Collection of 190 pieces of vellum in Greek and Latin illustrating the history and development of handwriting from the 4th century until the end of the Middle Ages. Items 1-21 (which are Coptic in origin) illustrate the development of uncial writing from the beginning up to its decline in Egypt in the 9th century. All leaves, with the exception of items 106 and 170 are mounted; items 62-90 and 113-169 are bound volumes.

This collection of Young-Bruehl’s papers contains a wide variety of material ranging from juvenilia, high school, and university student work, to drafts, correspondence, and publicity material surrounding all of her major publications. It also includes a significant amount of correspondence over the span of her life, both personal and professional, along with materials relating to her teaching, academic work, and her psychoanalytic practice.

Collection contains personal and professional papers pertaining to Robertson Davies. This includes material relating to Davies’ early life, including writing and acting as a student at Upper Canada College (1929-1932), his studies at Baillol College at Oxford (1935-1938), and participation in theatrical performances in Kingston, Oxford, the Old Vic Theatre, Peterborough and the Stratford Festival (1934-1960). The papers contain a small amount of material related to Davies’ career as a journalist at Saturday Night magazine and the Peterborough Examiner. These papers contain extensive material on the novels, books and writing of Davies. This includes drafts, proofs, correspondence, reviews, clippings and any stage adaptations of his novels from The Salterton Trilogy (Tempest-Tost, Leaven of Malice and A Mixture of Frailties), The Deptford Trilogy (Fifth Business, The Manticore and World of Wonders), The Cornish Trilogy (The Rebel Angels, What’s Bred in the Bone and The Lyre of Orpheus) and the incomplete Toronto Trilogy (Murther and Walking Spirits and The Cunning Man). Also included are a complete set of original drafts and woodcuts for the Penguin edition covers of Davies’ novels, which were designed by the American printmaker Bascove. Limited material related to his essays, short stories and non-fiction publications, notably including Shakespeare’s Boy Actors, A Voice from the Attic, High Spirits and his books of fictional essays by Samuel Marchbanks are a part of the papers. Additionally, the collection includes considerable records relating to Davies’ contributions to anthologies as well as professional writing in academic journals, newspapers and magazines. These papers encompass Davies’ career as a playwright, including material related to twenty-two original works including drafts, scripts, photographs, posters, playbills and clippings, as well as the complete papers relating to the production of The Golden Ass which was staged after Davies’ death. The collection contains a large sampling of correspondence of both a professional and personal nature spanning from 1934 to his death in 1995. Also included in the collection is material related to the professional career of Davies’ as a well-known Canadian writer, this includes photographs and press clippings as well as speeches and commentaries made by Davies and his awards. Records also pertain to academic and trade writing on Davies and his work, most notably a complete set of interviews conducted with family, friends, colleagues and acquaintances by Val Ross during the course of her writing Robertson Davies: A Portrait in Mosaic (2009). Papers also relate to the eighteen years Davies spent as the Master of Massey College beginning in 1963. Including articles on the founding of Massey College, the death of Vincent Massey, newsletters, teaching material and invitations and programmes for the annual Christmas Gaudy, printed on the Massey College Press. Also included is a small amount of personal records including travel records, calendars, real estate and list of personal effects. Finally, the collection contains a series dedicated to the collecting practices of Dr. Rick Davis, who collected and assembled these papers. This includes Davis’ invoices and notes for his Davies material, as well as correspondence including exchanges with Robertson Davies, Moira Whalon, Brenda Davies and Jennifer Surridge.

Collection consists of 34 promissory freight notes for merchandise and peltries shipped aboard the King’s Armed Vessels between British Garrisons on Lake Ontario, Lake Erie and Lake Huron (1778-1787). This series includes thirty holograph notes and four printed forms with holograph additions. The printed form are likely produced by William Brown, Quebec’s first printer. Collection also contains 12 manuscript documents and letters on the hardships experienced by fur traders and merchants in their attempts to conduct business in the Great Lakes region (1783-1793). These documents primarily illustrate the experiences of three prominent fur traders: Philippe-Francois de Rastel de Rocheblave, James Ellice and Toussaint Pothier.

This first accession of Kildare Dobbs’s papers contains drafts of his published works (Running to Paradise, The Great Fur Opera, Anatolian Suite: Travels and Discursions in Turkey, The Eleventh Hour: Poems for the Third Millennium, Casablanca: The Poem, Running the Rapids: A Writer’s Life, Cassanova in Venice: A Raunchy Rhyme, Away From Home: Canadian Writers in Exotic Places); other writing drafts, including writing for newspapers, magazines, his contributions to CBC radio programs “Ideas” and “Anthology”; his travel files pertaining to all of the places he visited (and wrote about) around the world; a significant amount of correspondence (both physical and digital correspondence); personal files and documents relating to his family’s history; professional files; photographs; cut-outs and print-outs of published articles; notebooks and journals; audiovisual and digital materials; and other files relating to the life and work of Kildare Dobbs.

