This series documents Prof MacDowell's involvement in organizations and associations—primarily those focused on labour relations and the environment. These include the Policy Committee of the Ontario NDP, the Nuclear International Research Group, and the Ontario Historical Society. Also documented here is MacDowell's involvement with the Larry Sefton Memorial Lecture series, for which she delivered the ten year anniversary lecture in 1992. Other conferences attended and presented at are also captured here, including the 1986 North American Labour History conference held at the University of Toronto, which MacDowell organized and which was the only time this conference had been hosted in Canada. This series also includes documentation of roles performed by Prof MacDowell in addition to her regular duties as a professor. These include the 1995 delivery of the citation for the honorary doctorate degree awarded to Lynn Williams; serving as chair of the Canadian History Search Committee (2000); participating in performance reviews; and lectures delivered to classes other than her own.

This collection of Bevington’s papers contains a variety of material ranging from his time before Rochdale (albeit sparsely), his time at Rochdale, the founding of the Coach House Press, professional correspondence, materials relating to publications, and other business-related records. The papers contain much personal material relating to Bevington, including correspondence and invitations. Many of Bevington’s papers relating to Coach House Press business reside with Library and Archives Canada.

Personal records of George Zarb, Professor Emeritus of and former head of Prosthodontics in the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto, who introduced dental implantology to North America and who is recognized internationally for his contributions to his field. The records include personal and professional correspondence; files on many of the numerous honours bestowed on him; administrative files; teaching files, course material and lecture notes with accompanying slides, along with slide presentations from student projects and theses; files of correspondence and related material pertaining to professional activities, including selected conferences and editorial work; and drafts of chapters of books, articles, and addresses, with accompanying photographs and slides, and some born-digital material.

This fonds contains comprehensive documentation on all aspects of Richard Lee’s work as a well-known anthropologist. Correspondence, found within Series 1 but also throughout the fonds, is multifaceted and includes both incoming and outgoing letters with colleagues, students, university administrators and publishers. His teaching lectures and numerous papers, talks and drafts of publications represent a full body of work that synthesis his research from his early work with the the Ju/'hoansi-!Kung San of Botswana and Namibia to his evolving interest in indigenous human rights and the impact of Aids/HIV in southern Africa. This fonds is rich in original research including original collated data, field notebooks, grants requests and general notes. Much of this is supplemented with photographs and sound recordings related to his research and publications. Finally, files relating to professional meetings and groups document the overall field of anthropology, Lee’s role within it and the changing nature of the discipline and the role of anthropologists in society.

Fonds consists of the records of Anne Lancashire, documenting her career as a Professor of English at the University of Toronto from her appointment in 1965 at the University College English Department, and her cross-appointment to Drama in 1975 and Cinema Studies in 1985, until her retirement in 2012, as well as her several administrative positions at the University. Her research, publications and administration positions held for several professional associations are also documented. The content of the fonds primarily document the last 40 years of her work, but there is some coverage of her early teaching career and research. The fonds provides a significant record of her work as a faculty and administration member of the University of Toronto, her extensive research and scholarship, and her involvement in several professional associations relating to English literature and drama.

Records include correspondence, minutes, reports, course notes, syllabi, exams and tests, course bibliographies and a course pack on medieval literature, press clippings, publication reviews, research lectures and papers, manuscripts and other records documenting Professor Lancashire’s graduate and undergraduate courses taught in English, Drama and Cinema Studies, various administrative positions, and extensive research and scholarship.

Fonds consists of the personal records of Prof. David R. Cameron, political scientist. The majority of the records document Prof. Cameron’s work with the federal and provincial governments, rather than his academic work.

Much of the fonds documents Prof. Cameron’s work with the federal and Ontario governments on constitutional renewal, national unity, and French-English relations in the late 1970s and 1980s. In particular, there is significant documentation of the Pépin-Robarts Task Force on Canadian Unity, and Cameron’s work with the Federal-Provincial Relations Office. Prof. Cameron’s work on post-secondary education with the Secretary of State is also well documented, as is his work on constitutional renewal and Ontario-Quebec relations with the Ontario government in the 1990s.

Records relating to this government service include day planners and steno pads, correspondence and memos, briefings, news clippings, government documents, reports, proposals, research and background files, travel records, contracts, drafts and revisions, and meeting agendas, minutes and briefings.

Fonds also includes records relating to Prof. Cameron’s involvement with the Romanow Commission on the Future of Health Care in Canada (2001-2003), the Walkerton Inquiry (2001-2002), and the Sri Lankan peace process (2002-2005).

