The theme of Nouwen's lectures was Christianity and the Spiritual Life. His four lectures were entitled "Spiritual Identity: Belonging to the World, Life as Survival," "Belonging to God: Being the Beloved," "Life of the Beloved: The Spiritual Dynamics of Belonging to God," and "Disciplines of the Spiritual Life for the Beloved." Includes the course syllabus for Spring 1991 and Winter 1992 and the Christianity and Culture course calendar for 1991-1992.

File consists of a draft typescript of "Spiritual Direction". This text was later published in several articles, as well in booklet form. Nouwen writes that spiritual formation implies the discipline of spiritual direction. Themes include absurdity and obedience. He writes that there are three disciplines of spiritual direction: (a) the discipline of the Church, (b) the discipline of the Book, and (c) the discipline of the Heart.

Centre for Social Concerns - March 19 - 22, 1992

File consists of correspondence, mainly with Joe Vorstermans, and other material regarding Nouwen speaking at the L'Arche and Emmaus communities weekend, Centre for Social Concerns, University of Notre Dame. Nouwen spoke on "God's Love Experienced in Community." Includes extensive handwritten notes by Nouwen. Also includes information sheets and flyers from the event, and a brochure for the Centre for Social Concerns.

Visit of Jack and Susan Stroh - March 28, 1992

File consists of a memorandum from Nouwen's secretary, stating that Jack and Sue Stroh called and requested to meet with Nouwen for an hour on a weekend. In a letter to the Strohs, thanking them for a donation, Nouwen indicates the day will be March 28th.

The Catholic Women's League of Canada - April 4, 1992

File consists of correspondence, with Patricia Beattie, and other material regarding Nouwen's presentation to the Toronto Archdiocesan Catholic Women's League's [CWL] Annual Development Day at St. Phillip Neri, Downsview. Nouwen's presentation was entitled "Ministry to Persons with a Mental Disability." Includes Nouwen's response confirming the event. Also includes a copy of the League's Resolution on Ministry to Persons with a Mental Disability, a map to the event, a memo from Nouwen's secretary regarding the event, and notes in Nouwen's hand for his presentation.

Evening Retreat at St. Mary's - April 6 - 8, 1992

File consists of a program, itinerary, and Nouwen's handwritten notes for a retreat at St. Mary's with the theme "Come and See: Three Evenings for Finding God in your Daily Life." Nouwen was the homilist for all three evenings. The themes were "Experiencing God's Grace," "Celebrating God's Love," and "Sharing God's Gifts."
