"The music of Duke Ellington" lecture series at Humber college : pictures of Duke Ellington and his band members

File contains pictures taken from various magazines and mounted according to big band instrumentation. File includes Collier's notes (6 p.) and an article on Ellington's bassists, and publicity concerning Collier and Humber College's concert "A tribute to Duke Ellington" (1978) at the Toronto spring festival of the arts.

The Leslie Bell Singers scrapbook

File consists of four chronologically-sequential scrapbooks, including programs, newspaper clippings, and photographs. Some loose materials, including 13 photographs of the choir on tour and performing by Alex Gray. The scrapbooks were compiled by Irene G. Warnock, a member of the choir.

The Kitsilano boys band and Ron Collier : photo album

File contains photographs, newspaper clippings, post cards and ephemera. File includes photographs of Collier's family, the K.B.B., Collier's early professional activities, Gordon Delamont and Duke Ellington. File also contains Collier's diary during the K.B.B.'s European tour in 1950 (about 200 p.).

Sydney Hodkinson : Edward Johnson Building

File contains program notes, composers' biographies, and correspondence for a NMC concert on January 19, 1974. The concert took place at Edward Johnson Building, University of Toronto and featured guest conductor Sydney Hodkinson and guest composers Norma Beecroft, David Foley, Sydney Hodkinson, R. Murray Schafer, and Thorkell Sigurbjörnsson.

St. Lawrence String Quartet : [photographs]

File consists of promotional photographs of the St. Lawrence String Quartet, with Geoff Nuttall, Barry Shiffman, violin; Lesley Robertson, viola; and Marina Hoover, cello. The Quartet was founded in 1989, and they received coaching at the University of Toronto Faculty of Music from Lorand Fenyves. They have been quartet-in-residence at the Faculty of Music since 1995.

File consists of 3 photographs from the first symposium of the John Adaskin School Music Project, held in Toronto. The photographs show Harry Freedman, Jim Bray, and Alfred Kunz working with students. Photographs by Jack Mitchell. File also includes 14 photographs of Harry Somers and Norman Symonds working with students. Date and location of photographs is uncertain.

Scrapbook compiled by Milton Blankstein

File consists of a scrapbook compiled by the Milton Blankstein (later, Blackstone), consisting of newspaper clippings of reviews and press notices, photographs, and programs relating to his career in New York City, Toronto, and other Canadian cities. The scrapbook includes a signed photograph of Eugène Ysaÿe and and Boris Hambourg (dated in Toronto, 1918).

File includes a photograph of violinist Scott St. John speaking from the stage during the March 28, 2003 concert, which included the announcement of a donation from Alice and Grant Burton to support chamber groups in residence at the Faculty.

Salome / Richard Strauss

File consists of an annotated score with Herman Geiger-Torel's notes from a 1965 performance and three photographs of the set and one of the opera singers. Annotations include a handwritten cast list from another, likely earlier, performance. The 1965 production for the Canadian Opera Company (COC) was directed by Herman Geiger-Torel with Wolfgang Martin, conductor; Brian Jackson, set designer; and Suzanne Mess, costume designer.

File includes a program from Robert Aitken's premiere performance of Roger Reynolds' "Transfigured Wind IV" at Alice Tully Hall (February 10, 1985) and photographs of Robert Aitken and Roger Reynolds from September 24, 1983 and at the 1985 concert.
