Contains a wide range of record from the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education, including Department of Athletics and Recreation Committee meeting minutes, Council of Athletics and Recreation meeting minutes, FKPE publications, athletics media guides and brochures, Varsity Stadium and Varsity Centre development plans, event and award files, Task Force Report Equal Opportunities records, Task Force Focus on the Future records, and project material for the Goldring Centre for High Performance Sports.

Eighteen binders of slides, photographs, contact sheets document men's and women's intramural and intercollegiate sports from 1979-1986. Approx. 50 team portraits document the Varsity Hockey and Football teams through the 1950s and early 1960s. Also included are a few portraits of early Varsity teams from the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s.
Also includes three films that were used as teaching tools in the Faculty as well as a copy the NFB film Runner, a documentary on Canadian runner Bruce Kidd.

A2004-0020 represents a large accession of material from the Faculty of Physical Education and Health. The vast majority of the records in this accession are from co-curricular activities carried out by the Faculty. While not physically arranged according to function or subject, the records have been intellectually arranged according to their function as a curricular or co-curricular process, identified further by the specific activity they represent. The first series, entitled Faculty Administration, contains curricular materials which include admission files, records on faculty positions and Faculty Council/SPHE materials. Co-curricular series include; Intramurals, which contains both men's and women's intramural records; Intercollegiate Athletics, which holds records from all men's and women's Varsity sports teams; Facilities, Events and Athletics and Recreation Programs, which includes records for the management of the University's sports stadiums, fields, and arenas; and a series for Alumni, which contains a large amount of records on fundraising and awards. Finally, the Graphic Material series contains photographs and negatives of students, student identification cards and faculty and sporting events. Finally, there are approximately 250 videos of football games (1981-2000).

This accession contains records dealing with the establishment of the Institute of Life Course and Aging and associated programs in Gerontology. It also contains publications and reference material that was co-produced, supported or housed by the Institute, such as Issues of an Aging Workforce, Elder Abuse Ontario and Canadian Aging Research Network (CARNET) material. Records also include Institue review files, audit reports, meeting minutes and strategic planning material. Also contains PhD Student records (1997-2009).

This accession contains press releases, media clippings, and video recordings regarding the Lionel Gelber Prize, an international award for distinguished writing in the field of foreign affairs. The accession also contains records dealing with the selection process, including members of the selection committee, and various submissions for the award.

Promotional DVD produced for Hart House, 2009 Hancock Lecture featuring Nick Bontis of McMaster University entitled : Calibrating Your Future: A Balancing Act Between Social and Technological Pressures. This DVD contains an interview with Dr. Nick Bontis in Hart House on Jan 12 2009. It also contains an early Bontis lecture, edited and produced most likely for promotional purposes. The DVD does not contain the Hancock Lecture that was given at Convocation Hall on Februrary 4 2009.

Video cassettes (3/4" format) used by the Human Resources Department to orient new staff. Included are : "Campus Tour" 1977, "Welcome to New Staff" from variou Presidents, "This is the University of Toronto" 1980. There are also a number of videos that show role playing during various workshops including "Developing Supervisory Skills" and "The Media and You".

The University of Toronto Caput hearing on the conduct of Tony Leah and William Schabas in preventing the delivery of an address by urbanologist Edward Banfield at the University on March 12, 1974 on the grounds that he held racist views. The hearings were chaired by Prof. Albert Abel.

This accession contains both personal and professional records created and collected by Dr. L.E. Jones, professor of engineering. Although a small percentage of this fonds documents his personal life, the vast majority of material was created after his retirement in 1972, which he created in his capacity as Faculty Archivist and Professor Emeritus. The paucity of information from the earlier years can be attributed to the loss of many of his records during the Sir Sandford Fleming building fire in 1977.

The records have been arranged into series to reflect either the type of record or the activity involved. Records documenting Jones’ personal life are filed first, followed by papers documenting both the personal, professional and academic projects and activities that he worked on during his life. There are also special series dedicated to the archival information and records that he collected as Engineering Archivist. Photographs have been placed at the end in Series XI.

Some of the records that are included in this fonds include Professor Jones personal documents such as: his student workbooks and thesis, his letters to the editor, correspondence, and activities with his church and the Hart House Glee Club. Most of the records pertain to his professional activities and consist of documents such as: correspondence, publications, lectures and student marks. There are also a significant number of files that document his involvement in Faculty activities such as the Iron Ring Ceremony, the Hall of Distinction and the Centennial and Sesquicentennial celebrations. The work that he undertook for the Faculty providing calligraphy for the inscriptions on the awards and medals that were granted by the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering are also documented in many of the files. Finally, two series are dedicated to the articles that he collected documenting the history of the Faculty as well as the archival items that he acquired as Engineering Archivist.

