Photographs

Series consists of professional portraits of Michael Colgrass, as well as photographs from workshops, concerts, and rehearsals, and family photographs. Series includes photographs of Colgrass in Stuttgart when he was a timpanist with the Seventh Army Symphony Orchestra (1955-1956); from his time in Copenhagen for the performance of his Rhapsodic Fantasy by the Danish Radio Orchestra conducted by Tamas Vetö (1965); from his Fort Wayne Residency (1972); of his rehearsals with the Canadian Brass for Flashbacks (1979); from a production of Colgrass' "Something's gonna happen" at Duggan Jr. High School in Edmonton, Alberta (1982); from rehearsals of Chaconne with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra conducted by Andrew Davis (1984); neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) workshops, particularly at the Dynamic Learning Center at NLPU in Santa Cruz, California (1987); workshop at University of New Mexico (1988); at Longmeadow High School and Springfield Public School in Massachusetts (1992); University of Manitoba workshop (1997); and Winona Drive School workshop (1999).

Teaching and performance materials

Series consists of materials created by J. Churchill Arlidge in the course of his teaching and performance career, including sheet music with added vocal parts, written in his own hand, a practice record booklet that he published in Toronto in 1907, and the script and program for a concert that he gave in the 1880s.

Memorabilia

Series consists of a copy of Emmy Heim's obituary by Ronald Hambleton in the Globe and Mail (October 13, 1954); the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto Monthly Bulletin (November 1954) with an obituary written by Sir Ernest MacMillan; and a copy of the publicity photo used by Heim for many of her programs.

Financial records

Series contains budgets, financial reports, grant applications, and records of New Music Concerts' fundraising efforts that contributed to the daily operations of the organization, the presentation of individual concerts, and new works commissioned from composers.

Concerts

Series consists of materials produced by the Aldeburgh Connection for each of their concerts, including the Sunday Afternoon Concert Series, held at Walter Hall, Faculty of Music, University of Toronto (1982-2013); the Recital Series at the Glenn Gould Studio, Toronto (1993-2013); the Discovery Series (also called the Young Artists Series), held at Walter Hall (1998-2011); the Bayfield Festival of Song (2007-2012); and various concerts performed on tour in North America and Great Britain. Each file contains the records created and used in the production of the concert, including promotional materials (programs, posters, and pamphlets); correspondence with musicians, sponsors, and venues; newspaper clippings of concert reviews; contracts with performers and venues; research notes; narrative scripts for the Sunday Afternoon Concert Series; scores annotated by Stephen Ralls and Bruce Ubukata; arrangements and transpositions of songs; stage, set, and lighting designs; subscriber lists; and ticket sales records.

Diaries

Series consists of John Stratton's personal diaries, in which he wrote daily entries. His earlier diaries also include copies of programs from concerts and events he attended or participated in, occasional photographs, newspaper clippings, and some correspondence. Other inserted items of note include a pamphlet for a portable gramophone (1995); a photograph of John Stratton recording "Non più andrai" from Le nozze di Figaro by Mozart at the Faculty of Music in 1997, demonstrating the Edison wax cylinder phonograph (1998); and, two photographs of his vocal recordings collection in its Toronto apartment (1999).

Photographs

Series consists of promotional and professional photographs of Elizabeth Benson Guy, as well as photographs from her personal life, including from her 25th school reunion at Netherwood School, [New Brunswick] and in Chester, [Nova Scotia?]. The photographs pertaining to her career as a musician include photographs from her appearance in The Bartered Bride at the Toronto Conservatory of Music (1947) and in a performance of Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute, unknown date).

Teaching records

Series consists of Carl Morey's grade books, which contain students' names and marks for each class taught by Carl Morey at the University of Toronto Faculty of Music.

Microfilms

Series consists of microfilm copies of scrapbooks, correspondence, and programs relating to Theodore Thomas's career, which Ezra Schabas used for the biography Theodore Thomas : America's conductor and builder of orchestras, 1835-1905.

Interviews

Instruments

Series consists of glass lantern slides showing images of various instruments. Slides include images of instruments as included in Storia della musica attraverso l'immagine by Georg Kinsky, and Histoire de la musique des origines à la fin du XIVe siècle by Théodore Gérold, as well as reproductions of paintings and other artistic renderings of instruments. Instruments include the theorbo, lute, harp, viola da gamba, viola d'amore, German flute, lyre, guitar, unfretted and fretted clavichords, spinnet, Silberman pianoforte, gravicembalo, and oliphants.

Ontario College of Art projects

Series consists of Udo Kasemets's notebooks, posters, and plans for projects at the Ontario College of Art (OCA). Series also contains Kasemets's OCA teaching materials and notes.

Performance records

Series contains programs from concerts that Greta Kraus performed in or attended, lecture notes on the topic of "the art of singing", newspaper clippings relating to Kraus or her family, and audio recordings of three concerts. The programs include the memorial tribute to Greta Kraus in Walter Hall (May 8, 1998) and "The Greta Kraus Schubertiad" produced by the Aldeburgh Connection (May 9, 2006 at the Glenn Gould Studio). Recordings include the memorial tribute; a concert produced by the Aldeburgh Connection ("Greta's Choice, January 16, 1994); and, "Celebrating Greta Kraus" (September 23, 1993). The series also contains a summary of her principal career dates, and two articles written by Thomas Hathaway: "Greta Kraus: 'A Crazy Career - Upside Down from A to Z'" and "What is a Song, How do You Sing it and What is Tradition all About?: Lois Marshall and Greta Kraus on Music-Making."

Music for Nimmons 'N' Nine Plus Six

Series consists of music written and arranged for Nimmons 'N' Nine Plus Six. This expanded version of Nimmons 'N' Nine was formed in 1965, reorganized in 1974, and disbanded in the early 1980s. Most of the music was written by Phil Nimmons with a few contributions from other members of the ensemble.

Series consists of general information and descriptions of the Opera School program and its history; lists of past productions; descriptions of courses; biographies; theatre equipment lists and inventories; and scrapbooks compiled by the Opera School of their archives. The latter contain programs, correspondence, newspaper clippings, budgets, and other records, and cover the following years: 1948, 1950-1959, 1960-1966, 1970, 1974, and 1979.
