David Donnell Papers

Douglas Fetherling Papers

Eric Ormsby Papers

This collection contains papers and other material pertaining to the work of Eric Ormsby, a Montreal-based writer and Islamic studies scholar. Born 16 October 1941 in Atlanta, GA, Ormsby, a McGill professor, is the author of several collections of poetry and works of non-fiction. His poems have been published in numerous well-known publications, including The New Republic, The New Yorker, The New Criterion and the Norton Introduction to Literature.

Includes word-processed and holograph versions of numerous poems, including sections of forthcoming collection Time's Covenant, short stories, plays, reviews, and essays. Collection also includes notebooks and mss. dating back to the 1950s, speaking tour information, photographs, personal and professional correspondence, and material related to academic activities in Canada and abroad. Ormsby currently lives in London, England.

Elizabeth Hughes Papers

The collection largely consists of letters written by Hughes to her mother describing her activities and giving information about her health and diabetic condition. The letters dating from August to November 1922 describe Hughes' experiences in Toronto where she was treated with insulin by F.G. Banting. The collection also contains photographs of Hughes and her family, dating from 1907 to 1951.

Sir Edmund Walker Papers

This collection includes 56 boxes and items. The documents consist of personal and business correspondence, articles and addresses, banking and legal documents, estate information, biography information, and other items. The correspondence relates to art and the National Gallery, De Grassi Point, geology, Japanese consul, The Champlain Society, the National Battlefields Commission, the Royal Colonial Institute, the Round Table, University College Alumnae Association Building Committee. There is a significant amount of correspondence from the Canadian Bank of Commerce, the University of Toronto, and the Royal Ontario Museum, and with many prominent individuals in Canada and worldwide as well as letters to Mary before and after they married and messages of condolence received by the family after the death of Sir Edmund Walker. Other documents in the collection relate to the Alexander, Buchan, and Morrow families; the Coronation of King George V and other special events; the Duke of Sutherland's Scheme (Imperial Colonization Corporation of Canada); the West Virginia Debt Settlement; and C. White Mortimer. The items are books, a lace handkerchief, a wooden drawer containing numerous calling cards, card index of pictures and art objects, a framed drawing of the coat of arms, Sir Edmund Walker's certificates and medal upon being admitted as a Knight of the Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem, pieces of the fireplace from Long Garth, a silver vase, a silver bowl, a china plate with Walker crest and logo, and a fishing rod and net.

A collection of David Young's correspondence, literary manuscripts, business papers, and ephemera. Correspondence includes both business and personal matters from the late 1960s to 1995. The literary papers include multiple drafts and the galleys for his novels Incognito and Agent Provocateur, the notes and drafts for some of his most successful dramatic works, among them Fire, and Glenn, and many TV scripts. Also included are several of his adaptations of works by other authors for radio, such as Carol Shield's Swann, and Michael Ondaatje's In the Skin of a Lion and The English Patient. Drafts of works by other authors edited by Young and his own manuscripts edited by others, including Michael Ondaatje, are also included. The business papers relate to The Writer's Union of Canada, The Writers' Trust, The For/Words Foundation, Coach House Press and The Baffin Island Project. The ephemera documents the Toronto arts scene.

2000 Accession: Materials relating to the editing and publication of Descant, the literary journal edited by Karen Mulhallen. Some correspondence includes a manuscript from the writer, or manuscript corrections to manuscripts. The lengthy files of correspondence with the Canadian writers and scholars, Hugh Hood, George Johnston, John Metcalfe, David Solway concern personal as well as literary matters.

Stillman Drake Collection of A. B. Johnson Papers

Contains typed manuscripts made by Drake with holograph notes of A.B. Johnson (1786-1897) pamphlets which he had been unable to buy because of their scarcity; correspondence with Johnson's descendants, scholars, and other Johnson collectors about Johnson, and the 1967 Johnson centennary conference in Uticah, N.Y. Many of Johnson's pamphlets are in the A. B. Johnson Collection.

Douglas Fetherling’s literary papers include drafts, galleys, notes, printed appearances and his art work, as well as significant information on literary works and on well-known and aspiring Canadian authors. Authors forwhom files exist (Atwood, Fulford), are listed in the Container List. There is also correspondence with well-known and alternate presses, such as Fifth House and Broadview Press.

The Fetherling family papers have family correspondence and photographs along with material about Fetherling’s father’s work for an American company that manufactured weapons in the early 1940’s.

Eric Wright Papers

Includes, variously, drafts and edited drafts of published and unpublished works, correspondence, reviews, notes, and other material related to a number of short stories and the following novels: “The Kidnapping of Rosie Dawn”, “A Likely Story”, “Finding Home”, “Dempsey’s Lodge”, and “The Land Mine” (1998-2015). Also includes business correspondence with, and royalty reports from publishers, correspondence and other materials related to a proposed film/television adaptation of “The Night the Gods Smiled”, a number of clippings of Wright’s short stories and essays that appeared in magazines and newspapers (including three translated stories from European publications), clippings of feature articles about or mentioning Wright from newspapers and magazines, and cassette tapes containing interviews with Wright and a 1985 CBC reading of “The Night the Gods Smiled” (1984-2015).