Despite the fact that most of the records in this fonds document Professor Jones’ personal and professional activities after his retirement, they provide an interesting glimpse into his life while assuming the role of Engineering Archivist and Professor Emeritus. As the Engineering Archivist, Jones collected a variety of rich and interesting documents pertaining to some of the early pioneers within the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering. In addition to collecting material, Jones also documented the Faculty by photographing notable individuals and events. This fonds would therefore be useful to those individuals interested in examining the life of Professor Jones, as well as researchers who wish to delve into the history of the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering.

Records acquired in 2019 include drafts and notes related to the writing of his PhD thesis titled, “The undular surge in an open channel” (1941); early lecture notes and files relating to his teaching, in particular photography; further professional correspondence and memos related to his role as Engineering Archivist; additional items he collected as Engineering Archivist, in particular belonging to and/or about Prof. Louis B. Stewart and Prof. J.W. Melson; collected ephemera, artifacts, and photos about the University and the Faculty of Engineering.

This series consists of video and audio recordings featuring Professor Moldofsky and his research. Included are formal talks, workshops and conferences relating to fibromyalgia, sleep disorders and related research. There are also many popular media appearances by Moldofsky on television and on radio where he is interviewed about his research on sleep and particularly his sleep research lab and the experiment he conducted upon the MIR space station.

Personal records of Harvey Moldofsky, Professor Emeritus, Department of Psychiatry, former Director of the Centre for Sleep and Chronobiology at Toronto Western Hospital, and a world renowned specialist in sleep disorders. The records consist of correspondence, notes, raw data, addresses, publications, photographs, slides, posters, floppy disks, CDs, videos and artifacts documenting his research and other activities. Most of the files relate to his research work on sleep problems over many years, in particular those associated with the astronauts and cosmonauts on the NASA shuttle/Mir space station in the 1990’s, as part of the Microgravity, Sleep and Immune Functions in Humans (SWIF) project. Also included is the first working model of a sleep apnea machine (ca. 1983).

This series contains photographs, glass latern slides, photographic slides and a collection of reel to reel films belonging to MacIntosh. Most of the media covers MacIntosh’s professional life: surgical images, patient photographs, procedure documentation and lecture and statistical slides. There are also a small number of personal and family photographic slides which document various family trips and events. Also included is a set of photographs of the HMS Philante, the escort vessel which MacIntosh served on with Royal Navy during the Second World War.

This fonds mainly consists of records covering MacIntosh’s professional life from the beginning of his studies as a doctor during and just post-World War II up to and beyond his retirement in 1984. Very little of MacIntosh’s private life is documented in these records. The fonds has been split into the following series; 1. Biographical Information, 2. Notes and Research, 3. Personal records of the Davidson Black family, covering three generations, with particular reference to Davidson Black, the discoverer of Peking Man. Included are his diaries, extensive family correspondence and a few professional letters; files on his education, his employment, including his service in World War I but especially at Peking Union Medical College, his life in China generally, along with a few on his writings, and some artifacts. There is an extensive and well documented photo collection that helps tie the whole together. There are also a number of films made by Davidson Black between the late 1920s and 1932.

Personal records of James E. Till, consisting primarily of correspondence, honours and awards, teaching materials, research and administrative files, manuscripts and addresses (including slides), interviews, and photographs, documenting Dr. Till's career as a professor of medical biophysics at the University of Toronto and as a cancer specialist. Includes files on the Centre (later Joint Centre) for Bioethics and the Department of Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto, the Canadian Cancer Society and the Ontario Cancer Institute /Princess Margaret Hospital.

This series contains material relating to Professor Olson’s early schooling at Radville Christian College; his teaching at Western Christian College; and copies of his curriculum vitae. Also present are appointment books, journals, and notebooks reflecting his day-to-day activities, reflections, and ideas as well as some family correspondence with his mother (M.E. Olson), father (W.R. Olson), and brother (Roland Olson).

This fonds contains records related to the professional activities and personal life of Dr. Ernest Mastromatteo, occupational physician. The bulk of the material in this fonds documents his roles as a medical practitioner, researcher, and occupational health director. The series documenting the activities of the Nickel Producers’ Environmental Research Association, an association Dr. Mastromatteo was heavily involved in during the 1980s, is the largest, with smaller series documenting his career at Inco, his work with the American Conference of Governmental and Industrial Hygienists, and his many projects, case studies, organizations, associations and societies, as well as legal cases he provided testimony in. There is also a relatively large amount of material documenting his research in the form of addresses, and additional material chronicling his time as a student at both the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine and the School of Hygiene.

