Nouwen gave a presentation, led a workshop, and was the homilist at a mass. Nouwen was accompanied to the event by Carl MacMillan. Includes a schedule, questions for Nouwen regarding arrangements for the event, and Nouwen's response to those questions. Also includes Nouwen's handwritten notes for the event entitled "Power, Powerlessness, Power."

Chicago Sunday Evening Club - October 26, 1993

Includes "The Chicago Sunday Evening Club 1992 Annual Report" and three copies of the speakers information package. Also includes travel itinerary, plane tickets, a copy of a cheque from the Chicago Sunday Evening Club, and a letter from Nouwen to David Hardin regarding expenses. The Chicago Sunday Evening Club was also known as 30 Good Minutes.

Also includes program and newsletter from Katholieke Jongerendag '93 and details for Nouwen's appearance on NCRV's show. The majority of the material is in Dutch. Includes a typescript with illustrations of a participant notes from the retreat. Also includes Nouwen's handwritten notes from a foreword to a book by Jean Vanier.

Nouwen attended the event with Sue Mosteller, Wendy Lywood, and Thelus George. Includes travel itinerary and expenses, schedules, programs, and Episcopalian reference material, some articles have been highlighted by Nouwen. Also includes Nouwen's handwritten notes for his talk on the theme of "Community."

Nouwen visited with Malcolm Street and Bob Buford, performed the Sunday service at the First Presbyterian Church and attended the workshop "Caring, Connecting, Contributing: A Spiritual Journey." Includes the workshop agenda and evaluation form, reference material on aging, and the First Presbyterian church bulletin. Also includes a letter from Wayne Miller requesting to see Nouwen if he is in the southwest. It is uncertain whether they did meet.

Nouwen spoke on the topic of Christian anthropology, "The Misery and Grandeur of Humanity." While in New York City Nouwen also gave a sermon and a talk at St. James Church. The talk was entitled "Holy Week as Spiritual Journey." Includes brochures, bulletin and information sheets. Also includes the March 1995 issue of Contactblad Mertonvrienden (Dutch).

Yale Divinity School - Keynote Address - March 30, 31, 1995

File consists of correspondence, from Margaret Farley, and other material regarding Nouwen's participation as the keynote speaker for a symposium on "Mental Retardation: Ethical, Theological, and Pastoral Issues" at Yale Divinity School, New Haven, Connecticut. The symposium was sponsored by the Yale Divinity School in conjunction with the 1995 World Special Olympics. Nouwen's address was entitled "The Witness of Persons with Mental Retardation." Nouwen was accompanied to the event by Joe Vorstermans and Bill Van Buren. Includes list of speakers, schedule, name tag, meal tickets and campus and building maps.
