A.F.W. Plumptre fonds

The fonds serves as a representative sample of the activities carried out, and the relationships engendered, during A.F.W. Plumptre's tenure as principal of Scarborough College from 1965 to 1972. Both official papers and personal documents are included. Official documents include: reports, correspondence, transcripts of speeches, and seating plans. Personal documents include: invitations, cards, photograph albums, clippings, publications, books, and artifacts.

Magazines

File includes two magazines: The Architectural Forum (May 1966); artscanada (August/September 1967). Both magazines depict Scarborough College on their front covers and include extensive articles on the architecture of the college.

Dan Bender Zoo collection

The collection consists of movie posters, ads, trading cards, postcards, books, magazines and journals, related to Frank Buck (Frank Howard Buck (1884-1950), a renowned American hunter, animal collector, film director, actor author and producer. The collection also consists of material related to zoo displays and architecture, catalogues and books related to zoo and animal collecting, photographs off various zoo related animals found in different parts of America and a board game. The material is divided into five series:

  1. Frank Buck
  2. Chimpanzee performance
  3. Zoo Architecture and display
  4. Miscellaneous printed materials.
  5. Zoo photographs

Frank Buck

The series contains material related to Frank Buck the animal hunter, movie actor, producer, director and author. Material consists of ads, movie stills, books (primarily in comic book style), and trading cards.

Field book of Insects

File includes Urquhart's copy of Fieldbook of Insects by Frank E. Lutz (published 1921). Second edition, revised and enlarged, with about 800 illustrations, many in colour. 561 pages.

Front end page is inscribed "Frederick A. Urquhart July 14-33, 3rd Biology, 55 Hammersmith Ave, Toronto" in black ink. Book is in very poor condition - front cover has come unattached, binding fabric on spine torn, several pages loose or unbound, extensive discolouration to end papers. Some attempts have been made to repair the book with tape.

The Moth Book

File includes Urquhart's copy of The Moth Book: A Popular Guide to a Knowledge of the Moths of North America by W. J. Holland (published 1934 by Doubleday, Doran & Company, Inc.). Includes 48 colour plates. 479 pages. Front end page is inscribed "Frederick Urquhart, 66 Willow Ave Toronto". Book is in poor condition - binding fabric on spine is tearing, discolouration on end papers, some loose pages.

Photographic Prints

Series C: Photographic Prints contains all of photograph prints that were housed in paper folders and filing cabinets in the office of Ken Jones. The folders were arranged by subject. For the most part, folders are labelled by subject but the folders and some photographs were out of order when the records were transferred to UTSC Library. In some cases, folders contain photos that do not reflect the subject of the original folder label.
