Series 1: Books
Jim Szakacs collected an incredible number of books on Hollywood celebrities and movie production from the golden and silver age of Hollywood. Book series with the collection includes “The films of…” a collection of books that detail the film history of the actor or actress. Also, in the first series includes the book collection “What ever became of…” the stories of what happened after a celebrity loses their fame or retires from show business.
Series 2: Vintage Magazines
The second series contains the collections of vintage magazines that retells the stories and news of the Hollywood celebrity stars on their roles in Hollywood and their lives. Szakacs collected publications mainly from the United States that focused on the Hollywood stars from the late 1940s to the 1980s. Publications includes “Motion Picture Herald” started off as the “Exhibitors Herald”; “Who’s Who’s in Hollywood”; “Modern Screen”; “Screen Stories”; “Hollywood studio Magazine”; “Hollywood then & now”; “American Classic Screen”; and “Photoplay”. There is also an international magazine from Swedish magazine “Fiskejournalen”. Most of the vintage magazines are in good condition, however, there are a few that will have images of the celebrities cut out. As the magazines that were collected by Szakacs was also as materials to be placed in his collection of scrapbooks.
Series 3: Press Clippings
The third series is a collection of press clippings that Jim Szakacs collected over the many decades. Articles from American publishers and international publishers. Press clippings come from vintage news articles from the 1930s to as recent as of 2019. The various clippings chosen by Szakacs from magazines covers, newspapers, articles, and marketing advertisements from various Hollywood stars. A few of the clippings he collected for the scrapbook do contain nudity.
Series 4: Stills
The fourth series contains Szakacs collection of celebrity portraits. Many of the photographs in the collection are reprints and reproduction of the original. Hollywood stars included in the collection are George Segal, Elizabeth Taylor, Sean Connery, Valerie Harper, James Hill, Virginia McKenna, Roland Winters, Rick Vallin, and other Hollywood celebrities.
Series 5: Scrapbooks
The fifth series is a collection of Jim Szakacs’s Scrapbooks. Szakacs was an avid scrapbooker, who would dedicate his scrapbooks to various stars and films. Jim Szakacs’ hand-made collection of celebrity obituary scrapbooks, all oversized ring binding scrapbooks that hold a collection of clippings, collages, stills, articles, and obituaries that he sourced and compiled over decades. Szakacs dedicates entire pages to chronicling the careers of prominent film stars, musicians, and public figures. Figures he collected include Dame Vera Lynn; Ian Holm; Joel Schumacher; Linda Cristal; Carl Reiner; Hugh Downs; and others. He dedicated obituary scrapbooks on Rock Hudson, Clark Gable, and Marilyn Monroe. The clippings he sourced were from vintage magazines from 1917 to the modern-day articles and posters from 2015.

Fonds consists of records documenting the professional and personal life of analytic philosopher and professor, Ian Hacking. Records primarily focus on the academic and publishing activity of Hacking from the early 1980s to 2010. The material reflects the broad and diverse interests of Hacking in his work, as well as his exchange with scholars in diverse fields. Records include correspondence, manuscripts and drafts of written works, reprints, lecture notes, and extensive subject files. Additionally, correspondence, press clippings, and photographs chronicle Hacking’s professional and academic achievements.

Fonds also documents aspects of Hacking’s personal and family life. These include his diaries and notebooks, birth and marriage certificates, drawings by his children, family snapshots, as well as correspondence, photographs, and copies of records from the Hacking and MacDougall families.

Fonds consists of correspondence, subject files, course material, research records, and conference and publication files documenting the life and career of Prof. Roxana Ng, professor at OISE and community activist. Fonds also includes administrative material from OISE, in particular from AECP (Adult Education and Counselling Psychology) Department, the AECD (Adult Education and Community Development Program), CIARS (Centre for Integrative Anti-Racism Studies), and the CWSE (Centre for Women’s Studies in Education).

Further personal records of Michael Bliss, Professor Emeritus of History, consisting of personal and family correspondence, and photographs; other correspondence; scrapbooks; interviews; files relating to the University of Toronto, including memorabilia from his years as a senior fellow on the Massey College; addresses; drafts of articles, a play, books (including biographies of Sir William Osler and Harvey Cushing, and Bliss’ memoirs), short stories and book reviews; files on consulting and editing projects; files on professional organizations, especially the American Osler Society.

Personal and biographical

Series consists of textual records and graphic material documenting Ian Hacking’s personal life and career, with eight files related to the histories of both the Hacking and MacDougall families. Records include a passport, birth and marriage certificates, family snapshots, drawings by his children, as well as correspondence detailing financial contributions made to various charities and initiatives. Hacking’s professional and academic activity is reflected in written and photographic documentation of awards and honours received, including the Killam Prize for the Humanities, the Companion to the Order of Canada, and the Holberg International Memorial Prize. Also included in the series is an autobiographical document written by Hacking detailing the orientation of his research.

Digital files consist of files documenting his personal life and family [“BUSYNESS”], a folder of biographical information and curriculum vitae, further documentation about the Holberg Prize, and drafts of writings by Judith Baker titled “Trust and Commitment” and “Some Aspects of Reasons and Rationality”.

The archive of celebrated Canadian film director-producer Norman Jewison contains photographs and publicity materials, papers and correspondence, shooting scripts and schedules primarily for films directed or produced by Jewison between the years 1975 and 2003. Materials related to the films Fiddler on the Roof, …And Justice for All, A Soldier’s Story, Moonstruck, The Hurricane, The Statement and others undertaken by Jewison are held in this collection.

Series consists of compositions and arrangements by Phil Nimmons, written early in his career before he formed his own group in 1953. Series includes charts for the Ray Norris Quintette, of which Nimmons was a member.

Music for other ensembles

Series consists of music written or arranged by Phil Nimmons for ensembles, including the 1957 overtures for the "Music for a Summer Day" festival at Stratford Festival and music for the duo Pendulum, the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, the Ted Kemar Band, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Music at Sharon, and Esprit Orchestra.

Music for Nimmons 'N' Nine Plus Six

Series consists of music written and arranged for Nimmons 'N' Nine Plus Six. This expanded version of Nimmons 'N' Nine was formed in 1965, reorganized in 1974, and disbanded in the early 1980s. Most of the music was written by Phil Nimmons with a few contributions from other members of the ensemble.

Music for Nimmons 'N' Nine

Series consists of music composed or arranged for "The Group," later named "Nimmons 'N' Nine." Most of the charts are written by Phil Nimmons, with a few contributions from other members of the ensemble. Nimmons formed this group in 1953 and they performed regularly on CBC radio. They made their concert debut in 1956 at the Summer Festival in Stratford. In 1965, the ensemble expanded to "Nimmons 'N' Nine Plus Six."

Series consists of incidental music for orchestra and music for jazz ensemble that Phil Nimmons composed, arranged, and orchestrated for various radio and television programs, predominantly for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC).
