This collection includes correspondence, minute books, administrative records, legal documents, photographs, scrapbooks and printed materials generated by the Alliance and many of its branches from 1888 to 1979. The second part of the collection includes records and artifacts from the renamed Alliance: the People for Sunday Association of Canada, from 1982 until its dissolution in 1994. There is also material from other organizations concerned with Sunday observance.

As a futurist, Russel’s operated several businesses, most specifically, Orba Information (also called Orbafilm and Orba Inc), which operated between 1967 and 1993, which is archived in great detail, a smaller amount of information on later businesses including Rapid Response Inc., Toronto, Institute for Research on Public Policy and The Consortium for National Development is also available. Collection also contains drafts, proposals, budgets and storyboards surrounding Russel’s personal creative writing, including The Spark, a proposed television program and I am Haida, a proposed CD-ROM and game on Haida culture, and novels – The Petrans and Clone.

Collection contains personal and professional papers relating to Howard Engel. These papers contain extensive material on the novels,
books, screenplays, playscripts and radio episodes of Engel. This notably includes drafts for all fourteen novels in the Benny Cooperman series, many including prolific drafts with holograph and editorial revisions. Also included in the collection are extensive drafts for Engel’s final Cooperman novel, Over the River, which was slated to be published in both 2016 and 2018 but was eventually cancelled by the publisher, along with the complete drafts for two unpublished Benny Cooperman novels, and partial drafts and outlines for three additional novels. In addition to his fictional writing, the archives include poetry, articles, reviews, and drafts and proofs for his works of non-fiction. In particular, there are extensive drafts for the memoir of his 2001 stroke, The Man Who Forgot How to Read, the book was originally intended as an autobiography and several earlier drafts exist which detail Engel’s childhood, adolescence and adulthood. During the process of recovering from his stroke, Engel became acquainted with Oliver Sacks, who would later pen an article on Engel in The New Yorker and would go-on to write the afterword of Engel’s memoir. Their extensive correspondence, along with several drafts of Sacks is also present. In addition to material related to Engel’s professional career as a writer, including photographs and press clippings, as well as speeches given over the course of several decades. Engel’s career as a journalist, writer and producer at the CBC is well-documented through scripts and research written or produced by Engel, which is further augmented by audio tapes and reels. The personal life of Engel is well-documented through a nearly complete set of diaries dating between 1991 and 2019, with additional diaries dating from the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s and 1980s, as well as photographs, mementos and through correspondence of a personal and professional nature. The collection contains manuscripts written by other writers, often sent to Engel for feedback or as gifts, this includes drafts or proofs from Kildare Dobbs, Mavis Gallant, Eric Wright and Jack Batten.

The bulk of the materials related to Daisy Dotsch’s professional life: the running of Vaughan Cooperative Nursery School (particularly after it moved to Vaughan Road in 1950 through Dotsch’s retirement in 1972.), materials related to Dotsch’s teaching and professional development, and materials related to the nursery school organizations she belonged to. Contains the papers of Joan Treble (Sutton) Straus including a small amount of material regarding her early life including primary and high school education (1939-1950), as well as at her time at the University of Toronto (1950-1953). Includes material such as photographs and newspaper clippings related to her modeling career and her work as a fashion consultant (1952-1970). The collection covers Sutton Straus’ career as a journalist with the Toronto Telegram (1971), The Toronto Star (1972-1979, 1981-1992) and The Toronto Star (1979-1981, 1992). This includes correspondence from readers, co-workers and well-known politicians, entertainers and dignitaries, as well as photographs of Sutton Straus during the course of her work. The material also includes clippings of her columns, interviews and articles preserved by Sutton Straus, as well as three oversized scrapbooks containing clippings from her time at the Toronto Telegram and The Toronto Sun. The collection also comprises material related to Sutton Straus’ career as an author of six books, and her long-term volunteer work with non-profit and philanthropic organizations in both Canada and the United States. The collection also contains a small amount of personal material related to Sutton Straus including media appearances, speeches, newspaper and magazines articles, invitations and correspondence.

Terry Watada’s second accession primarily contains material relating to his publications, most notably drafts and proofs for two novels: Kuroshio: The Blood of Foxes and The Three Pleasures. The papers also include drafts and correspondence pertaining to individual

poetry submissions as well as his published work: Ten Thousand Views of Rain, Obon: The Festival of the Dead and The Game of 100 Ghosts. The collection includes correspondence, drafts and promotional material for Watada’s contribution to anthologies, as well as his involvement in cultural and academic conferences and events.

