North Toronto Collegiate Institute

Series contains records and notebooks documenting Turner's secondary education at North Toronto Collegiate Institute. Content includes a notebook for every class completed in Forms 1-5, as well as donation information, teacher lists, and yearbook photos.

First form

Series contains a notebook for each subject taken by Turner in First Form (1G) at North Toronto Collegiate Institute.

Certificates

Series contains educational certificates, including certificates for passing entrance exams, grade promotion certificates, graduation certificates, teaching certifications, and grade reports.

Rosa Deroche

File contains a Second Class teaching certificate dated 7 May 1861, qualifying Rosa Deroche to teach in the United counties of Frontenac and Lennox and Addington.

File also contains a brief biography of Rosa Deroche and two letters from the donor.

Isabella Campbell

File contains an application for a teaching position submitted by Isabella Campbell to the trustees of the Watford Public School in 1874.

Letter by a School Master

File contains a letter written by a school master in 1826 describing the troubles of early school life.

File also contains a transcription of the letter created in 1957.

Norman Found

Files contain graded high school examination papers written by Norman Found circa 1910. These papers cover all subjects and Forms.

Communicating Together

This subseries contains volumes of Communicating Together, a quarterly magazine published between 1982 and 2001. The magazine shared the experiences and communication systems of non-speaking people with their families, communities and professionals who worked with them. Each issue had a guest editor and included articles written by individuals who used Blissymbolics. Throughout the years, the magazine was published by a variety of publishers across Southern Ontario, and was briefly hosted online in the early 2000s. Between 1991-2001 the magazine was published by Sharing to Learn, a now defunct organization which was created to publish the magazine.

Annual Reports & Meeting Minutes

This subseries contains annual reports, final reports, and miscellaneous meeting minutes from Blissymbolics Communication Institute - Canada. The bulk of the material is from the earliest years of the Bliss Project when it took place at the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, the then Ontario Crippled Children's Centre.

Slides

This subseries contains slides depicting Blissymbol instructional materials, BCI history, and student and teacher photographs, as well as associated textual and object materials.

[Donation acquisition]

File contains correspondence between Vernon Turner and Jeanette Shmidt (Librarian For Public Services, OISE) regarding the donation process and Turner's notes on the collection.

English

File contains one combined notebook for Form 1 English & Library classes. The structure of the notebook consists of cardboard covers that hold loose leaf pages. Tabs divide content into different units of writing composition and reading.

Correspondence

Series contains four files of correspondence related to the railway car schools. This correspondence includes letters between the Canadian National Railways, the Ontario Department of Education, and individual car school teachers, as well as internal interdepartmental correspondence. This correspondence addresses topics such as the establishment, management, and operation of the railway car schools.

Minutes of National Committee

File consist of two bound volumes containing meeting minutes from meetings held by the national committee for the Farm Radio Forum. The first volume contains minutes from 1942-1950 and the second from 1950-1953.

Farm Radio Forum Books

Subseries consists of Farm Radio Forum records that had been compiled for research purposes, as well as additional handwritten research notes. These records and notes had been stored in binders and arranged by the creator into five "books" according to year.

1961-1962 Season

File contains a scrapbook with newspaper and magazine articles related to the Canadian Farm Radio Forum dating from 1961 and 1962.

File also contains several folders of loose articles that had been tucked into the scrapbook. These articles date primarily from 1960-1965, although there are a few articles from 1944-1945 as well.
