File contains a workbook, the "Public School Writing Course," completed by Jessie Reid. This workbook was intended to develop a pupil's penmanship skills.

Photographs

Series contains photographs from the railway car schools. Most of the photographs in this series are undated, but will have been taken sometime between 1926 and 1967, when the railway car schools were in operation. Photographs include views of students, students' families, teachers, teachers' families, classes, activities, and exterior and interior views of the rail car, the classroom space, and the teacher's living quarters.

Most of the photographs in this series are copies obtained from a variety of sources, including: the Archives of Ontario, the Canadian Pacific Railways, the Canadian National Railways, the Province of Ontario Picture Bureau (Lantern Slide Department), the Toronto Star, and Life Magazine.

Judith and Elizabeth St. John Materials

Series contains materials belonging to Judith and Elizabeth St. John. These materials include a medal "For Healthy Toronto," event programmes and invitations, certificates, newspaper clippings, class notes on health, and a photograph.

Series contains materials belonging to A. L. Humphreys as a student at Toronto Normal School. Materials in this series include correspondence, certificates, blank report cards, and an examination timetable.

School Records - Brampton Grammar School

File contains a book belonging to Geoff Robinson, appointed Headmaster to Brampton Grammar School in August 1869. The records in this book date from 1869 to 1871 and include statistics, class lists, grades, and examination schedules.

Anonymous

Series contains five books with no ownership marks. These books contain samples of Froebelian work and would have been created during the creator's time as a student Kindergartener. Although undated, these books would most likely have been created during the early 1900s.

Frank Sampson

File contains three certificates issued to Frank Sampson:

1) A Certificate of Merit issued by the City of Toronto Public Schools in June 1892, for proficiency in the combined examination of public school pupils;
2) A certificate from the Collegiate Institutes and High Schools of Ontario, issued in July 1893, certifying that Frank Sampson had passed the entrance exam; and
3) A certificate issued by the Trustees of the Collegiate Institutes of the City of Toronto on 20 July 1893, awarding Frank Sampson a scholarship for two years of free study.

Franklin Kenward

File contains a teaching contract between Franklin Kenward and the Public School Trustees of the Village of Watford, signed October 6, 1886.

R. Douglas Lloyd Materials

Series contains materials belonging to R. Douglas Lloyd as a pupil at Oriole Park School Toronto. These materials include a Junior 4th Form report card from Oriole Park School, a book cover, a workbook (likely from Senior 2nd Form), and a spelling book.

TNO School Car

File contains photographs of the TNO School Car. Photographs include views of students in the classroom and standing outside the rail car.

Mary W. Lamb

File contains three handwritten contracts between Mary W. Lamb and the Public School Trustees of Section No. Six in the Township of Warwick in the County of Lambton, signed December 14, 1875, December 18, 1876, and August 20, 1877.

Canadian History

File contains one binder of notes for Form 2 Canadian History class. The structure of the binder consists of cardboard covers that hold loose leaf pages. The page count includes a 27-page appendix of world maps.

James E. Burchell

File contains a letter to a public school trustee of the Township of Marlborough applying to a teaching position. The trustee's response was written on the reverse of the page.

Lucile Dowsett Materials

Series contains materials belonging to Lucile Dowsett, an Ontario teacher during the Great Depression. These materials include an event programme, a copy of department resolutions, a Normal School lesson card, an examination schedule, examination papers, and teaching newsletters.

Folding

File contains one accordion book with increasingly complex patterns of intricate folded paper pasted in, coloured pencil drawings, and perforated pages with thread sewn through in patterns.

Reports

Series consists of photocopies from the annual Report of the Department of Education of pages discussing the railway car schools from 1926 to 1957. Series also contains two copies of a "Report on the Car Schools of Northern Ontario 1926-1967," published in 1975.

CNR School Car No. 4

File contains photographs of the CNR School Car No. 4. Photographs include views of students, teachers, classes, and exterior and interior views of the rail car, the classroom space, and the teacher's living quarters.

File also contains a letter pertaining to a 1952 visit to this school car, made by a photographer from Life Magazine.
