Content notes (or transcription) from beginning of the recording: It was about 30 years ago that Pere Thomas made the discovery which is at the heart of the Christian message that God has chosen the foolish of the world, the weak to confound the strong. He has chosen those of lowly birth and those who are most despised. So it was that Pere Thomas called me to meet his new friends and so it was that L�Arche was born. It is because of Pere Thomas that we are all here. We too have made that same discovery.

I like to bring up key words or themes. Words form our consciousness. It's important to hold onto certain words. Also it's important to be conscious of minorities. It's a question of culture; so it's important to listen to minorities.

And it's obvious when you go into prisons or talk with an alcoholic. At one moment you touch the hurt. Each of us knows our own hurt. It can even be a little thing, but it was important to us. We all have that reality inside of us. A reality that was sacred to us, but that others didn't see it as sacred.

Content notes (or transcription) from beginning of the recording: Yesterday I was sharing about that text of St. John of the Cross. There is a veil between us and Jesus, which means we have difficulty knowing Jesus. We can then quickly invent our own Jesus. We then can not see the scandalous, vulnerable Jesus. Our God is so surprising, inviting us, but does not impose. Today I want to share more about the veil which hides ourselves from ourselves.

Also, when we receive aggression, that is a difficult thing. There again we often flee or get angry. Basically we can just hide in the office and become non available. The gift of Mary is the gift of the heart, the gift of love and gentle listening to Jesus. The gift of Martha is to serve. Be attentive this week to let Mary come up in you, i.e. to cherish silence, which is difficult. Yet silence is the place where we meet Jesus.
