Material relating to Victoria College

Series consists of various items relating to Victoria College, 1836–1884, including account books, reports, memoranda and lists.

The final box in the collection is comprised of material relating to university matters. The financial records of Victoria are followed by a number of documents gathered in the course of Nelles' work as an administrator. In addition, there is a scrapbook of newspaper clippings (mostly letters to the editor) dealing with the university question between 1857 and 1859.

Records related in finance and investments

Series consists of records related to the University's finances and investments. Included are account books and ledgers, financial journals, financial daybooks, cash books, subscription books for fund raising, and other financial record books. Also includes some miscellaneous financial records as well as those related to the Pension Plan, annual financial statements and reports, procedure manuals, and budgets as well as financial oversight of student organizations.
Also consists of correspondence, minutes and articles relating to social responsibility in investments for the United Church of Canada and affiliated or related institutions, as well as policies and guidelines for investments and endowment spending.

Records related to the Board and Senate

Sub-series consists of records related to the Registrar's activities in relation to the Board of Regents and the Senate of Victoria University. The Registrar is involved in the elections of both bodies and acts as the secretary to the Senate. Records relate to the administration of elections, participation in Senate committees, annual reports and statistics summaries presented to the Board and Senate as well as correspondence.

Records of the Plans and Building Committee

Sub-series consists of the Secretary’s correspondence, reports, and financial records re the design, construction, and furnishing of the buildings, 1928–1932; correspondence of the Committee Chairman, 1928–1932; correspondence, proposals, and architectural designs and plans for women's’ residences, 1927–1930.

Records related to events

Series consists of correspondence, programs, guest lists and other records relating to special events, predominantly installations, 1931–1981. Series also consists of addresses, statistics and other records relating to a one-day open conference entitled “Give Us This Day,” 1981.

Writing and memorabilia

Series consists of various writings, including extracts, notes and reflections, 1848–1886; and personal memorabilia, including Victoria College programmes and material after Nelles death, 1846–1902.

Box 14 holds written material which does not fall into any of the previously mentioned categories. It includes scripture studies, religious meditations, selected extracts from a variety of sources, and miscellaneous notes. The box also contains an assortment of personal documents and memorabilia, including a scrapbook on Nelles completed after his death by J.G. Hodgins.

Series consists of minutes, correspondence, reports, and supporting records of the Finance and Property Committee. Series also contains one file of Minutes from the Financial Management and Planning Committee, the successor of the Finance and Property Committee.

Records related to inter-institutional agreements and cooperation.

Consists of records relating to the establishment and management of partnerships, inter-institutional collaborations and cooperative activities as well as institutional agreements. Records relate to the United Church of Canada, Deans' and Principal's of UCC schools, the United Church Training School and Church Conferences (including records for candidacy of graduates), the Toronto School of Theology, the University of Toronto, Knox College, Trinity College, as well as other national and local ecumenical organizations

Records relating to financial administration

Series consists of correspondence, minutes, reports and other records, 1905-2000, relating to financial administration, including bequests, endowments, government grants, and pensions.

The records in accession 1989.130V consist of correspondence, minutes and reports of a primarily financial nature. Some of the files outline Victoria's financial arrangements with the Board of Colleges and Secondary Schools and its successor divisions within the United Church of Canada; others provide information about the workings of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada and its predecessors, the National Conference of Canadian Universities and the Canadian Universities Foundation and the politics of federal and provincial government grants to denominational institutions of higher education. The financial reports of the men's and women's residences are included, as are files on bequests, endowments, and the United Church's financial aid package for undergraduates who had been accepted as candidates for the ministry. The arrangements made between the University of Toronto and Victoria regarding reimbursement of Victoria faculty for supervising graduate work are detailed.

Series consists of annual reports (incomplete), 1898-2003; reports (including those to Victoria University bodies), questionnaires, evaluations, manuals, newsletters, statistics, occasional papers, policies and statements on acquisitions, public service, facilities and other areas of activity, 1878-2006.

Series consists of records relating to committees, 1890–1904, inluding the Board of Regents, committee on the Jubilee, and the Executive Committee meeting

Sub-series consists of meeting minutes and the correspondence of the Secretary. Also consists of contracts and other legal records, records regarding furnishings, structural, mechanical and electrical specifications as well as architectural drawings.

Hodgetts, Goldwin S. French, and Eva Kushner.