Records include correspondence, notebooks, publications, drafts, prints, reports, meeting minutes and memoranda.

Personal records of George Zarb, Professor Emeritus of and former head of Prosthodontics in the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto, who introduced dental implantology to North America and who is recognized internationally for his contributions to his field. The records include personal and professional correspondence; files on many of the numerous honours bestowed on him; administrative files; teaching files, course material and lecture notes with accompanying slides, along with slide presentations from student projects and theses; files of correspondence and related material pertaining to professional activities, including selected conferences and editorial work; and drafts of chapters of books, articles, and addresses, with accompanying photographs and slides, and some born-digital material.

Fonds consists of the records of Dr. Fraser Mustard, documenting his long and varied career in health, medicine and education, and his work building interdisciplinary, cross-university institutions for research and advocacy. The contents of the fonds primarily document the last 20-30 years of Dr. Mustard’s career, although there is some coverage of his early research and teaching career in medicine. The fonds provides a significant record of the work of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIAR) and Founders’ Network, as well as the Early Years Report, Council for Early Childhood Development (CECD), Aga Khan University and Dr. Mustard’s work in Australia.

Records include correspondence, day planners and itineraries, travel files, meeting notes, presentation slides, news clippings, reports, minutes, outreach material, photographs and other records documenting Dr. Mustard’s speeches, awards and honours, writing, travel, and support for various government initiatives, businesses, academic institutions and community organizations. Evident throughout is Dr. Mustard’s innovative approach to pedagogy and organizational structures, his persistent advocacy, and his insistence that governments and communities adopt strategies to early childhood education that are grounded in sound research.

The fonds also documents some aspects of Dr. Mustard’s personal life, including some family correspondence and records relating to personal events, such as his 75th birthday, the publication of his biography, and his death.

This series contains the original film elements for several films made by Kay Armatage.
There are also files documenting this facet of her career including correspondence, film proposals, research notes, clippings, grant applications, budget reports, shot lists and scripts. Several files document her films Striptease, Storytelling and Artist on Fire, as well as Prof. Armatage’s attempt at writing and directing a film about Nell Shipman which did not go beyond development.

Photographs in this series include shots taken during the production of several of her films. There is one file documenting the filming of Storytelling which includes shots of Northrop Frye in New York City. There are also three contact sheets by Babette Mangolte taken during the making of Artist on Fire, with views of Joyce Weiland’s Toronto studio and home. The series also contains one file of printing plates used in the creation of publicity material for Prof. Armatage’s early film Jill Johnson, October 1975.

This fonds documents various facets of Prof. Armatage’s career as a filmmaker, senior programmer for the Toronto International Film Festival, and a professor of Cinema Studies and Women’s Studies at the University of Toronto. The academic activity files in Series 1 give an overview of the breadth of her interests, achievements and promotions. Lecture notes and other course materials in Series 2, along with comments on student works found in Series 3, document her teaching role. These will be especially useful to researchers interested in understanding the early beginnings of both women studies and cinema studies and how these developing academic disciplines were being taught to students. Prof. Armatage’s role as a programmer for the Toronto International Film Festival is documented in her extensive notes found in notebooks where she recorded critiques of films she was screening. These are found in Series 4. The extent of her filmmaking is documented in Series 7 and contains preserved original film elements to several of Prof. Armatage’s films, along with a limited amount of related documentation on the making of these films. Unfortunately, this fonds does not contain release prints for these titles.

This fonds has only a small amount of records relating to her published academic works as well as files relating to conferences she organized and associations in which she was active. These can be found in Series 5 and Series 6.

Personal and biographical files, subject files, lecture notes, addresses, articles of Prof. C. Roger Myers, professor of psychology. Also includes research materials and manuscript of "History of Academic Psychology in Canada", compiled by Mary Wright and C. Roger Myers (1939-1980); and files related to Myers' oral history project of Canadian psychologists on behalf of the Canadian Psychological Association.

Additional materials of Edward Alexander Bott (c. 1911-1930) and correspondence, notes and partial manuscript of J.D.Ketchum's "Ruhleben: a prison camp society".

This series consists of five films made by Dr. Black. Four are home movies documenting his children, Davy and Nevitt; one is of the Summer Palace and Elliott Smith in Peking in 1930.
