Fonds consists of published articles, 1898-1934, and typescripts, [n.d.], written by Dr. Frederic Newton Gisborne Starr on medical subjects; two photographs. Also includes a scrapbook (compiled by unknown) with two more photographic portraits of Dr. Starr and his wife (Annie Callander MacKay), a copy of the testimonial to Dr. Starr upon his retirement in 1933, tributes to him by friends and students after his death, copies of invitations he received to events at Buckingham Palace, newspaper clippings and articles.

Amir Hassanpour fonds

Fonds consists of records documenting the professional and personal life of Prof. Hassanpour, Kurdish-Iranian Marxist scholar and Professor at UofT’s Department of Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations. Material reflects key areas of Prof. Hassanpour’s research, most significantly Kurdish history and culture; the history of political movements, grassroots organization, and class struggle in Iran, Iraq and Turkey; and communication theory and sociolinguistics. Material includes correspondence with colleagues and scholars internationally, documentation of research with particular focus on Prof. Hassanpour’s dissertation and his Peasant Movement Project, records relating to conference presentations, interviews, and teaching, as well as his publishing activity.

Prof. Hassanpour was deeply invested in the preservation of Kurdish oral, visual, and textual documentary heritage as a response to the historical state suppression of cultural-political struggle of Kurdish people. Reflected in records throughout the fonds is Prof. Hassanpour’s work in pursuing the establishment of Kurdish Studies as a discipline, his work editing journals related to Kurdistan, and his effort in exposing and circulating books on Kurdish Studies to libraries and research institutions internationally. Prof. Hassanpour also actively collected and preserved Kurdish texts, dailies, and visual materials. This material is included in Series 9 (Reference material) and through bibliographic and audio material held in other repositories at the University of Toronto Libraries (please see the related material note below).

John Arthur Sawyer fonds

Fonds consists of correspondence, memoranda, lecture notes, drafts of articles and addresses, documenting the career of John Sawyer at Royal Military College, Kingston, Ontario, the Dominion Bureau of Statistics, and the University of Toronto, at the last especially as chair of the Commerce Programmes, with the Faculty of Management Studies, and as Director of the Institute of Policy Analysis. Also includes a revised (2012) copy of Professor Sawyer's memoirs.

VWEA - Addresses

Contains two copies of the addresses that were given at the Annual Meeting, March 23, 1904. Addresses were given by Rev. W.H. Hincks, LLB and H.H. Fudger, Esq. in response to the prompt, "A Methodist School for Girls in Toronto: Do we need it? What should it be?"

VWA - Brochures

Contains two copies of a recruitment brochure, explaining the VWA for potential new members. The brochure is titled "What? Why?"

VWA - Event Announcements and Invitations

Includes announcements of regularly scheduled events and lists the speakers and topics. Also includes posters and fliers (1992 fashion show; 1994 spring concert; 1997 100th anniversary fundraising recital; 1998 talk by Dr. John C. Polanyi). As well as programs for the 2008 and 2009 annual luncheon.

VWREA - Events and Announcements

Includes: Announcement regarding voice and physical culture courses; invitations to various events; extract from Acta Victoriana, Jan. 1912 regarding updates to the Ladies' Parlor.

VWREA - Printed Appeal to Members

Contains printed fundraising appeal from the VWREA to the women of the Methodist Church in Ontario. Discusses the progress on building Annesley Hall and requests funding to help furnish rooms as well as donations of feathers, linen, and quilts for pillows and bedrooms.


Series contains photographs of members of the Victoria Women's Association, many of those taken at VWA events.


Series consists of material related to the various events held by the Victoria Women’s Association, including luncheons, memorials, anniversaries, and tributes.
