Hanslick was the focus of Payzant's later research, which resulted in two books (published 1986 and 1991), several articles, and various lectures. The fonds consists of the research used in these writings, as well as a typescript manuscript of Payzant's translation of On the musically beautiful: a contribution towards the revision of the aesthetics of music (1986), and copies of his lectures, also titled "On the musically beautiful." The correspondence includes copies of letters between Hanslick and Robert Zimmermann (1824-1898), as well as correspondence between Payzant and other scholars about Hanslick, and correspondence between Payzant and Dietmar Strauß.

Contains drafts, manuscripts, correspondence and other material pertaining to the life, education, poetry and published work of Jay MillAr (1971-). The collection also includes his involvement and interaction with the Toronto experimental poetry community and other poets and writers, notably Brian T. Francis, John Barlow, Rob Ruzic and Rob McLennan. In addition, the collection also includes publications, correspondence and manuscript material from the two literary presses – Boondoggle Books (1992-1997) and BookThug (1997-) – that he founded and operates.

Collection includes letters and postcards addressed to Lilian Wetstein Mendelssohn from Anne, Gertrude and Horace Traubel. Horace Traubel (1858-1919) was Walt Whitman’s literary executor, as well as a poet, essayist and magazine publisher. Horace and his wife Anne (1864-1954) cultivated groups of artistic and cultural individuals, as well as those that supported the beliefs of Walt Whitman, of which Lilian Mendelssohn, who resided in Montreal was one. Lilian Wetstein corresponded with Horace Traubel and participated in meetings before her marriage to Sam Mendelssohn. She later kept in contact with Horace Traubel’s widow, Anne, as well as his daughter, Gertrude. The collection also contains a small amount of material, primarily Christmas cards, with other members of Traubel’s circle.

The gift includes personal documents, photographs, a few DP camp periodicals, scripts for plays, and poems.

Contains 13 photographs, of various Ukrainian-Canadian groups, events, and organizations from Ontario and Quebec.

Collection consists of detailed letters written by Kathleen ‘Doy’ Stewart, primarily to her parents, with some letters written to her brothers and friends, while traveling in Europe from October 1928 to August 1929, with her friend Kathleen Sutton. During the trip, Stewart stayed in Paris from October 1928 to March 1929, before visiting the South of France and Italy, and then staying in Heidelberg from May to July 1929. After Heidelberg, Stewart traveled through Germany, Netherlands and Belgium before returning to Paris at the end of August 1929 to journey back to Canada. Collection contains a small amount of letters written by Kathleen Sutton and letters that were written jointly by Kathleen Stewart and Kathleen Sutton. Papers also includes two letters from a subsequent trip, where she visited Romania and Yugoslavia, in 1932.

Fonds consists of records documenting the professional and personal life of physician, researcher, and professor, Dr. Andrew Baines. Records primarily focus on his involvement with Indigenous-focused programs and services between the early 1980s and 1998 including the University of Toronto’s Aboriginal Health Professions Program, Office of Aboriginal Student Services and Programs, and the Sioux Lookout Program. Records also document his early life and career, employment at U of T, research and publications, teaching, and his work related to the Stowe-Gullen Stream of the Vic One program. Materials include a CV, correspondence, manuscripts and drafts of publications, syllabi, lecture notes, reference materials, meeting minutes and agendas, reports, project proposals, program statistics, budgets, news clippings, and personal notes.

Fonds consists of research compiled by Grant for her book, A Meeting of Minds: The Massey College Story (Toronto: University of Toronto Press, 2015), documenting the history of Massey College from its inception in 1962-63 through to 2013. Includes interview recordings, interview transcripts, extensive research files (chronologically, 1959-2017; and by subject), correspondence, publishing files, and manuscript drafts. Interviewees include many prominent members of the University of Toronto and Massey College community including Robertson Davies, Claude Bissell, John Evans, John Fraser, Ann Saddlemyer, (J.N.) Patterson Hume, Vincent Tovell, Geoffrey Massey, and Ed Safarian, amongst others.

Collection of materials related to the life and work of Argentinian designer and illustrator Víctor Viano. Includes books, book covers, pre-print paste-ups and negatives, logos, drawings, paintings, posters, cards, brochures, cards, catalogues, and some additional ephemera including a photograph, a newspaper clipping, posters for exhibitions, a pamphlet featuring his work, and a mounted printing plate with one of his designs. The collection documents Viano’s design process from an initial drawing for a book cover or a logo to the finished product and his artistic production and work in commercial and editorial design in Argentina, Venezuela, and Spain between 1958 and 1988.

Included in this small fonds is biographical data, citations, passports, clippings and other memorabilia. Also included are two notebooks compiled by Alice Lindsay. These are interleaved with correspondence and notes on the Chinese way of life. One note book is mainly Chinese sayings.

This accession also includes a two part photo album/scrapbook of the Lindsay’s trip through South East Asia and Europe to Canada in 1927. There are also photographs documenting their family, friends and colleagues.

Finally this accession includes an embroidered and weaved Chinese wall hanging as well as two sets of dinner place card holders showing Chinese life scenes. One set is made of Chinese paper cut work and a second set are pop up cards.

