Menus types included placemat menus, single sheet menus, trifold and four fold menus, five fold, seven fold and menus in booklet style. Some menus are laminated while others are in vinyl enclosures. Menus range from take away and delivery, to eat in and include wine lists, menus for cafes, breakfast menus and menus for cafeteria lunches.

The material is divided into Series 1 Menus. The series is divided into 6 subseries: Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania and South America.

Series includes objects related to food and various restaurant souvenirs collected by Harley Spiller. Types of objects include handmade artifacts and art or sculpture, matchbooks and matchboxes, postcards and other cards, promotional recipe booklets, image reprints from newspapers, various forms of restaurant and event souvenirs, various tableware, and toys and music related to Chinese food.

Kurumbasiddy Era Kanagaratnam collection

The Kurumbasiddy Era Kanagaratnam collection consists of the lifework of Mr. R. Kanagaratnam who collected Tamil and English newspaper clippings and manuscripts related to political and cultural affairs of Eelam Tamils for almost six decades under the institutional name of the International Tamil Archives.

Kanagratnam’s collections document more than a hundred years of Tamil polity, starting from 1889 to December 2013. Although the main part of his collections is newspaper clippings, there are also published and unpublished articles related to social and cultural heritage of the nation of Eelam Tamils. 

Newspaper clippings from Morning Star, The Hindu Organ, Eezhakeasari (1930 to 1957), Veerakeasari, Chuthanthiran (since 1952), The Daily News, Sun, Saturday Review (full volume), Eezha-Naadu, Chari-nikar (full volume), Tribune (full volume), Thisai (full volume), Thina-murasu (from 1st issue to 2002), Dhiniapathi, Sunday Times, Sunday Observer, Thinakkural, Chinthaa-ma’ni, Island, Chudar-o’li and Hotspring are some of the collections in the International Tamil Archives. His collections also include 10,000 published and unpublished articles, manuscripts, and around 10,000 cartoons. 

The collection is divided into two series:

Series contains newspapers and textual records such as Ceylon Patriot, Hindu Organ, Sansoni Commission Evidence, Sutantiran, Thainadu, Congress, Eelakesari, Kesari, The Independent, Thina Murasu, Sari Negar, Viduthalai, Tribune, Elath Thamilar Varalalu (or Waralaru), and Tamil Culture. Some reels contain miscellaneous articles or articles that have been organized by theme.

North America

Lacquer tiffin boxes

Black lacquer boxes with a floral painted pattern. Contains a note from Spiller with the following information: tiffin boxes were collected by a woman who attended the tiffin in honour of Chinese viceroy Li Hung Chung, possibly on the West coast. Tiffins contain dried coconut, watermelon seeds, and preserved bird's nest.

Asia

The subseries includes menus from China, (Beijing, Hangzhou, and Shanghai), Hong Kong (Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China), Egypt, Guam (United States), India, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan (Republic of China), Tibet (Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China), Thailand, Turkey and Vietnam. Menus feature Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Indonesia, Italian, European, Russian, American, vegetarian and seafood cuisine.

The subseries comprises countries from the following areas: Eastern Asia, South-East Asia and Western Asia and Middle East.

Hong Kong and Tibet have been treated as separate geographical areas for retrieval purposes.

Although part of Russia is found on the Asian continent, all menus from Russia are found in the Europe subseries.
