File consists of correspondence from Rodney DeMartini, regarding Nouwen's possible participation in the AIDS conference. Includes Nouwen's handwritten notes on the subject of "Living in a Time of Grace" and a letter from Nouwen to DeMartini about his deliberation regarding accepting the invitation to be keynote speaker. [In the end Nouwen did not participate in this conference until 1994 and 1995.]

File consists of correspondence between Jean-Christophe Pascal and Nouwen regarding Nouwen's possible leadership and other responsibilities at the Zone Retreat. Nouwen was to give four talks in the mornings. One letter is in French.

File consists of letters from Anne Lise Timmermann on behalf of Caritas Danmark, two typed letters from Nouwen and information and copies of letters to Timmerman from Mgr. Hussler, leader of Caritas Internationalis, and John Willem Gran, bishop of Oslo, all regarding a Caritas retreat to be held in Magleas, Denmark from December 16 to 19.

Photographs of Nouwen's 60th birthday celebrations

File consists of sixty photographs of Nouwen, wearing a white sweater and dark pants, and other L'Arche Daybreak community members celebrating Nouwen's 60th birthday on January 24, 1992, at the original "Dayspring". The photographs were taken by various unknown photographers, and includes one partially complete roll, many with negatives. In total, there are fifty-two copy prints and nine unprinted negatives.

NCEA Conference - April 17, 1990

File consists of two files containing correspondence and other material regarding Nouwen's participation in the 1990 NCEA (National Catholic Educational Association) Convention in Toronto. Nouwen was the keynote speaker for the Opening Ceremonies giving a talk entitled "The Hidden Treasure." He was also introductory speaker for a peace video entitled "Zabelka: The Reluctant Prophet" produced by Bart Gavigan. Includes substantial handwritten notes, the conference program and newsletter, and other reference material. Also includes letters from Nouwen to some members of Daybreak regarding the convention and their participation in Nouwen's presentation.

Nouwen was to close out the final session "with a challenge to service in the city." The event was hosted by Wesley Chapel Free Methodist Church, Toronto. Includes a letter from Nouwen to Hartley accepting the invitation to speak.