This fonds contains records related to the researching and publishing activities of Professor John Greer Slater, philosopher and professor at the University of Toronto. The series documenting both his research on Bertrand Russell, and the publication of his book Minerva’s Aviary, are the two largest. There is also a relatively large amount of material documenting his administrative activities within the Department of Philosophy at the University of Toronto and his book collecting. Throughout this fonds there are a lot of press clippings, particularly in his personal and autobiographical records, though there are also many in the Bertrand Russell series and the Department of Philosophy Series.

The records include correspondence, notes, drafts, manuscripts, press clippings and photographs.

The bulk of the records are contained in accession B2014-0039. Also included are 2 boxes of correspondence, memoranda, reports, monographs and newspaper clippings accumulated by Professor Slater as a member of the Provost's Committee to Review the Relationships between the University of Toronto and OISE (accession B1985-0026) found in Series 3.

Notably absent from this fonds is any teaching material. In addition, the Addresses series contains mainly flyers about addresses that Professor Slater has either given or attended, but does not contain the text of any of his addresses.

This fonds documents various facets of Prof. Armatage’s career as a filmmaker, senior programmer for the Toronto International Film Festival, and a professor of Cinema Studies and Women’s Studies at the University of Toronto. The academic activity files in Series 1 give an overview of the breadth of her interests, achievements and promotions. Lecture notes and other course materials in Series 2, along with comments on student works found in Series 3, document her teaching role. These will be especially useful to researchers interested in understanding the early beginnings of both women studies and cinema studies and how these developing academic disciplines were being taught to students. Prof. Armatage’s role as a programmer for the Toronto International Film Festival is documented in her extensive notes found in notebooks where she recorded critiques of films she was screening. These are found in Series 4. The extent of her filmmaking is documented in Series 7 and contains preserved original film elements to several of Prof. Armatage’s films, along with a limited amount of related documentation on the making of these films. Unfortunately, this fonds does not contain release prints for these titles.

This fonds has only a small amount of records relating to her published academic works as well as files relating to conferences she organized and associations in which she was active. These can be found in Series 5 and Series 6.

Series consists of records relating to Dr. Mustard’s attendance and participation in various events across the world, including meetings, conferences, visits with community groups, presentations, convocations, and other special events. Files consist of correspondence, itineraries, meeting notes, reports, brochures, proceedings, lists of attendees, and news coverage of the event. In some cases, a copy of the presentation is also included.

In cases where files document Dr. Mustard’s visits to small communities and early childhood development organizations, files also contain information on the host group and region, including brochures, information packages and news clippings relating to issues in that particular community (such as health, poverty, and child care).

Series also consists of digital files, containing PowerPoint presentations (.ppt) for particular talks and speeches, 2003-2005.

Series consists of materials from the 'Completing the Vision: The Oral History of Henri Nouwen' project that was undertaken by Sister Sue Mosteller, Executrix of the Henri Nouwen Literary Centre in partnership with the Henri Nouwen Society and The Henri Nouwen Archives and Research Collection. The project was funded by grants from the Louisville Institution, the Nouwen Society and gifts in kind. The project intended to capture the personal and intimate nature of Nouwen's life and works by interviewing people from Nouwen's extensive network of intellectuals, clerics, lay ministers and ordinary citizens including those from all socio-economic backgrounds, cultures, faiths and traditions who were influenced by Nouwen or influenced him. The interviews were meant to paint a multi-coloured canvas of Nouwen in his many roles and give us a perspective not available in his own writings. Further, the project was a contribution to the ongoing study of religious experience in the 20th century. The project had three specific goals:

• Fill in historically significant gaps in the present record of Nouwen's life
• Gain an understanding of why and how a man of such enormous contradictions touched the lives of so many people and drew criticisms of others
• To give an opportunity for the wide variety of people who were impacted by Nouwen and who in turn contributed to his theological and pastoral vision to give expression to their experience and understanding

From these goals it is hoped this project would act as a resource for contemporary ministry and be an inspiration for ministers, teachers and lay people alike. Further, the project would compliment the writings of Henri Nouwen and the dozen or so newly published books that have explored his legacy since his death.

