Eric Ormsby Papers

This collection contains papers and other material pertaining to the work of Eric Ormsby, a Montreal-based writer and Islamic studies scholar. Born 16 October 1941 in Atlanta, GA, Ormsby, a McGill professor, is the author of several collections of poetry and works of non-fiction. His poems have been published in numerous well-known publications, including The New Republic, The New Yorker, The New Criterion and the Norton Introduction to Literature.

Includes word-processed and holograph versions of numerous poems, including sections of forthcoming collection Time's Covenant, short stories, plays, reviews, and essays. Collection also includes notebooks and mss. dating back to the 1950s, speaking tour information, photographs, personal and professional correspondence, and material related to academic activities in Canada and abroad. Ormsby currently lives in London, England.

Maureen Scott Harris Papers

This accession of Maureen Scott Harris’ papers include materials relating to writing and literary projects (undertaken by the author individually or with collaborators); drafts and proofs for the Fieldnotes Chapbooks series; a significant amount of correspondence with specific individuals (Lynda Lange, Norma Lundberg, Barry Dempster, Irene McGuire), as well as general professional correspondence; course packs and notes relating to an Environmental Issues class at the University of Toronto, for which Scott Harris was a guest lecturer; materials used in the organization of various literary events and readings; along with books, pamphlets and a small amount of AV material.

Maureen Scott Harris Papers

This accession of Maureen Scott Harris’ papers includes a significant amount of correspondence, both personal and professional. It also contains material relating to the Renga 9 collaborative poetry project, and to a number of Fieldnotes publications: The Original Title by Elizabeth Hay (2016), The Spaces Between by Christina McCallum (2016), and Wilderness on the Page by John Steffler (2017). Also included are numerous drafts of Scott Harris’ works At the Exact Speed Necessary / Learning My Father’s Death (2005-2016), and Waters Remembered (2015), along with travel diaries, personal calendars and photographs, and a number of poetry chapbooks published in Canada.

Dora Mavor Moore Papers

This collection consists of correspondence, scripts, photos, clippings, theatre programs and tapes covering the personal and professional career of Dora Mavor Moore. Robert Finch Papers, Gift of John C. Cairns

Includes 50 year correspondence between Robert Finch and John C. Cairns (1947-1995), as well as audio cassette recordings of Finch reading his poetry, speaking and playing the piano (recorded in the 1980s). The Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library also holds Robert Finch’s papers, which were accessioned in 1992, 1996 and 1997 (see MS Coll 324), which contains correspondence from John C. Cairns, as well as some carbon copies of letters written by Finch for the time period between 1947 and 1995.

Ray Smith Papers

Included in the 2016 accrual are audio cassettes documenting Ray Smith’s appearances on radio shows, readings that he did for radio and live audiences and radio performances of his works. Radio shows that Smith appeared on include CBC’s Morningside, Homerun, State of the Arts, Art Talks, Aircraft and Saturday Spotlight. Works that he read include “Lord Nelson Tavern,” “The Man who Loved Jane Austen,” “The Poetry of the Dram,” “A Night at the Opera” and “A Matter of Detail.” Also included are recordings of CBC Stage performances of “Lord Nelson’s Tavern” and “Eden’s Next to Last Dreamer.” Most of the audio cassettes contain multiple appearances, readings and/or performances. Titles and descriptions of cassette contents are taken directly from the cassette labels and cassettes have been arranged in chronological order.
