The fonds serves as a representative sample of the activities carried out, and the relationships engendered, during A.F.W. Plumptre's tenure as principal of Scarborough College from 1965 to 1972. Both official papers and personal documents are included. Official documents include: reports, correspondence, transcripts of speeches, and seating plans. Personal documents include: invitations, cards, photograph albums, clippings, publications, books, and artifacts.

Appointment to Principal

File includes a letter from University of Toronto President Claude Bissell to Plumptre indicating that the board of governors has voted in favour of his nomination, a telegram from Plumptre to his wife stating that the board has approved his election, and several clippings regarding the election.

University records

File includes several documents produced by or for Plumptre during his tenure as principal: Scarborough College Council opening meeting speech, thank-you letter from V.W. Bladen, finance and policy report for 1965-1966, formal opening of Scarborough College speech, seating plan for formal opening dinner, seating plan for board of governors dinner, 1969 progress report to the Senate, and certificate of honorary college membership. Also includes two copies of registration guidelines (n.d., c. 1970).

Invitations

File includes four invitations: formal opening of Scarborough College (4 October 1966); reception for opening of exhibition of sculpture by Sorel Etrog (6 October, no year); retirement of A.F.W. Plumptre (25 April 1972); reception for graduating class (9 May 1972).

Cards

File includes three cards: a thank-you note from Frank and Lilian Harbutt (1968), a retirement card from the Physical Services Department, and a retirement card from "Catherine (alias Christine)".

Photo album: Scarborough College 1965-1972

File includes 39 black & white photos depicting Scarborough College while Plumptre was principal, 1965 to 1972. The first page includes the following dedication: "Scarborough College 1965-1972. dedicated to: Mr. & Mrs. A.F.W. Plumptre on their retirement from the College 1972. with sincere best wishes The Graphics & Photography Department". None of the photos have annotations.

Photo album: The Athletes [1/2]

File includes 27 black & white and 17 colour photos depicting student athletes at UTSC, as well as a letter from "The Athletes" thanking Principal Plumptre for his support, an article on UTSC architecture, and an unattributed drawing. Photos include athletic banquets, team photos, and action photos. Album given to Principal Plumptre on his retirement.

Photo album: Graduation Ball and Decennial Celebration

File includes 27 colour photos depicting students and faculty attending the Graduation Ball and Dicennial Celebration (exact date unknown). Also included are two letters regarding the celebration, the first from D.B. Allen to A.F.W. Plumptre and the second from D.B. Allen to Plumptre's successor, D.R. Campbell.

Clippings

File includes clippings regarding the opening of the college, its architecture, Plumptre's appointment and retirement, as well as articles written by Plumptre.

Magazines

File includes two magazines: The Architectural Forum (May 1966); artscanada (August/September 1967). Both magazines depict Scarborough College on their front covers and include extensive articles on the architecture of the college.

File includes copies of ten responses to letters sent by Tomorrow to various dignitaries and persons of import, including Jacqueline Kennedy and the President of the United States as well as various magazine editors.

Photographs

File includes four undated photographs: photographs of a painting highly stylized photo of a boy, presumably Todorow; photograph of a photo of Todorow in an unidentified car; photograph of a photo of Todorow in his 1950 MG; photograph of a photo of two women in Todorow's 1950 MG. Also included is Todorow's Motor Vehicle Liability Insurance Card for his 1950 MG and a 1973 Mercedes, as well as a leather license holder.
