These records document the life and career of social and military historian, Professor Desmond Morton. They relate primarily to his research and writings; his administrative and teaching duties at Erindale College, University of Toronto; his political activities in the New Democratic Party; and his work as a consultant to the government of Ontario on educational matters and to the federal government, primarily with regard to defence issues.

Included is correspondence, both personal and professional; administrative files from his years at Erindale College; course and lecture notes and other teaching materials; research notes, drafts of manuscripts and publications (with covering correspondence), and copies of his newspaper columns, and radio and moving image scripts. There are extensive files relating to other professional activities, to political activities generally and to election campaigns in particular. There also files on his work as a consultant, primarily with the Department of National Defence and, in particular, with regard to the Somalia affair. Related to these textual records are photographs, posters, audiotapes and videotapes.

Fonds consists of published articles, 1898-1934, and typescripts, [n.d.], written by Dr. Frederic Newton Gisborne Starr on medical subjects; two photographs. Also includes a scrapbook (compiled by unknown) with two more photographic portraits of Dr. Starr and his wife (Annie Callander MacKay), a copy of the testimonial to Dr. Starr upon his retirement in 1933, tributes to him by friends and students after his death, copies of invitations he received to events at Buckingham Palace, newspaper clippings and articles.

Fonds consists of textual material and photographs relating to the Hicks family. Some material relates to the university career of RKH and includes research notes, articles, translations, book reviews, and poetry in the field of French literature. The majority of the material includes draft copies of RKH’s memoirs as well as diaries that he kept in the years leading up to his retirement in 1953 until his death in 1964. Some of the material relates to RKH’s personal life, including family correspondence, Christmas poems, and records pertaining to the life and amateur pursuits of Marjorie Ogilvy Edgar Hicks, including a scrapbook and two drafts of various chapters of an incomplete historical novel. Some material relates to the education and career of RKH’s son, John Edgar Hicks, including family correspondence and financial documents.

The fonds contains James’s records pertaining to his academic career. It includes literary material including material relating to A Bibliography of Canadian Poetry; (annotated) essays on Tennyson; articles and reports; and an acknowledgement of the gift of James’s library to Victoria University Library (1898). The fonds also contains a letter from Wilfred P. Mustard, an author and James's colleague, and an Ontario Historical Society resolution recognizing James's passing.

This fonds consists of three accessions containing correspondence, notes, diaries, certificates and diplomas, manuscripts and copies of printed articles, lecture notes, and photographs documenting Prof. E.K. Brown's career as professor of English literature at the University of Toronto, University of Manitoba and University of Chicago. Also includes correspondence to his widow, Margaret Brown (1953-1988), artifacts such as his doctoral cap, Governor-General Literary award of 1944 and Lorne Pierce Medal awarded to him posthumously by the Royal Society of Canada.

Fonds consists of materials written by Feilding in his academic and administrative capacities, including unpublished book manuscripts, articles, sermons, radio broadcasts, newsletters, daybooks, and notes. The subject matter is weighted towards explication and criticism of the Marriage Canon as well as divorce and homosexuality under Anglican Church law. The fonds also contains research materials collected by Feilding (journal and magazine articles, newspaper clippings, pamphlets, and books), correspondence (predominantly with H.R.S. Ryan) and minutes from the Commission on Marriage and Related Matters. Also included is a pastel drawing of Feilding by Constance Wingert.

Minute books, constitution, some correspondence and notices documenting the Faculty Wives Associations (1932-1959) and its precursor the Ladies Auxiliary (1900-1923). There is also one file documenting the establishment of the University Women's War Services Committee established in 1939.

The records in this fonds consist of a single accession and appear to be all that have survived documenting the academic life of Prof. Joseph Stanley Will. Originally received by the Rare Book Department (MS Collection No. 33) of the University of Toronto Library after Prof. Will’s death in 1964, they were transferred to the University Archives in 2004. They appear to have been part of a larger purchase of Prof. Will’s collection of 16th century books mainly on France. The papers consist of some correspondence and a few manuscripts and other personal papers. By far the bulk of the Fonds consist of card files compiled during the many years he researched Protestantism in France in particular and French literature in general. Unfortunately, the original arrangement of these card files was disturbed and some cards are not in any apparent order. Apart from the manuscript for what appears to be the first four chapters of the unpublished Volume I, no other manuscripts for Prof. Will’s other works are contained within this accession.
