This file contains materials from the process of creating "A Tetrad: Measuring McLuhan's Impact," a chapbook honouring Marshall McLuhan, "a St. Michael’s professor who rattled the world with his take on the influence of media and technology. The chapbook is both a digital and a hand-printed instance of McLuhan’s tetrad concept.

Master Printer Deborah Barnett, in collaboriation with Archivist Simon Rogers, printed the chapbook in the Kelly Library Print Studio in January 2019, while Conservation Manager Natasa Krsmanovic planned and facilitated the sewing.

The chapbook comes in two numbered editions: a pamphlet-stitched version of 125 copies and a Coptic-bound version in a run of 25. Both editions are letterpress printed from plates on 100% cotton paper and are die cut and hand sewn. The file contains samples of both and more.

Item consists of one poster advertising "An Evening of Reflections with Henri Nouwen", which took place on November 11, 1993 at Saint James Church (New York, NY). Two copies of the poster are autographed by Nouwen.

File consists of 23 typed pages of a lecture titled "From Magic to Faith," which discusses the religious development of individuals from childhood to adulthood from a psychological perspective. The lecture was most likely presented in Nouwen's "summer school" course Psychology 121: "Special Topics" : Psychology of Religion in 1967. Student assignments for the summer school course mention their interest of the psychological development of individuals from infancy through adulthood.

McLuhan’s central role in the rise of the Toronto School of Communication is presented through artifacts, audio, texts, video and photographs selected from archival repositories across the University of Toronto and the Federated Colleges of St. Michael’s, Trinity and Victoria.

The exhibition features items drawn from the Special Collections and holdings at St. Michael’s, including material from the Sheila and Wilfred Watson archives, Donald Theall papers and Marshall McLuhan collection. Rare and intimate examples on display include McLuhan’s correspondence and collaborations with friends and colleagues on campus such as Claude Bissell, Tom Easterbrook, Carl Williams, Harold Innis, Edmund Carpenter and Northrop Frye.
