File consists of the Catholic Press Association Journalism Award for Best Treatment on Prayer, which Nouwen received for his article “Unceasing Prayer” in America magazine, and one letter from Joseph A. O’ Hare, editor of America, notifying Nouwen of the award.

Catholic Relief Services - March 29, 1984

File consists of correspondence and other material regarding Nouwen leading a spiritual reflection for a gathering of several U.S. Christian Relief Organizations in New York City. Includes the letter of invitation and copies of several Catholic Relief publications related to Central and South America.

Catholic Students Association at Yale Divinity School

File consists of correspondence, updates, newsletters and lists of Roman Catholic students related to the student organization, Catholic Students Association at Yale Divinity School. It appears Nouwen was a patron of the organization and requested that he be kept informed of any developments in the organization. It also seems he donated a piece of work: "The Spiritual Director: A Practical Guide" by Damien Isabell, to the organization, so they could distribute it to all the Roman Catholic students at Yale Divinity School. The majority of materials refer to the academic year of 1979. Prominent members of the organization included David Lamarre-Vincent, Nancy Heslin, and George Noonan.

Catholic Theological Union - June 2, 1994

File consists of correspondence and other material, regarding Nouwen's acceptance of an Honourary Doctorate in Theology and his agreement to give the commencement address at the Catholic Theology Union in Chicago, Illinois. Includes 8 pages from the May 13, 1994 issue of the National Catholic Reporter, a copy of a press release about Nouwen, and a copy of Nouwen's travel itinerary and expenses. Also includes Nouwen's handwritten notes for the commencement.

Catholic Times (Wojcicki)

File consists of business correspondence between Nouwen and Ed Wojcicki, editor of Catholic Times between 1987 and 1991. In 1986 Wojcicki began an Advent tradition of writing an open letter to Nouwen through his column, "Editor's Looking Glass". In addition to copies of the article, the file contains Wojcicki's letters, often containing responses to Nouwen's books. Business documents include drafts of a foreword written by Nouwen for Wojcicki's book: A Crisis of Hope.

Includes detailed minutes taken at Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Toronto's Executive Directors' Council Meeting on November 21, 1990 that include Nouwen's speech, "A Spiritual Life in this World," and an evaluation summary from the event. Also includes a letter from Nouwen to Kenny thanking him for the invitation.

Celebration

Celebration 25 - Christian Counselling Services - February 4, 1992

File consists of correspondence, with William Cooke, and other material regarding Nouwen's address given at the 25th anniversary of the Christian Counselling Service, Hart House Theatre, University of Toronto. Includes two typescript copies of Nouwen's address "A Time to Mourn, A Time to Dance: A Celebration of the Spirit in Healing." Also includes a program, music, notes in Nouwen's hand. A tape and transcript of the event were sent to Nouwen by William Cooke.

Centre for Social Concerns - March 19 - 22, 1992

File consists of correspondence, mainly with Joe Vorstermans, and other material regarding Nouwen speaking at the L'Arche and Emmaus communities weekend, Centre for Social Concerns, University of Notre Dame. Nouwen spoke on "God's Love Experienced in Community." Includes extensive handwritten notes by Nouwen. Also includes information sheets and flyers from the event, and a brochure for the Centre for Social Concerns.

Certificate of registration to perform marriages

File consists of Nouwen’s Certificate of Registration from the Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations authorizing him to legally perform marriages in the Province of Ontario; including material relating to the Marriage Act of the Government of Ontario.

Includes Nouwen schedule for the conference and a copy of "A New Vision for a New Day" by Donald Harlin, April 1992. Also includes a time zone conversion chart and a directory of the USAF Chaplain Service.

Chautauqua, New York - July 13 - 17, 1992

File consists of correspondence, mainly with Penny Austin, and other material regarding Nouwen giving a lecture at the Chautauqua Institution, Chautauqua, New York. Nouwen was planning to bring two members of Daybreak with him. Nouwen became ill and was unable to give his lecture "The Life of the Beloved, in his place Sue Mosteller spoke on spiritual life and ministry to the physically and mentally handicapped. Includes flyers, brochures, pamphlets, postcards, forms, and information sheets from the Chautauqua Institute.

Cheque and deposit books

File consists of cheque and deposit books for some of Nouwen's bank accounts. Includes Nouwen's used cheque books with carbon copies from October 1989 to September 1996 for his Bank of Montreal Canadian funds account and from October 1994 to May 1996 for his Bank of Montreal US funds account. Includes deposit books for two of Nouwen's Bank of Montreal accounts from January 1987 to August 1995. Also includes a bank cheque record book from Nouwen's Connecticut Bank and Trust account from January 1993 to July 1995.

Chicago - Bob Ferrigan - April 27, 1981

File consists of correspondence and other material, from Bob Ferrigan and Rev. James P. Roache, regarding Nouwen's role as featured speaker at the Presbyterial Day of the Presbyterial Senate of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Includes Nouwen's handwritten notes for the talk as well as a copy of the transcript for the talk given by Nouwen "Priest as Person: A Theological Reflection on the Chicago Experience." The transcript was forwarded by Rev. Roache. Includes letters between Connie and Hardin making the arrangements for Nouwen's trip to Chicago. Includes Chicago Sunday Evening Club Annual Report 1989-90, newsletters, travel itinerary, airline tickets, and a speaker's information brochure. Includes a photograph of Don O'Neill who picked Nouwen up from the airport. Also includes a letter from Nouwen reflecting on his performance. A videocassette of his performance was sent to Nouwen by Hardin.

File consists of correspondence and other material regarding Nouwen speaking at the Thornhill United Church, Lenten Ecumenical Services 1993 in Thornhill, Ontario. The theme of the series was "Christianity Today: Standing Together in a Pluralistic Society." Includes series schedule, flyers, and directions.

Christ the Redeemer

File consists of 1 slide featuring an icon by Andrei Rublev, titled "Christ the Redeemer" or "Le Sauveur" ["The Saviour"]. The icon features Jesus Christ. The actual icon is damaged, and was a fresco, possibly painted by Rublev in the 1420s for one of Zvenigorod cathedrals. The icon is now located in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, Russia.

Christian Associates of Southwest Pennsylvania

File consists of correspondence with the Reverend Ronald P. Lengwin, Director of Communications, on behalf of the Christian Associates of Southwest Pennsylvania. Reverend Lengwin is a Catholic priest that hosts a telephone talk show on the radio, and was inviting Nouwen to speak on the show (he indicates that his invitation had been declined once before), in letter from September 17, 1979. Letter from October 10, 1979, is from Lengwin, and is confirming that Nouwen will appear on the telephone talk show on December 2 from 7-9 p.m. He asks Nouwen to provide him with 5 to 10 questions that would help get the interview started. In letter from December 3, 1979, Lengwin expresses appreciation to Nouwen and John Mogabgab for their participation in the program on December 2.

Christian Conference of Connecticut - October 13, 1993

File consists of correspondence, with Rev. Stephen Sidorak Jr., and other material regarding Nouwen's participation as a speaker at the Archbishop John F. Whealon Memorial Lecture Series for the Christian Conference of Connecticut. The event took place at the Saint Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield, Connecticut. Nouwen attended the event with Bill Van Buren. Includes travel arrangements and copies of cheques for honorarium and travel expanses. Also includes a list of people requesting a copy of the Return of the Prodigal Son poster and details for acquiring the poster.
