May Convocation - Honorary Degree Recipient's Speech

Contains two emails, a cover page, and two versions of a speech delivered by Justice Peter Jamadar, Caribbean Court of Justice, at the May 11 Convocation. The speech is titled, "Of Intersections, Awe, and Wonder: The Thrust of Transcendence." Jamadar graduated with an MDiv from Emmanuel in 1997 and was awarded an honorary doctorate at this event.

The short version of the speech was delivered at the event. The longer version is for additional "texture and nuance that more completely expresses what I am trying to share, and how the multi-faith values of Emmanuel have influenced me."

Fonds consists of the records of the Registrar and Associate Registrar, primarily relating to Victoria College students and student records as well as awards, prizes and scholarships, convocations, registration procedures, baccalaureate services, receptions, counselling, etc. Fonds also consists of material related to the Registrar's work with the Senate. Records include correspondence, annual reports, as well as ephemera and photographs.

Records related to buildings and grounds

The Bursar's responsibilities with regard to property were initially the insurance of buildings and their contents. However, as the need for regular income became more urgent and evident, and as the University expanded and required more buildings, the Bursar's work likewise increased. The Bursar became responsible for the legal negotiations and accounting over purchases, sales and leases; and the supervision and funding of alterations and renovations and the construction of new buildings. Along with this, the Bursar dealt with property tax as the University was only exempt from this in respect to its property used for academic purposes.

Series consists of correspondence, studies, reports, appraisals, financial administration, agreements, plans, specifications and other records relating to the planning, expansion, renovating, maintenance, repair and construction work on campus buildings and grounds, as well as the establishment and funding of Victoria Theatre, the Isabel Bader Theatre, and the Vic Tennis Club.

The records related to the Vic Tennis Club are available in sub-series 1.
The architectural drawings and plans are available in series 23.

Records relating to functions

Series consists of correspondence, minutes, citations, addresses and other records, 1913-2022, relating to functions and events such as public lectures including the Davey Lectures and Ide Lectures, convocations and honorary degree ceremonies, centenary celebrations, honorary dinners, openings, events held at the Bader Theatre, and installations of Principals, Presidents and Chancellors.

Ephemera

Contains printed ephemera including programs, brochures, event announcements, forms, and more. Includes material from the VWA as well as its predecessor organizations.

Programs

Includes published annual programs of events that list the upcoming events, speakers, and topics. Covers the years 2000 to 2022, but all duplicates have been removed.

Also contains records received by the Board including correspondence and reports and records related to arbitration related to the move from Cobourg to Toronto.

Minutes and related records of the Board of Regents

Sub-series consists of the minutes and related records of the Board of Regents of Victoria University. In the earlier records, university federation is a dominant subject as well as the move from Cobourg to Toronto . Also included are the minutes of other committees, including the executive committee, and a building committee concerned with women's residences, and minutes of a special meeting concerning the University Bill.

Currently the Board of Regents meets four times a year, which includes a Strategy Day
