Anthony Salvin Papers

The collection consists of architectural drawings for various projects by the British architect Salvin. Drawings are either executed by Salvin himself or by other architects or draughtsmen in his office. Additional material includes: 8 photographs of Salvin projects; 5 drawings by Salvin's wife, Anne Andrews (Nesfield) Salvin; a catalogue of Salvin's library at Elmshurst; and engravings of British cathedrals.

Mary L. Northway Papers

A collection of Mary Northway's personal and professional papers. These include her work as a lecturer in the Department of Psychology at the University of Toronto 1933-1958, but mainly relate to her career as a lecturer and eventually director of research of the Institute of Child Study, University of Toronto, 1938-1968; and her work as director of Brora Institute, 1969-1978. Included are research notes and charts relating to her work in sociometry, and drafts, manuscripts and typescripts of many of her writings, as well as copies of her published works. Related collections are the W.E. Blatz collection in the Fisher Library and the Northway papers at Trent University.

Consists of papers relating to the family of William Oelschlager including correspondence from him to his family, journals of his trips to Manitoba and to Europe, drafts of his report to the Minister of Agriculture and his letter to the Mayor and Council of the town of Berlin, passports of other family members, extract from a birth certificate, autograph albums and two issues of the Daily Telegraph (Berlin) Ont. with an account of his funeral and that of his grand-daughter Martha. Explanatory notes about the Oelschlager Family by his great grand-daughter, Joyce Brown, are included.

A collection of fifty-one watercolours and drawings of Canadian scenes by Sir Edmund Walker Head and Lady Head. They were made when Sir Edmund was Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick (1848-1854) and Governor-General of Canada (1854-1861). A fragment in Lady Head's hand from the cover of the portfolio in which many of the sketches were kept is also included.

This collection consists primarily of a long sequence of letters from Alex Colville to Helen Dow, many of which contain detailed comments on individual paintings as well as on his aesthetic and philosophical views. In addition, there is correspondence from Colville's wife, Rhoda, thanking Dow for small gifts, and from his daughter, Ann, who worked at Fischer Fine Art Ltd., in London, England, the firm handling Colville's English sales. There is also a copy of Colville's B.A. thesis.

The collection contains a variety of business, personal and family correspondence, photographs, drawings and paintings, printed appearances and materials, galleys, and notebooks as well as Fetherling’s correspondence files, 1959 to 1990.

Douglas Fetherling’s literary papers include drafts, galleys, notes, printed appearances and his art work, as well as significant information on literary works and on well-known and aspiring Canadian authors. Authors forwhom files exist (Atwood, Fulford), are listed in the Container List. There is also correspondence with well-known and alternate presses, such as Fifth House and Broadview Press.

The Fetherling family papers have family correspondence and photographs along with material about Fetherling’s father’s work for an American company that manufactured weapons in the early 1940’s.

The collection also contains the papers (contracts, proposals, financial statements, correspondence, notes, scripts, reviews of past productions, publicity and productions notes) of unrealized project possibilities.

Johnson (1786-1897) pamphlets which he had been unable to buy because of their scarcity; correspondence with Johnson's descendants, scholars, and other Johnson collectors about Johnson, and the 1967 Johnson centennary conference in Uticah, N.Y. Collection of lecture notes and miscellaneous material relating to the philosophy of Sankara, a seventh century Hindu philospher. The lectures were delivered by Miss B.S.A. de Branconiere, also identified as 'Guru Sahasrara Satchitananda,' to the student members of the Oriental Literature Society of California. She is described as "an accredited Messenger from the Sankaracharya School of Philosophy, France." The collection also contains an Esoteric Dictionary which was compiled by Mary Elizabeth Gilmore in the mid-1950s. The Dictionary contains definitions of philosophical and literary terms drawn from the lectures. It appears Gilmore gathered and arranged the lectures in their present form sometime in the mid-1930s.
