Alice and Lilian Dent

Series contains records and sample work produced by Lilian and Alice Dent, who worked as Kindergartners in Toronto for many years. Lilian Dent took her kindergarten training in New York (1898-1899), while Alice Dent was trained later in Toronto. Series includes certificates, photographs, pamphlets, notebooks, and samples for Froebelian work.

Isabel Harris

Series contains three books produced by Isabel Harris as a student Kindergartener in London, Ontario during the 1901-1902 academic year. Series also contains a copy of the 1906 edition of Froebel's "Mother Play and Nursery Songs."

Anonymous

Series contains five books with no ownership marks. These books contain samples of Froebelian work and would have been created during the creator's time as a student Kindergartener. Although undated, these books would most likely have been created during the early 1900s.

Correspondence

Series contains four files of correspondence related to the railway car schools. This correspondence includes letters between the Canadian National Railways, the Ontario Department of Education, and individual car school teachers, as well as internal interdepartmental correspondence. This correspondence addresses topics such as the establishment, management, and operation of the railway car schools.

Each file has been arranged into sets of correspondence, as follows:

Please note that all materials in this series are photocopies, many of which have been obtained from Library and Archives Canada (then the National Archives of Canada).

Contract

Series consists of one photocopy of a three-page contract between the Ontario Department of Education and the Temiskaming and Northern Ontario Railway Commission to establish a new railway car school along this rail line, dated 1938.

Memoranda

Series consists of assorted Department of Education memoranda related to the railway car schools. Documents are photocopies obtained from the Archives of Ontario.

Articles

Series consists of newspaper clippings and photocopies of newspaper and magazine articles on the topic of the railway car schools.

Reports

Series consists of photocopies from the annual Report of the Department of Education of pages discussing the railway car schools from 1926 to 1957. Series also contains two copies of a "Report on the Car Schools of Northern Ontario 1926-1967," published in 1975.

Exhibit Materials

Series contains textual materials used in a display case for an exhibit on railway car schools put on by the OISE Library in October 1988. Series also contains several copies of a handout from the same exhibit.

Photographs

Series contains photographs from the railway car schools. Most of the photographs in this series are undated, but will have been taken sometime between 1926 and 1967, when the railway car schools were in operation. Photographs include views of students, students' families, teachers, teachers' families, classes, activities, and exterior and interior views of the rail car, the classroom space, and the teacher's living quarters.

Most of the photographs in this series are copies obtained from a variety of sources, including: the Archives of Ontario, the Canadian Pacific Railways, the Canadian National Railways, the Province of Ontario Picture Bureau (Lantern Slide Department), the Toronto Star, and Life Magazine.

Program Administration

Series contains documents related to the operation of the National Farm Radio Forum. These documents include meeting minutes, correspondence, reports, surveys, broadcast programming, and copies of Farm Forum Guides.

Program Development

Series contains records related to program development from the 1960s. This program development included the Agriculture Rehabilitation and Development Administration as well as a committee exploring the future of the Farm Radio Forum.

Rural Sociology

Series contains records on the subject of rural sociology. These records include reports, conference transcripts, articles, studies, correspondence, surveys, pamphlets, newsletters, and a bibliography.

Certificates

Series contains educational certificates, including certificates for passing entrance exams, grade promotion certificates, graduation certificates, teaching certifications, and grade reports.

Teaching Appointments

Series contains materials related to the hire of teachers in Ontario schools.

Series contains two subseries: letters of application and teaching contracts.

School Administration

Series contains records related to the operation of schools. These records include meeting minutes, school accounts, student rolls, grades, correspondence, inspection reports, examination papers, contracts, insurance policies, leases, and bylaws.

Student Work

Series contains work produced by students at Ontario schools from the mid-1800s to the mid-1900s. Student work includes compositions and examination papers written by students, artwork produced by students, and workbooks from across all subjects.

Series contains four subseries according to type of student work.

Lucile Dowsett Materials

Series contains materials belonging to Lucile Dowsett, an Ontario teacher during the Great Depression. These materials include an event programme, a copy of department resolutions, a Normal School lesson card, an examination schedule, examination papers, and teaching newsletters.

R. Douglas Lloyd Materials

Series contains materials belonging to R. Douglas Lloyd as a pupil at Oriole Park School Toronto. These materials include a Junior 4th Form report card from Oriole Park School, a book cover, a workbook (likely from Senior 2nd Form), and a spelling book.

A. L. Humphreys Materials

Series contains materials belonging to A. L. Humphreys as a student at Toronto Normal School. Materials in this series include correspondence, certificates, blank report cards, and an examination timetable.

Judith and Elizabeth St. John Materials

Series contains materials belonging to Judith and Elizabeth St. John. These materials include a medal "For Healthy Toronto," event programmes and invitations, certificates, newspaper clippings, class notes on health, and a photograph.

North Toronto Collegiate Institute

Series contains records and notebooks documenting Turner's secondary education at North Toronto Collegiate Institute. Content includes a notebook for every class completed in Forms 1-5, as well as donation information, teacher lists, and yearbook photos.

Maurice Cody School

Series contains records and notebooks documenting Vernon G. Turner's primary education at Maurice Cody Public School (later named Maurice Cody Public Junior School). Content includes school records and report cards, art work, subject and homework notebooks.

Teaching Materials

This series contains materials used and made for those who are teaching or using Blissymbolics. It includes official teacher's guides published by Blissymbolics Communication Institute - Canada, activity kits made and used by BCIC, as well as copies of children's books in a variety of languages which use or have been translated into Blissymbolics for young children.

Blissymbolics - International

This series contains a variety of materials related to the international community of Blissymbolics. It includes material from BCIC affiliates and partners, research, teaching materials, and workshops on Blissymbolics, as well as Bliss user communication displays and textual creations. This series also contains children's books written in Blissymbols, some with translations in a variety of languages. The majority of this series consists of non-English material.

Student Records and Research

Series contains student documents, evaluations, and progress reports, as well as research based on student use of Blissymbolics. All material within this series is restricted and only available for research purposes with permission from Blissymbolics Communication Institute.
