Board formation

File contains the letters patent of incorporation for “The Aldeburgh Connection Concert Society” and related correspondence; documents pertaining to their tax exempt status as a registered charity; and board member lists from 1986, 1990, 1994, 2008, and 2018.

Fundraising : Canadian Aldeburgh foundation

File contains correspondence from the Canadian Aldeburgh Foundation to the Aldeburgh Connection. The Canadian Aldeburgh Foundation, a separate entity from the Aldeburgh Connection, was established in 1975 (letters patent obtained on September 4, 1975) under the patronage of Sir Peter Pears by Françoise and Marshall Sutton to provide travel bursaries to Canadian students to attend the Britten-Pears Young Artists' Programme in Aldeburgh, England. It was renamed the Art Song Foundation of Canada (ASFC) in 2015. The Canadian Aldeburgh Foundation contributed funds to support Aldeburgh Connection publicity and various concerts at the beginning of the Aldeburgh Connection's existence. The file also contains correspondence regarding charitable foundation sponsorship.

Early promotional material

File contains two reports that include the history of the organization, expenses, and audience response analysis. The reports were used to apply for funding for the organization.

File contains correspondence regarding two grants for support of the Discovery Series (including performances at the Bayfield Festival of Song and recital in Walter Hall and at the Arts and Letters Club) and for support of the Archiving Project.

File contains the Aldeburgh Connection’s ledger, which contains records of their disbursements, receipts, bank debits and credits, ticket sales, donations, performer fees, venue rentals, promotional costs, grants, and budgets.

Fundraising : other foundations

File contains a list of possible foundations for funding, and correspondence from various one-time donors, including The Bel Canto Foundation, IBM Matching Grant, George Cedric Metcalf Charitable Foundation, Morgan Bank of Canada, George Lunan Foundation, and Iain W. Scott.

Financial : rental of performing space

File contains invoices, rental agreements, and correspondence with the Faculty of Music regarding the rental of Walter Hall, which was used for the Aldeburgh Connection's Sunday Afternoon Concert Series.

Financial : governments

File contains correspondence regarding funding grants with the Canadian High Commission (London, England); the Ministry of Citizenship and Culture (Ontario); the Ontario Arts Council; the Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto; and the Toronto Arts Council.

Board minutes

File contains minutes for the Aldeburgh Connection’s Board of Directors’ bi-annual meetings (Spring and Fall), including the artistic directors’ (Stephen Ralls and Bruce Ubukata) update and plans for the following season and financial reports. As part of one of the later meetings, the file also includes a report on the design and development of the Aldeburgh Connection archive.

Archive launch

File contains a record of donors, correspondence, guest list, invitations, and programs for the launch event of the Aldeburgh Connection archive, held at Massey College on October 17, 2015.

The food of love : Vancouver

File includes speaking notes, programs, and correspondence regarding a concert hosted by Pacific Contact 1989 in Vancouver, British Columbia. The file includes annotated, photocopied scores and a manuscript arrangement of Let’s do it by Cole Porter used in the concert.

Opera in the drawing room

File includes a program, correspondence, speaking and research notes, and annotated scores for a concert by Barbara Ianni, Deborah Milsom, Theresa Lee Ryan, Robert Grenier, John Lehr, James McLean, Daniel Neff, Bruce Ubukata, and Stephen Ralls at Hart House. The file also includes one page of music with three handwritten measures of Franz Schubert’s Ständchen for alto, tenor, and bass voices.