The interviews conducted for this project relate to four specific periods in Nouwen's life:

• Early Seminary/University Years 1951-1964
• Menniger and Notre Dame Years 1964-1967
• Yale and Harvard Years 1971-1985
• Final ten years at L'Arche Daybreak 1986-1987

The interviewees range in age, occupation and geographic location but all had a significant relationship with Nouwen at some point in his life. The methodology of the project involved asking each interviewee to spend 30-40 minutes of their interview naming the influences that formed them, their primary relationships, their mission/profession and how their life crossed with Nouwen's.

Over a 24 month period, 93 interviews were conducted, each averaging two hours in length, providing more than 180 hours of multi-textured content regarding Nouwen's theological vision and its impact. The interviewees also recount events of their personal lives and other significant influences unrelated to their relationship with Nouwen. The interviews took place all over North and South America, Europe and Asia and were documented in audio and/or video format. Some of the interviews have been transcribed and a hard copy and/or electronic copy of the transcription are available. Most the interviews and transcriptions are available in English while some are only available in Dutch.

Subseries consists of correspondence files kept by staff at the Henri Nouwen Literary Centre (HNLC) as part of the management of Nouwen’s estate and the business of the HNLC. The files were predominantly created during the four years following Nouwen’s death, prior to the establishment of the Henri Nouwen Literary Trust and the incorporation of the Canadian branch of the Henri Nouwen Society. Due to the overlapping administrative support of the Henri Nouwen Literary Centre and the American branch of the Henri Nouwen Society, as well Sue Mosteller’s continued role with various L’Arche communities, records pertaining to the operation of these entities are not uncommon. Often accompanying the correspondence is reference material in the form of agreements, articles, brochures, reports, proposals, newsletters and biographical sketches. Files containing personal correspondence sent to Nouwen and presumably used as reference material by the staff of the Henri Nouwen Literary Centre appear throughout the series. In several instances business or personal correspondence that took place after Nouwen’s death between the contact and, most often, Mosteller or Kathy Christie also appear in these files.

Topics in this series include: planning and research regarding the management of Nouwen’s legacy and estate; the mission, goals and incorporation of the Henri Nouwen Society; the relocation and development of the Nouwen Archives; the publication of Nouwen’s unpublished and revised published works; the translation and use of Nouwen’s work and the associated royalties and copyright restrictions; the writing and publication of Nouwen related books by authors including Beth Porter, Michael Ford, Tim Jones, Deidre LaNoue and Michael O’Laughlin; Nouwen focused retreats, workshops, lectures, courses and memorials; the production of Nouwen related audio and visual projects; the design and launch of Nouwen related newsletters and websites; the funding and functions of the Henri Nouwen Stichting; responses to and reviews of Nouwen’s writing; Nouwen’s influence on Hillary Clinton; the operations of the Thomas Merton Center; and Nouwen’s appearance on Hour of Power at the Crystal Cathedral.

File consists of posters advertising performances by members of the University of Toronto Faculty of Music community, which took place outside of the University, including collaborations with various Toronto performing groups.

This series contains documents pulled together by Prof. Armatage for her tenure review as well as for subsequent yearly reviews. Files contain mainly professional correspondence, descriptive reports on research and teaching activities, yearly activity reports and clippings about her work. There is information on promotions, awards, research leaves and grants. Clippings in this series also give evidence to Prof. Armatage’s work outside mainstream academia including her role as a documentary filmmaker and curator for the Toronto International Film Festival.

This fonds is divided into two series: ‘Textual Material’ and ‘Audiovisual Material’.

The first series, ‘Textual Material’, consists of nine subseries. ‘Press and Publicity’ consists primarily of published articles, profiles and reviews of the band between 1980 and 2003. ‘Correspondence’ consists of communications between members of the band and their management, and between management and record companies/promoters; this subseries contains numerous letters from celebrities, and spans the period between 1985 and 2001. ‘Legal’ consists of incorporation documents, contracts, and litigation; this subseries dates from 1984 to 2000. ‘Accounting’ consists of financial statements, royalty statements, invoices and receipts; this subseries dates from 1982 to 2000. ‘Creative’ consists of lyric sheets, poetry, string charts, scrapbooks, sheet music, and artwork; this subseries dates from 1975 to 1999. ‘Memorabilia’ consists of t-shirts, bandanas, displays, promotional postcards, and other items; this subseries dates from 1986 to 2002. ‘Posters’ consists of 67 posters advertising the band and particular concerts and recordings; this subseries dates from 1987 to 2002. ‘Photographs’ consists of photographs of the band and people associated with them; this subseries dates from 1981 to 2002. ‘Miscellaneous’ consists of 40 awards; this subseries dates from 1981 to 2002.

