals, 1885-1912.

Cody Family 1988 accession

Records of members of the Cody and Blackstock families, in particular Henry John Cody, his son Maurice Cody, and his second wife Barbara Blackstock Cody, but including some of her siblings and uncles. Included is correspondence (largely from ca. 1920-1950); records relating to World War I, including correspondence from soldiers at the Front, files on invalided soldiers, along with pamphlets, press clippings and related material; press clippings, pamphlets and correspondence relating to World War II; undergraduate course notes and prize books; lecture notes for courses in church history and related subjects given in Wycliffe College; other notebooks, numerous scrapbooks, and publications relating to education, religion (including the late nineteenth century conflict between the Protestants and the Roman Catholic Church), reconstruction, the temperance movement, and other topics of interest to Dr. Cody; poetry; photographs; artifacts.

Stacey 1990 accession

This accession documents Stacey's personal life, his academic achivements as teacher and historian as well as his administrative duties within the Department of National Defence, Directorate of History. Includes correspondence, diaries and notebooks, addresses and lectures, manuscripts and publications, subject files, student papers, photographs, and personal memorabilia.
