Wayne Ray fonds

Nine-two coloured slides document the grounds and landscaping at 93 Highland, the official residence of the University of Toronto President. They were taken while Ray was a grounds keeper in the Physical Plant Department and include views of a retaining wall construction, a slope reconstruction, the rock garden, the greenhouse potting shed and the conservatory. In addition there is one landscape drawing of the rock garden done by Ray. Also included are 75 b&w and colour photographs showing the University of Toronto Bookstore move to the Koefler Centre in 1985 as well as various images of physical plant staff members at work.

Consists of transcripts and tapes of interviews with individuals working at the University of Toronto Press. The interviews were arranged by Prof. Victor Hoar of the University of Western Ontario, who had a grant to carry out an "oral history" project concerning academic publishing in Canada. Dr. Hoar later changed his surname to Howard. The tapes and transcripts were transferred to the Archives in 1979, with the intention of adding them to the Archives' own oral history collection.

Box 1 contains transcripts of interviews with Harold Bohne, Miss Cragg (now Mrs. D. Sutherland), ___ Fanning, Allan Fleming, J.G. Garden, Roy Gurney, and Eleanor Harmon.

Box 2 contains transcripts of interviews with D. Hayne, Marshall Jeanneret, Hillary Marshall, Ian Montagnes, and B. Plewman.

There are also audiotapes of the recordings for Cragg, Fleming, Garden, Garvey, Hayne, Jeanneret, Montagnes, and Plowman. There is also an audiotape of an interview with Francess Halpenny, for which there is no transcript.

These records include lecture notes and copies of examinations relating to Algebra, Astronomy, Curves, Surveying, Drainage laws, etc. and collected and produced while operating his Tutorial School.

Fonds consists of records documenting the personal, professional, and public life of Dr. Ursula Franklin, physicist, engineer, materials scientists, pacifist and feminist. Records document Dr. Franklin’s early life and career, later employment by the University of Toronto, awards and honorary degrees, teaching, research process and output, publishing activities, travel, service on national scientific boards, work with the CBC, peace work with the Quakers and Voice of Women, as well as other advocacy and activism.

A series of chronological files documents Dr. Franklin’s speeches, talks and attendance at a variety of academic and community events. Fonds also includes a significant amount of correspondence with colleagues, family, friends, fellow activists and ordinary citizens, as well as electronic copies of more than 575 pages of surveillance of Dr. Franklin by the RCMP. One series also documents a wide range of matters at the University of Toronto relating to Massey College, Museum Studies, the SLOWPOKE Reactor, and other matters. Yet another series documents Dr. Franklin’s involvement with the Ursula Franklin Academy.

Records include day planners, notebooks, correspondence, publications, news clippings, reports, drafts, research data and notes, background material, photographs, sound and moving image recordings and some copies of government documents and records.

B2000-0028: The records document the Women's Auxiliary of the University Settlement. The Women's Auxiliary was established in 1920, ten years after the creation of the University Settlement. The records in this accession consists of histories of the Women's auxiliary, its constitution, lists of members, correspondence and minutes from their committee meetings. Files also document the University Settlement Board meetings, the Camp Boulderwood initiative, and literature distributed by the University Settlement itself. Also includes a photograph of Marilyn MacDonald, president of the Women's Auxiliary University Settlement accepting the Annual Commnunity Leadership Award on behald of the auxiliary.

B2001-0010: The records document the Women's Auxiliary of the University Settlement. They consist of: copies of its constitutions; reports of officers and committees including President (1939-54), Secretary (1932-1950), Treasurer (1931-1983) House and Buying Committee (1933-1969), Public Relations (1945-74), Tea Conveanor (1963-1986) and Fashion Show (1980-1886); original minute books from 1920-1983; misc. correspondence (1940-1987); membership and supporters lists; one file relating to the writing of the history of the Women's Auxiliary. Also included are University Settlement Board of Directors minutes and reports, 1976-1984 as well as some miscellaneous publications, 1980-1986.
