Membership and Board of Directors' meetings

Sub-series consists of notification of meetings, agendas, minutes, reports from committees (including budgets and other financial statements), proposals, forms updating the officers and directors, and other materials prepared for meetings of the New Catholic Times membership, including the annual meeting of the Board of Directors.

From 1976 to 1989, members referred to themselves as "the collective" and meetings, held approximately bi-weekly, were called Collective meetings. The annual meeting of the Board of Directors usually occurred in January or February. Records for Collective meetings for the years 1978 and 1979 are absent, as indicated on post-it notes in the records for 1980 and 1977. From 1990 on, members referred themselves as "the membership" and Membership meetings were held twice a year, with the business conducted at the fall meeting. Records for membership meetings after 1999 do not exist, though see sub-series 2 for records pertaining to meetings of the Publishing Group.

Some of the letters from Leddy also request continued contributions from regions of Canada outside of Ontario. File also includes carbon copies of letters from Leddy to staff at other publications (both Catholic and secular) regarding the use or exchange of features, columns, and photographs or the exchange of subscriptions, and carbon copies of letters from Leddy to Members of Parliament and one to Prime Minister Trudeau regarding aboriginal treaty rights. Original incoming correspondence is included with most of the letters.

There are also microfiche copies of the papers of Chesterton's wife Frances (1875-1938), including her plays and poems. Additionally, the collection contains material added by Dorothy Collins after Chesterton's death.

The Papers of Monsignor John O'Connor (1870-1952) are also a part of the G.K. Chesterton Archival Collection. Monsignor O'Connor was the Catholic priest who became the model for Chesterton's character "Father Brown". In February 1903 O'Connor wrote to Chesterton, and the following year they formed an immediate bond of friendship which was to last more than thirty years. In 1921 O'Connor was present at Chesterton's reception into the Catholic Church. The papers of Monsignor O'Connor include a number of manuscripts of his poems and essays, Christmas greetings from the Chesterton's, personal letters, and newspaper clippings by and about Chesterton.

Diaries, reading journals and day planners

Series consists of 29 diaries, dated reading journals and day planners created and preserved by Watson during her adult life. These materials contain fragments of her creative writing; drawings in graphite, coloured pencil and ink; reading notes and language exercies; collected ephemera; recordings of her daily activities and financial transactions; and reflections on her experiences, emotions, relationships and surroundings.
In general Watson kept confessional and reflective diaries from 1954/55 to about 1957. When she moved to Toronto in 1956 to persue her doctoral studies, Watson began to keep what can be best described as reading journals, dated notes pertaining to books she was reading interspersed with short diary entries regarding her correspondence, her observations of her surroundings and her academic experiences. After she moved to Edmonton to teach at the University of Alberta, and upon her retirement in Nanaimo, Watson's recorded thoughts become more infrequent. In her later life, Watson appears to have purchased commercial day planners to record her daily activities and financial translations.
It is apparent that Watson kept journals during her early teaching career in Cariboo Country in British Columbia. However, it seems she destroyed these at a later period.
