It is assumed that Allen Linden’s records were transferred to Stephen Clarkson at some point either because Clarkson took over as chair of the policy committee or collected as a primary resource for his research on the Liberal Party. Records are arranged in the primarily chronological order, keeping the original order imposed by Clarkson, with LPC-related records first and LPO-related documents second.
Records in this series mainly document Allen M. Linden’s active role as a member of the Liberal Party of Ontario (LPO) executive and the Liberal Party of Canada (LPC) national executive. Records relating to Mr. Linden’s role in the LPC national executive include correspondence between him and other members of various committees on which he sat, minutes from committee meetings and reports, speeches, notes, and newspaper clippings. Also included are records specifically pertaining to Linden’s role as Chair of the LPC National Policy Committee, member of the Standing Committee, Chairman of the 1969 Caucus Conference, Co-chairman for the Policy Committee (1969) and Chairman of the Planning Committee for the Second Ontario Caucus Conference of 1969.
Records relating to Mr. Linden’s role in the LPO executive document his participation in the 1970 election campaign of Robert F. Dixon and the 1976 election campaign of Mark MacGuigan, as well as his work as a member of Candidates Committee for the 1973 LPO Convention and the LPO Standing Committee on Policy and Research for 1976. They include correspondence, notes, memorandums, reports, minutes of meetings and memos. Records also document Stephen Clarkson’s role as the Chairman for the LPO Policy Committee for 1969.
Also included is correspondence between Mr. Linden and the Liberal Party regarding his expense accounts.