Fonds consists of the records of Dr. Fraser Mustard, documenting his long and varied career in health, medicine and education, and his work building interdisciplinary, cross-university institutions for research and advocacy. The contents of the fonds primarily document the last 20-30 years of Dr. Mustard’s career, although there is some coverage of his early research and teaching career in medicine. The fonds provides a significant record of the work of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIAR) and Founders’ Network, as well as the Early Years Report, Council for Early Childhood Development (CECD), Aga Khan University and Dr. Mustard’s work in Australia.

Records include correspondence, day planners and itineraries, travel files, meeting notes, presentation slides, news clippings, reports, minutes, outreach material, photographs and other records documenting Dr. Mustard’s speeches, awards and honours, writing, travel, and support for various government initiatives, businesses, academic institutions and community organizations. Evident throughout is Dr. Mustard’s innovative approach to pedagogy and organizational structures, his persistent advocacy, and his insistence that governments and communities adopt strategies to early childhood education that are grounded in sound research.

The fonds also documents some aspects of Dr. Mustard’s personal life, including some family correspondence and records relating to personal events, such as his 75th birthday, the publication of his biography, and his death.

This fonds contains records related to the professional activities and personal life of Dr. Ernest Mastromatteo, occupational physician. The bulk of the material in this fonds documents his roles as a medical practitioner, researcher, and occupational health director. The series documenting the activities of the Nickel Producers’ Environmental Research Association, an association Dr. Mastromatteo was heavily involved in during the 1980s, is the largest, with smaller series documenting his career at Inco, his work with the American Conference of Governmental and Industrial Hygienists, and his many projects, case studies, organizations, associations and societies, as well as legal cases he provided testimony in. There is also a relatively large amount of material documenting his research in the form of addresses, and additional material chronicling his time as a student at both the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine and the School of Hygiene.

Records include correspondence, notebooks, publications, drafts, prints, reports, meeting minutes and memoranda.

Contains the personal and professional records of Robert Arnold Russel. This includes photographs of Russel and his family, information regarding his early life including schooling and university, family tree information and identifying documents such as baptism records and passports. The collection contains a comprehensive collection of Russel’s diaries and daytimers spanning from 1949 to his death in 2011. Professional records include materials pertaining to his early career in theatre, film and broadcasting, during the course of which he resided in France, England and Montreal. His career as an information professional and futurist is recorded extensively including his penning of the term “intersex” and “cybersex” in 1967 and his interview with Marshall McLuhan in 1962. As a futurist, Russel’s operated several businesses, most specifically, Orba Information (also called Orbafilm and Orba Inc), which operated between 1967 and 1993, which is archived in great detail, a smaller amount of information on later businesses including Rapid Response Inc., Toronto, Institute for Research on Public Policy and The Consortium for National Development is also available. Collection also contains drafts, proposals, budgets and storyboards surrounding Russel’s personal creative writing, including The Spark, a proposed television program and I am Haida, a proposed CD-ROM and game on Haida culture, and novels – The Petrans and Clone.

Files in this series document Prof. Franceschetti’s publishing activity. It includes general correspondence relating to books sent for review and information about sources and related material; additional general correspondence and notes for reviews; and correspondence about books sent for review to Quaderni d’Italianistica. These general files are followed by reviews arranged chronologically, with the files containing any combination of notes for and drafts of reviews and covering correspondence, and posters.

Professor Franceschetti’s prolific publication record of articles and books is outlined in the biographical sketch above. The remainder of the series consists of files relating to manuscripts submitted for publication and articles and books that were published. Only the first of his three books are documented in much detail, but considerable documentation of his many articles is present, usually in draft format (though some files contain no drafts) and often with covering correspondence and/or notes. Personal records of the Davidson Black family, covering three generations, with particular reference to Davidson Black, the discoverer of Peking Man. Included are his diaries, extensive family correspondence and a few professional letters; files on his education, his employment, including his service in World War I but especially at Peking Union Medical College, his life in China generally, along with a few on his writings, and some artifacts. There is an extensive and well documented photo collection that helps tie the whole together. There are also a number of films made by Davidson Black between the late 1920s and 1932.

This accession for Beverley Slopen’s papers consists of administrative records, working files,correspondence, manuscripts (bound and unbound) and other material related to the activities of the Beverley Slopen Literary Agency. It includes material from her current, past and prospective clients.