Collection contains personal and professional papers pertaining to Robertson Davies. This includes material relating to Davies’ early life, including writing and acting as a student at Upper Canada College (1929-1932), his studies at Baillol College at Oxford (1935-1938), and participation in theatrical performances in Kingston, Oxford, the Old Vic Theatre, Peterborough and the Stratford Festival (1934-1960). The papers contain a small amount of material related to Davies’ career as a journalist at Saturday Night magazine and the Peterborough Examiner. These papers contain extensive material on the novels, books and writing of Davies. This includes drafts, proofs, correspondence, reviews, clippings and any stage adaptations of his novels from The Salterton Trilogy (Tempest-Tost, Leaven of Malice and A Mixture of Frailties), The Deptford Trilogy (Fifth Business, The Manticore and World of Wonders), The Cornish Trilogy (The Rebel Angels, What’s Bred in the Bone and The Lyre of Orpheus) and the incomplete Toronto Trilogy (Murther and Walking Spirits and The Cunning Man). Also included are a complete set of original drafts and woodcuts for the Penguin edition covers of Davies’ novels, which were designed by the American printmaker Bascove. Limited material related to his essays, short stories and non-fiction publications, notably including Shakespeare’s Boy Actors, A Voice from the Attic, High Spirits and his books of fictional essays by Samuel Marchbanks are a part of the papers. Additionally, the collection includes considerable records relating to Davies’ contributions to anthologies as well as professional writing in academic journals, newspapers and magazines. These papers encompass Davies’ career as a playwright, including material related to twenty-two original works including drafts, scripts, photographs, posters, playbills and clippings, as well as the complete papers relating to the production of The Golden Ass which was staged after Davies’ death. The collection contains a large sampling of correspondence of both a professional and personal nature spanning from 1934 to his death in 1995. Also included in the collection is material related to the professional career of Davies’ as a well-known Canadian writer, this includes photographs and press clippings as well as speeches and commentaries made by Davies and his awards. Records also pertain to academic and trade writing on Davies and his work, most notably a complete set of interviews conducted with family, friends, colleagues and acquaintances by Val Ross during the course of her writing Robertson Davies: A Portrait in Mosaic (2009). Papers also relate to the eighteen years Davies spent as the Master of Massey College beginning in 1963. Including articles on the founding of Massey College, the death of Vincent Massey, newsletters, teaching material and invitations and programmes for the annual Christmas Gaudy, printed on the Massey College Press. Also included is a small amount of personal records including travel records, calendars, real estate and list of personal effects. Finally, the collection contains a series dedicated to the collecting practices of Dr. Rick Davis, who collected and assembled these papers. This includes Davis’ invoices and notes for his Davies material, as well as correspondence including exchanges with Robertson Davies, Moira Whalon, Brenda Davies and Jennifer Surridge.

Collection consists of seven oral history interviews of LGBTQ2+ activists, UTM students and alumni, and residents of the Peel Region (Mississauga and Brampton) in Ontario, Canada. Interviews were conducted by students enrolled in the undergraduate course HIS395S LGBTQ2+ Oral History: Queer Peel offered at the University of Toronto Mississauga in the 2020 winter term.

Fonds also contains audio and video recordings of performances and lectures.

Fonds consists of records created, accumulated, and used by Doug Riley between the years 1966-2007. The majority of the records in this fonds is sheet music resulting from collaborations with other musicians, arrangements by Doug Riley, or original compositions. Although the fonds consists largely of jazz music, there is a wide variety of genres including classical music represented. Audio recordings could prove useful in the understanding of Doug Riley's performances or musical techniques.

Throughout his career Doug Riley collaborated in a variety of projects including composing music for theatre, television, awards shows, and social events. The fonds includes evidence of these projects including scripts, itineraries, storyboards, etc.

Also included in the fonds is correspondence between Doug Riley and other prominent figures in the music industry. Many set lists included in the fonds could provide insights into the performances of Doug Riley.

Fonds consists of the administrative, financial, and performance records of the Aldeburgh Connection. Most of the fonds consists of materials created for, and as a result of, each concert produced by the Aldeburgh Connection, including promotional materials, scripts, annotated scores, correspondence, research notes, and reviews. The fonds also contains textual materials from the production of the Aldeburgh Connection’s recording projects, promotional events, board minutes, complete financial records, and correspondence regarding their fundraising efforts.

Fonds consists of the compositions, recordings, and papers of Derek Holman, a former professor at the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto. The fonds contains manuscript scores and parts by Derek Holman, including original compositions, arrangements and realizations, juvenilia, and sketch materials; audio and video recordings of Holman’s compositions and performances; papers and photographs from Holman’s work with various choirs and churches (including at the University of London, University of Toronto, University of Trinity College, Bishop-Strachan, Royal School of Church Music, St. Simon’s, Concord Singers, Croydon Bach Society, Grace Church-on-the-Hill, and the Canadian Children’s Opera Company); and, Holman’s personal papers, including awards, certificates, degrees, and notebooks.

Collection consists of electronic music compositions created at the University of Toronto Electronic Music Studio (UTEMS) and copies of tapes made at other electronic music studios around the world. The collection includes the two original card-catalogue indices for the tape collection, organized by tape number and by composer, and accompanying reports and manuals used in the studio.

Collection consists of approximately 6,500 78 rpm records, and the personal papers of one of its collectors, John Stratton. Stratton's personal papers provide contextual information about one of the collectors of the "Stratton-Clarke Collection," and primary source material relating to his research of historical vocal recordings and recording practices.

The 78 rpm record collection spans nearly the entire history of 78 rpm record production, from acoustic recordings to early electronic recordings and beyond, covering the first half of the twentieth century. The recordings are primarily pressed on shellac discs, ranging from 7 to 14 inches on diameter, and capture performances of approximately 1,000 vocalists, performing the works of more than 900 different composers on at least 100 different labels. The collection was loosely built on four of Stratton's main interests regarding historical vocal recordings: the "Golden age of singing" (pre World War One); the Mapleson recordings (live Metropolitan Opera performances captured on wax cylinders by Lionel Mapleson between 1900 and 1904); Canadian performers; and pre-revolutionary Russian recordings (pre-1917). The collection includes unpublished and test pressings, as well as published materials.

The collection includes manuscripts of his compositions; administrative and financial documents relating to commissions with orchestras, performers, and publishers; and materials generated from the performance of these compositions (including recordings, programs, reviews, and program notes). Other records relate to workshops that Colgrass led, particularly his Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) workshops and Colgrass' writings, including poetry, articles, manuscripts and notes for his books, and correspondence with friends and colleagues.