Records in this fonds consist mainly of film and video documenting many of the projects developed within the DPG by Prof. Ron Baecker as well as with colleagues and graduate students. Included are film reels collected and exhibited for the 20th anniversary and incorporated into the video Dynamic Image. These document very early projects such as Baecker’s Genesys: Computer Animation System (MIT, 1969), Leslie Mezei’s Art of Computers (1971), George Olshevski‘s Regular 4D Polytopes (ca. 1971). A poster from this event is also included. Videos demonstrate many of the technologically advance graphic works done by the DPG lab under Baecker’s directorship including, to list a few, CaveCat, Telepresence Ontario, MAD (Movie Authoring Design) and Apple Design Competition 1993 (Globall).

There is also one box of textual records documenting to limited degree other areas of Baecker’s career including TAGlab, Knowledge Media Design Institute and NECTAR – network for Effective Collaboration Technologies through Advanced Research. There is also a series of portraits done of Baecker in 1987 as well as an album documenting the work of the Telepresence Ontario Project.

Includes the personal and professional records of Elizabeth Brady (written as ‘EB’ throughout the finding aid). Personal material contains correspondence with friends and family spanning her childhood and young adulthood, as well as records pertaining to her education, notably yearbooks, transcripts, degrees and notes. Also includes correspondence with notable Canadian writers, including Anne Cameron (also known as Barbara Cameron/Cam Hubert) and Marian Engel.

Her professional records encompass her career as an editor, with Fireweed and Canadian Woman Studies, as well as a free-lance writer and novelist. There is material relating to all major writing projects, both published and unpublished, including poetry, articles, reviews, academic writing and novels. There are numerous drafts and revisions for two unpublished novels – Blue Notes and Present Fears, as well as two academic books – Barfly and Women and Solitude. Brady’s three published mystery novels are also well documented including notes, early drafts, research and correspondence.

Fonds consists of records that pertain to the career of Canadian conductor Victor Feldbrill, including his conductor's scores for Canadian compositions (many of which he premiered), including his annotations and corrections, and composers' autographs. Fonds also includes audio recordings of performances that Feldbrill conducted, including many premiere performances of Canadian compositions, spanning Feldbrill's entire career conducting various orchestras in Canada and abroad.

This collection demonstrates the scope and practice of operating an antiquarian bookseller’s establishment both before and during the use of computerized orders, payments, and catalogue creation. In particular, it deals with Patrick McGahern Books in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, also known as both The Book Boutique and Patrick and Liam McGahern Books. The collection contains business records,financial records, book orders, correspondence, memorabilia, a card catalogue, and bookseller’s catalogue proofs, masters, and prints related to the operation of Patrick McGahern Books.It also contains a moderate collection of nineteenth and twentieth-century bookseller’s catalogues either collected or used by Patrick and Liam McGahern.

Includes personal and professional correspondence; personal photographs; official documents; receipts and invoices; typescript drafts of books; newspaper articles, passports, cultural and political pursuits. Various highlighted items in his collection include many interesting photographs documenting the May Day Rallies of 1933-4 in Hamilton, Ontario-suggesting that he had an active role in organizing these demonstrations. There are also a number of newspaper clippings (primarily from The Daily Colonist (Victoria, B.C.), documenting such issues as communism, the war in Vietnam, Cyprus, various actions taken by the Canadian Government, and celebrities such as Marilyn Munroe and Princess Diana. A series of postcards document a trip taken by Sam Lawrence across Europe in 1936. Also featured is a collection of photographs of Lenin from 1897-1917 from a book of photographs entitled “Lenin” edited by Vladimir Il’ich and a collection of postcards documenting the Third Congress of Komintern in Russia, 1919. Lastly, there are two typescript books dedicated to Morisse and written by Georgoula Beikos entitled “The Greece That Fights: A Collection of Articles in Russian”, and a book of poems written by political prisoners on the Cypriot island of Gioura after the Greek civil war from 1945-1949.

Contains correspondence, postcards and travel and academic photographs, travel diaries, family research, as well as scholarly research and lectures.

The collection consists of specimens of printed and lithographed Canadian beer labels from a variety of breweries across the country. Lithographers include Barclay & Clark Co., Standard Litho Co., and Rolph Clark Stone Ltd.

A collection of over 1000 examples of gay, male fiction, including books by prominent gay authors and works dealing with male homosexuality. Some non-fiction books are included in the collection. The books are in mass-market paperback editions, issued mostly by US publishers, with a few Canadian imprints, and were published between 1933 and 1995. Authors represented include John Rechy, Christopher Isherwood, Gore Vidal, James Baldwin, James Purdy, William S. Burroughs, Richard Amory, Carl Corley, Aaron Travis, Jay Greene, Phil Andros, Jack Evans, Clay Caldwell, and Paul Gronowski. Series represented in the collection include Pleasure Readers, Greenleaf Classics, HIS69, Rough Trade, Frenchy's Gay Line, Badboy, Blueboy Library, and Gay Parisian Press. Cover art is often unsigned, but includes work by Carl Corley, Harry Schaare, Frank Kelly Freas, and Tom of Finland.