Included are audio cassettes and typed summaries of interviews conducted by Coleman Romalis with members of Canada’s Jewish community in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal. Individuals interviewed by Romalis include Ben Shek, Becky Lapedes, Morris Biderman, Jack Cowan, Sam Lipshitz, Manya Lipshitz, Ben Kayfetz, Polly Weinstein, Henry Weinstein, Dave Ship and Itche Goldberg. Various highlighted items in his collection include many interesting photographs documenting the May Day Rallies of 1933-4 in Hamilton, Ontario-suggesting that he had an active role in organizing these demonstrations. There are also a number of newspaper clippings (primarily from The Daily Colonist (Victoria, B.C.), documenting such issues as communism, the war in Vietnam, Cyprus, various actions taken by the Canadian Government, and celebrities such as Marilyn Munroe and Princess Diana. A series of postcards document a trip taken by Sam Lawrence across Europe in 1936. Also featured is a collection of photographs of Lenin from 1897-1917 from a book of photographs entitled “Lenin” edited by Vladimir Il’ich and a collection of postcards documenting the Third Congress of Komintern in Russia, 1919. Lastly, there are two typescript books dedicated to Morisse and written by Georgoula Beikos entitled “The Greece That Fights: A Collection of Articles in Russian”, and a book of poems written by political prisoners on the Cypriot island of Gioura after the Greek civil war from 1945-1949.

The collection consists of manuscript and mimeographed materials relating to the history of labour and socialist movements in Ontario and Canada, with special emphasis on the Ontario section of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF). It consists chiefly of the personal files of individual CCF party members and others active in the socialist and labour movements in Ontario. Among those individuals include: James McArthur Conner, William Crocker, William Dennison, Alice Loeb and Desmond Morton, among others. Also included are the records of Arthur Mould, a labour leader and president of the Ontario section of the Canadian Labour Party.

In particular, it deals with Patrick McGahern Books in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, also known as both The Book Boutique and Patrick and Liam McGahern Books. The collection contains business records,financial records, book orders, correspondence, memorabilia, a card catalogue, and bookseller’s catalogue proofs, masters, and prints related to the operation of Patrick McGahern Books.It also contains a moderate collection of nineteenth and twentieth-century bookseller’s catalogues either collected or used by Patrick and Liam McGahern.

Collection of papers from Gerry Bennett (1921-1999), ornithologist and author. He wrote and published the journal Birdfinding in Canada (1981-1989) and at least three books on birdwatching and birdwatchers. The papers consist of: GB's typed journals recording his bird sightings and other observations of natural history from the 1950s to 1998; his correspondence with naturalists from the late 1970s to 1990s; his research notes and files on ornithological topics, including bird records and lists for a variety of locations, and the newsletters from a number of ornithological organizations; drafts and typescripts of some of his writings.

A collection of over 1000 examples of gay, male fiction, including books by prominent gay authors and works dealing with male homosexuality. Some non-fiction books are included in the collection. The books are in mass-market paperback editions, issued mostly by US publishers, with a few Canadian imprints, and were published between 1933 and 1995. Authors represented include John Rechy, Christopher Isherwood, Gore Vidal, James Baldwin, James Purdy, William S. Burroughs, Richard Amory, Carl Corley, Aaron Travis, Jay Greene, Phil Andros, Jack Evans, Clay Caldwell, and Paul Gronowski. Series represented in the collection include Pleasure Readers, Greenleaf Classics, HIS69, Rough Trade, Frenchy's Gay Line, Badboy, Blueboy Library, and Gay Parisian Press. Cover art is often unsigned, but includes work by Carl Corley, Harry Schaare, Frank Kelly Freas, and Tom of Finland.

Papers consist of “birthday books”- albums created by Anna Pachner Klement for her grandson, Tomaš (Tomi), beginning at age two, when he was diagnosed with Sydenham’s chorea. Albums depict stories of a young boy and his adoring grandmother and the life of one Jewish family during the 1930’s. Two years after Tomi’s birth, Adolf Hitler came to power, and the albums begin to record the changing attitude towards Jews in Czechoslovakia. The last album was written in 1940 and in it Mrs. Klement describes how they are forbidden to go to the theatre or the movies. Also included in the family papers are photo albums, photographs, Anna Klement’s diaries, poems by Anna Klement, family papers including obituaries, marriage certificates, etc., and Olga Klement’s diaries as well as her art work, autobiography, correspondence, notebooks and betacam tapes.

Collection consists primarily of material related to the British writer and poet Kenneth Hopkins. It includes correspondence Hopkins wrote in the 1960s to Franklin Gilliam, who at the time was proprietor of the Brick Row Book Shop, as well as a number of original Hopkins manuscripts from the late 1920s and early 1930s.

Collection of lecture notes and miscellaneous material relating to the philosophy of Sankara, a seventh century Hindu philospher. The lectures were delivered by Miss B.S.A. de Branconiere, also identified as 'Guru Sahasrara Satchitananda,' to the student members of the Oriental Literature Society of California. She is described as "an accredited Messenger from the Sankaracharya School of Philosophy, France." The collection also contains an Esoteric Dictionary which was compiled by Mary Elizabeth Gilmore in the mid-1950s. The Dictionary contains definitions of philosophical and literary terms drawn from the lectures. It appears Gilmore gathered and arranged the lectures in their present form sometime in the mid-1930s.
